Xyr stamps his claws, hoping to rid himself of the rats swarming up his feet, but his attention is focused mostly on the big rats. Once again his blades flick out, the weapon humming with joy.
Mechanics:
Move: - Action: vs Giant Rat, Attack: 22 Damage: 7 Bonus: vs Giant Rat, Attack: 8 Damage: 3 If applicable: Sneak Attack damage: 2
The first swing misses, but as Xyr deftly twirls it around to take another shot, the rat rears back on its hind legs, and one of the blades slices cleanly through its midsection. The rat falls back as its entrails spill into the sewer.
Brask, you're up! One giant rat and two swarms are left, all looking very healthy.
Brask brings his maul round in a wide arc, ignoring the swarms and focusing on the remaining giant rat, his weapon coming down upon it with a hard smack:
The final giant rat is crushed under the weight of Brask's maul, its skull and spine flattened to the sewer floor. Pieces of bone fly off, plinking off the walls. The swarms of rats carry on, ignorant of what's happened to their larger counterparts.
One swarm begins climbing up Xyr again, snapping again at his legs and waist. Attack: 19 Damage: 9
The other swarm continues gnawing at Brask. Attack: 22 Damage: 7 + 5

Xyr swarm: 2
Brask swarm: 5
A few of the rats surrounding Xyr suddenly begin to convulse, wriggling around until they freeze, falling to the ground dead. Xyr still seems overwhelmed though, and is looking seriously injured.
Sam runs forward and swings his shortsword at the growing pile of rats surrounding Xyr. It's a bit close for comfort - Xyr's eyes grow wide as he leans back - but the blade continues down past him and into the wriggling mass of hair and teeth. Attack: 13 Damage: 8 He hacks through quite a few of the rats, and the swarm is noticeably lessened - but there are still about half of the rats remaining.

Xyr squawks again loudly, feeling countless stings and tears in his legs. With furious kicks and one downward swipe he frees himself from the swarming mass, retreating to a safe distance, legs almost buckling underneath him as he tries to ignore the pain.

As Xyr retreats, his kicks and slashes take out quite a few of the vermin. A final rat leaps forward to chase him, but is split mid-air by the Aarakocra's blade. Xyr staggers back away from the action as the final swarm continues to gather on and around Brask.

Brask takes a moment to gather his strength (Second Wind to recover 11 HP), then he reverses his grip on his maul, and tries unsuccessfully to use it to scrape the remaining rats off his body:
Brask's attempt at scraping the rats off ends with the rats simply climbing up and over the maul to get back onto his body. They continue to gather, engulfing the minotaur and snapping at his flesh to no avail. Brask's thick hide continues to provide protection.

Not wanting to close the distance, Xyr pulls out a dagger, sending it skittering across the floor, hoping to impale a few rats as it goes by Brask's feet.
Mechanics:
Turn: Move: Move into 20ft range Action: Dagger vs Swarm: 19 Damage: 6 + 2 Bonus: -
OOC: Slow down, haha. The rat swarm has an armor class of 10 and had 13 more HP. They're just rats, after all. :)
Brask catches his breath as the final rats are either crushed into pulp or scurry away into the darkness of the sewer. Everyone looks around for a moment, checking on one another. "Not sure what you have up your sleeve, Burik, but I have two of these," Sam holds out two healing potions. "Not eager to use them up this early on, but our feathered friend isn't looking so good."
"Another reason why I prefer rooftops." Xyr says angrily in between winces as he checks his legs. That swarm had done some real damage, to the point where he could barely stay on his feet, blood pooling with the murky damp of the sewer.
Blech, says Brask, scraping away rat remains from his maul and picking some of the larger chunks of flesh from his fur. So, what now? There's someone down here whose fault it is I'm covered in rat bits, and I'd like to have a word with 'em.

Burik will try and pull the rats off of him, smashing them with his hammer once they're clear. 23 : 5
Sam steps up next to Burik and starts cutting at the rats he's pulled off of Brask. Attack: 15 Damage: 9
It looks like about half of the swarm is snuffed out by Burik and Sam, but the other half is still snapping away at Brask.

Doink. The maul hits Brask's own armour instead of the rats, and bounces off harmlessly.
