“I understand better now...” Shae would start honestly. “Kam will still transition to a new chapter... but I’ll be okay.” She’d offer a soft smile. Should Berrus be curious and ask more about Kam, Shae would share what she found out based on her commune with him.
Shae didn’t realize she had needed a hug from her Protector until he gave her one. She’d gently lean into the embrace, returning it “It is...” Her voice was quiet. “But, it’s nothing like I had feared.” A soft awkward chuckle would leave her lips, knowing how much she jumps to the worst case scenario almost every time. “I take an incredible amount of comfort in that.” The warlock even had a small smile tugging at her lips.
Her eyes would look up towards the sky, “The queen and I agree: The menace of the undead in Chult must be ended." Shae would repeat some of Kam’s final words under her breath. If there was one thing she could try to do for Kam...
"You know, it's very lovely and all," Maxine unceremoniously interrupted the - admittedly - very important and (no less "very") private conversation, "and I have the greatest admiration for your patron, but from what I heard so far, he is sending you on a fool's errand. "Getting rid of undead" here is the same as "getting rid of all mosquitoes" - they are sort of part of the system." Maxine flopped down on the deck on the other side of Shae. "Did he even tell you where to begin? Or how do you suppose to manage when he is gone completely? And you, Berrus," she bent to look at the dwarf accusatory, "stop encouraging her. I do understand the wish to move around, study, do something, but does it have to be "kill all the evil in the world"?" She raised her hand in protesting gesture not letting anyone to replay. "What I mean is - may be think a bit smaller? At least for a while? Like that hidden city back in the jungle. You wanted to see it, right? Check out the Port, talk to people, learn about the place. All that "hurry up and rid the world of Big Bad Evil" does not sound very ... rational, but very-very unhealthy, if you know what I mean. Or may be it's just me."
She looked around and added with a sudden satisfaction: "You know, it is a good spot to watch the water. Good catch, Berrus!"
"Dinna necessarily say all. But where she goes i go. But smaller be bes since we dinna hae any army tah call on." He grins.."Unless ye ken make us all dragons"
"But aye this do be a good spot" he reaches behind Shae and gives Maxine a rub on her back....pulling Shae tighter into the embrace in the process
"Just say a word!" Maxine proudly granted Berrus a vial. "Last batch. Extra strong - to the best of dwarven traditions!" "May be not exactly a dragon, but as close as alchemy can get you." But then she become serious again "I do believe you would die for each other, it's even reassuring somewhat. Just do not want you both to die at all."
Shae would blink. With eyes a little wide, she'd follow Maxine's as she'd listen to every word. Shae would open her mouth as if considering to say something, but would eventually close it, knowing Maxine was going to continue her thoughts regardless. And the longer she went on, the more the warlock would blink. Though, a small smile had been growing wider on her lips since the moment Maxine 'interrupted'. Her grin didn't really become evident until Maxine completed her rational lecturing and questioning. Then her eyes would bounce from her, to Berrus and back as they continued on without missing a beat.
Shae would tilt her head back slightly and she'd begin to laugh. It was genuine joyful laughter. If it wasn't multiple voices in her head trying to guide her, she literally had two little consciouses on either side of her making sure she was on a good path. And that image tickled her to tears. Shae felt incredibly lucky to be surrounded by individuals who cared for her well being, and did it in their own unique way. Her heart swelled with appreciation for them. She'd dab tears from the corner of her eyes.
Although she'd feel Berrus tug her towards him, she'd keep her hips there but would lean forward to Maxine, taking her face in her hands. "What would I do without you Maxine?" She'd let out an awkward chuckle but have a genuine smile before pulling her into a hug. Shae always appreciated Maxine's 'tough love', logically laying out or sorting through things. She'd make sense of things and put them into perspective, even when Shae would know it all along. It was always the reminder she needed. It wasn't as if Shae was planning on finding the biggest baddie she could find right away. It had simply been a passing thought to maybe connect those small steps. "Thank you." She'd say softly, finally letting her go. Shae adored Maxine and the companionship she shared. I'd die for you too...
Overhearing a bit of the discussion, the Professor comes over and comments, "Perhaps if we can recover items like that ruby dagger, we can slow the spread of undead, though I agree that starting small and trying to help the innocents survive the undead even as we seek to reduce their number seems reasonable--much like the mosquito analogy, Maxine. I would certainly be willing to lend my talents to such an endeavor, once we get the crew to a safe port and can mount a proper expedition."

Shae would smile further as the Professor would join them. "I think we can all agree to start small." Shae would let out a little chuckle. "And your skills would be invaluable." She'd give him an encouraging nod.
Shae would then look over her shoulder to flag Fang over as well. Should he be preoccupied, she'd pull a treat out of her pocket to entice Mushu. The warlock would then bribe Mushu to fetch Fang so the whole gang would be together for discussions.
Fang had been close enough to hear the conversation grow in scope since its beginning, his favorite fishing spot on the boat being not far away. Given that he still doesn’t understand much about the ways of the soft skins and the seemingly private nature of the conversation, Fang had continued to focus on his fishing. Seeing Shae motion for him to come near, approaches and says simply, “Yes?” And waits for a response.
Shae would offer Fang a smile on his approach. “We’d like to hear your thoughts and input too.” And she hoped he would join them. They were all a team, and everyone deserved to be part of the conversation. Everyone’s opinion mattered. She’d await for his response before moving her attention back out to the water.
Before she’d forget, Shae would look to Berrus beside her. She’d reach a hand to the far side of his face as she’d lean in to press her lips against his cheek facing her. “Thank you.” She’d relax her posture and rest against him. “It is a great spot to watch the water.” Shae would then lay her head down. Her smile would pull further at her lips as her eyes would glance around at the party. She was touched that Berrus’ suggestion to sit down for a bit lead to everyone gathering together, as a team. Shae savoured her time with them, watching the water.
