Sildar seems torn about his involvement in finding Gundren, probably feeling guilty about the notion of perhaps not joining you."I can at least make sure Gundren's business is put on hold here for a bit and his supplies aren't sold off to others. We also owe you all your pay. I'll see what I can do about that before you leave in the morning. I'm hoping if I ask around I can learn more about what is going on here and maybe find another lead about where Gudren could be if your map doesn't pan out. Something doesn't seem right about all of this. Goblins, bugbears, this Redbrand gang, and a dragon? I'm not sure what to make of it all, yet. Perhaps if I stay I can find out more about where Nundro and Tharden are as well."Sildar pauses and looks at all of you, sighing before he continues. "Thank you all, for saving me and for caring enough to look for Gundren. Neither of us would ever have been seen again without you. You could have just called your business complete by getting here."
(OOC I'm probably all set with any evening happenings unless any of you have more you'd like to do, discuss with Sildar, etc. We can advance to anything happening overnight and morning activities if everyone is ready.)
"I think Arvel brings up a good point. I would offer the same." Fae would nod to both Arvel for the recommendation and to Sildar. "Information is valuable Sildar, and I trust you may be able to find out more." She would yawn, definitely feeling the exhaustion from the long day. There was a lot to think about. "But I believe this is where I must retire for the night." Fae would bow her head to her comrades and take her leave to her room for the night.
'I concur, the halflings more than carried their weight - and waited with the wagons while we came to rescue you. I'd give a portion of my share to them as a bonus.'

Tarja thanks Sidar and wishes him luck, after finishing up her bites of dinner.
Take care of yourself, and stay away from the Sleeping Giant. We'll be back, with Gundren.
She heads up to her room, opens the window to feel the air, and takes the form of a small black cat. She climbs onto the roof, makes herself comfortable, and spends a half an hour watching the sky, listening to the wind, and feeling the air. It's not quite as relaxing as communing with the trees, but it'll do. She will need more strength and skill in the days to come, and she hopes nature will respond to her call.
Finally, she heads back to her room, closes the window, and falls asleep.
I suppose in case it matters, Stealth 23 perception 17 for cat-time, but I'm not looking for anything in particular and not expecting to need to hide from anyone, so it probably shouldn't.
Otherwise - heck yeah level up time!!!!
And we can re-involve Ethan in the action again come morning!
The group manages to make Sildar smile a bit regarding their comments about Finnan and Farnin getting paid. "Ha, don't worry about those two. If they don't get a fair cut all of Faerun will hear about it! I'll take care of it, thanks."
The evening passes without incident and the sun begins to rise over a quiet Phandalin the next morning...
OOC
Ok at this point everyone should wrap up their level up in one fashion or another, not that you have to role play or share your new skills until you use them if you don't wish to.
Using sunrise as point of reference, is anyone getting up particularly early for anything? Anyone sleeping in particularly late? If so that's cool, just let us know. If not we can assume you all find yourselves in the Stonhill Inn dining room as the first rays of sun pour through the windows.
Elra wakes up with the sun, quiet and looking around the room like she's not quite sure where she is. Then she remembered, with a mix of excitement and a little bit of despair. Pulling out her journal, she jots down everything she can remember, putting emphasis on the feelings that were evoked before getting ready for the day and going downstairs for some breakfast.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Fae would wake up with a gasp and in a cold sweat. She'd sit up, frantically grabbing for her journal and pen to begin jotting down notes. After her notes, she'd sketch. Fae would finish three sketches before her stomach and mind would start to protest. She could feel a bit of a headache coming on.
Fae would gather all her supplies and head downstairs. She'd order breakfast and some tea before finding herself a seat in a cozy corner to review her spellbook and notes.
Portent for the day: 4 and 17
((OOC waiting to see if any one else it up and around in the AM. If nothing until afternoon, Fae would head out for a stroll/shopping.))
As the suns rays enter his window, Ethan notices the rest of the world for the first time, since beginning his work the night before. Ethan stretches his arms above his head, a broad smile of satisfaction crossing his face.
