You creep forward tiptoeing around the cracks of each panel on the floor. At first you continue to hear the chain click until it snaps into place and stops. Matteo sweat over his brow drips into his eyes, blurring his vision as he accidentally steps on a trigger point. In the past moment Petmorn is able to pull him just out of the way for the bolt to bounce of the shield. You begin to hear the clicking noise once more. But you manage to go through this area of the tunnel unharmed.
Everyone walks along the path for another hour or so as the descent continues downward when suddenly the floor gives way to a pit trap that went unnoticed. After falling 20 feet or so and taking 5 fall damage. you land in a pit of tar; It’s thick, warm, and viscous. As it splashed on your face and in your mouth you dare not think what it’s made of as the smell is horrendous. . every time you move you here a “thrup” as it slurps around the air bubbles and is very, very hard to move. The walls look slick with grease and smooth all 20 feet to the top.
Jengamyr would like to attempt to use the grappling hook and rope to create an escape route, all while cursing loudly about the smelly brownie batter he has now found himself in
Petmorn is able to toss the hook up and catch into the ground and pull himself while helping everyone out. You brush yourselves off and continue down the path. You eventually see light from the distance. Two torches on either side of the wall. A door black, not reflecting any light is closed.
Matteo thanks Petmorn as they walk; You seem to be making a habit of pulling me out of trouble, old man. Don't worry, I'll return the favour when needed.
Once out of the pit, Drax would look down at himself covered in tar. "Thank you for helping me out..." He would say with a sigh as he goes to work cleaning the tar from his body, casting prestidigitation over and over on himself. Once he was spotless, he would reluctantly clean the others.. but only if asked.
Once at the door, Drax would move slowly and inspect it for traps. "I have started to become hesitant of this place.. " He would say as he leaned in close and examined the door and its surroundings.
On the door seem to be some sort of glyphs, but nothing radiating a magical presence. Nothing to indicate that the door is trapped. The door is not locked. The torches seem to be from a magical source and not real flame, probably how they are still lit at this point.
Jengamyr looks around at his companions, and says, "well, we didn't walk this far just to stare at a door, be ready." He waits 5 seconds and then turns the doorknob and opens the door.
Jengamyr opens the door to find a large chamber of stone walls. Braziers in the four corners but unlit. Another door stands in the far side about 50 feet away. In the middle is a glowing portal seemingly iced over as the energy swirls around underneath. Is is about 20 foot diameter in the center of the floor.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
A portal, exclaims Matteo trying to contain his excitement. He steps into the room and up to within ten feet of the portal. Is this how our Lord's aspect is being held? Or is it... something else?
He inspects the setup as best he can; his knowledge of the arcane is limited but his religious studies were extensive - is there any religious significance to anything he's seeing? Religion20 (Apparently not)
Drax would slowly move around the room, lighting the torches with a point of his finger through [Tooltip Not Found]. "Well this is interesting indeed.." Drax would say with still disguised as the old dwarven cleric.
Despite not recognizing the origins or point of the portal. One of you recalls reading about a portal to the abyss that Cadderly Bonaduce created as part of the temple. It looks to be in some sort of stasis at the moment.

Drax would reach forward and touch the flame to see if it is hot.
The fire is putting out heat as much as any other torch would.