Ethan puts away his various tools, that are strewn around him, and then takes out his pocket-watch-like device. Turning some nob, Ethan then presses his thumb to the device causing it to flare with magic before it opens.
Pulling out a gel-like disc from within, Ethan places it down on his armour sitting before him. The small disc absorbs into the armour, causing the armour to become clean, about 1ft in diameter, around where the disc touched the armour. Ethanproceeds to repeat this over and over, cleaning his armour, and then his clothes, and still other devices that he has been working on.
Ethan then gets all his equipment re-equipped, donning his armour and gauntlet along with various other devices.
With another broad smile, Ethan heads downstairs. Upon seeing the others Ethan cant help himself.
"I've done it! I finally finished my new design! The techniques I have developed could revolutionise the school of artifice!"
Ethan's smiles is so broad it doesn't look like it could go any further.
Ethan walks up to Elra and Fae,
"I mean, I haven't tested it in the field yet, but that's just for error checking and refinement really. But it works!"
Ethan turns his gauntlet, to show a new slot in the top, between where the shield comes out, on the front, and where the hatch opens for the compressed space storage, on the inside.
The slot is about an inch wide and goes the length of the gauntlet, almost a foot long. There is a cover in place in the slot and a cut stone at the end of the slot near the hand.
Ethan places his finger on the cut stone, and there is a flash of magic. The cover in the slot retracts, revealing access to the compressed space within. A moment later a disc pops up out of the slot. Ethan pulls it out of the slot revealing the disc to be about 1 inch thick and about 1ft in diameter.
You can think of it, kind of like an old movie reel case, being ejected from a toaster.
The disc is dark gunmetal grey, and is covered on every surface with golden inlay tracing out pathways and sigils.
Ethan tosses the disc into the air next to him, and the disc flares with magic.
Before the disc can even start to fall, the magic running through it, starts to construct magical matter in the form of 4 spider-like legs from the bottom of the disc. The contraption lands on its legs, as more magical matter is produced on top, forming a pivoting turret, with a long boxy protrusion sticking out.
The Arcane Turret, stand beside Ethan, it is all gleaming and glossy, black and white surfaces, except for what can be seen of the dark grey disc at its core. All of the black surfaces are covered in golden inlay with pathways and sigils visible everywhere. The white surfaces are completely clean, in fact the whole contraption looks more clean and perfect than most would be used to seeing.
I'm going to give some images to try and describe what the Arcane Turret looks like:
The legs of the turret are like these ones. The segmented parts are black, and the ends are white. The four legs come out of the bottom of the disc.
The turret top, is kind of a combination of these three turrets. The barrel is kind of like a combination of image 1 and 3, more right angels like 1, but cut of on the corners like 3. The barrel is housed in a housing kind of like a combination of image 2 and 3. The housing is white and the barrel is black. the barrel is completely solid, not hollow like a normal gun.
The housing rotates horizontally on the disc, and the barrel can rotate vertically within the housing.
The inlaid golden pathways and sigils, kind of look like circuit board design, but the components are replaced with sigils instead.
The Arcane Turret looks perfect in a way that could only exist if it was created with mathematical perfection, which it was. No hands where used to create its surfaces, so it is perfect and glossy and shiny. No finger prints, no dust, no imperfections.
Ethan takes out the device he used yesterday to watch Elra use her magic. He clips it to his ear and looks at the turret. The turret rotates to point at Ethan, then rotates to point at Elra and then Fae.
"I can control it with this."
Ethan taps the device clipped to his ear.
"Its not the fastest, or the most powerful, but that's not what makes it so special."
Ethan directs the turret to walk around the inn, it appears about half as fast as any of the team.
"What really makes this design special, is the way its created."
"The producer of the disc, is inside the gauntlet, that's the part I made by hand."
"First it creates the magical matter in the form of the disc. Then comes the special bit. The disc is then infused with magical control circuits, but not just normal circuits."
"These circuits themselves are designed to produce more magical matter, and then infuse that with more control circuits."
"So the gauntlet device creates the disc, and the disc creates the legs and the payload, and all of it is functional, capable of mobility and taking action."
"A design, capable of creating another design, capable of creating another design."
"The possibilities! Once I have tested it thoroughly, and perfected the design, and then written down all of the details, in my thesis, I can return to Lantan to share my work."
Ethan is beaming, his smile stretched to it limits.
"I call it the Multipurpose Combat Platform, or MCP for short."
"It is in the Force Ballista mode right now. But it is also capable of being created in a Flamethrower mode, and a Defender mode, as well. The advantage of a programmed construction, you just change the flow of the circuits, and bam, new output."
Ethan looks between his friends, hoping they will be impressed.

Perception roll for Zeke early morning patrol
18
As the party makes their way downstairs they find Zeke waiting in his customary spot against the wall with a view of the entire tavern. He’s already been up and walked the perimeter - looking for any signs of nocturnal visitors. While he always looks on edge, there’s a bit of something more to his tension today. Almost as if he is expecting trouble of some sort.
As Ethan joins the group and begins his complicated descriptions of his arcane toys, Zeke would smile softly, glad that his friend was so happy. But when the disk sprouted spider-like legs he would visibly start and reach for his blade before seeing that Ethan had complete control of the construct.
Fae would look up from her journal, smiling from the return of Ethan's exuberance. "That's brilliant Ethan!" She'd try to match his excitement, but definitely doesn't think she can. As he walked around to show off the controls, the wizard would take a moment to sketch out the scene in font of her. Ethan and his new turret.
After her sketch, Fae would tuck her book and quill away. She'd look to Arvel, returning the same look of sympathy. "Is your own identity that bothersome to you?"
She'd look to Arvel, returning the same look of sympathy. "Is your own identity that bothersome to you?"
"It's just easier to be someone else, you know? Maxie'd have these yokels eating out of his hand and waiving his tab. But thanks to that ludicrous public display last night my profile is too high to suddenly switch faces. Too many people have seen my face and have a wonderfully specific memory to go along with it."
Fae would sit back to reflect on Arvel's words. Although she does not know what it's like to physically wear someone elses identity, she did connect with his first sentence. "Well, I imagine Phandalin is not your last stop, nor your only opportunity." She'd wink to try and cheer him up. "Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I do hope to pick up some spell components and such on our way out of town."

Tarja wakes refreshed, ready to go. She heads downstairs to the common room, moving quietly and thinking of the dark forest ahead.
Something of the forest visited her in her dreams, a wind or a whisper, the connection that she was hoping for.
Question - according to the directions we have, about how far is the journey we're about to take? An hour? A day? A week?
Ethan notices Arvel come down, his expression and demeanour, introspective and moody.
Ethan walks his Arcane Turret over to Arvel, and has it do a little bob and dance in front of him.
"What's the matter Arvel?"
Ethan walks over to see what's wrong with his friend.
"You're normally more cheerful, well, except when you talk about your lady. Is it something to do with your fairy lady?"

Seeing his friend's earnestness, Arvel drops any pretense.
"This town is ripe for a person like Maxie. But, thanks to the Lady's intervention, I have no choice but to..."
Here he winces and almost seems sick.
"...be myself."
DCI: 3319125026
"Oh? Were you not being yourself before?"
Ethan thinks for a moment,
"So you don't get to pretend to be someone else? That doesn't sound as fun, sorry about that."
"Is your fairy lady against fun and pranks? She seams a little, ah, boring?"
"I mean its not like you were hurting anybody, right? Just a bit of fun, like the gnomes used to do all the time, back on Lantan."
Ethan thinks back,
"They used to do all kinds of illusion tricks, it was great fun."
Ethan looks back at Arvel with sympathy.
"Well, I hope you feel better."
Ethan turns back to his Arcane Turret, going back to checking it over, testing its movement, getting it to climb a wall and the like.
