Miss Fygg looks to Zack. "Well, the mayor doesn't really fancy company." She explains. "The mayor believes that his time is best put into the town. He never talks about personal things, or any of the small talk you might do with a friend of neighbour. It is really a shame, he's proverbially shackled himself to his role." She sighs. "Well, if a lovely cup of herbal drink can bring even the slightest smile to his face, then I'll keep making them until I get the perfect brew." She states. "I should take him his drink before it cools." With that, she makes to the double doors and knocks. "Mr. Mayor? I have brought you some refreshments." She calls before entering.
Ankor was already outside, his decision made on going to the chapel. as he waits for the rest of the group to gather outside, he takes a look around to see if there is anyone out and about doing their normal routines.
Deciding to follow Ankor, the group finds themselves following the path they did the earlier. The mists are still thick above the town, with them being less obscuring on the streets and near the lanterns that line them. Whilst wandering, there are signs of other villagers on other streets continuing their work, though they are difficult to make out from that distance.
Upon arriving at the chapel, it is how it looked before. The little font of holy water is still filled, and the doors are shut at this moment. The empty field beside the chapel is still devoid of anything, but there are lanterns that are periodically spread out enough to allow for people to see that patch of land. There is also the glimmer of light coming from beyond the thick glass window, but it is difficult to see what is through them.
Ankor says to the rest of the group before entering the chapel "if you wish to spread out and seek out the hunter we can meet up later back in the inn, I may be awhile here."

"That would be unwise, at least for the moment. Until we have spoken to the scholar, hunter, or head priest, and received either lanterns or clearer indicators in regards to anticipating Mist Beast attacks, we should remain together for the time being. That way, in the case of an emergency, we may best defend each other." Tefkae states, finally breaking an uncharacteristic silence about her.
As Mr. Pepper alights upon the rooftop of the church, Tefkae steps up to the door and raps on them hard until someone comes from inside, or stops her.

Mr. Pepper lands on the roof of the chapel. It appears to be unoccupied, no cats can be seen from this rooftop, so shouldn't have any issues about territory squabbling with the local felines.
RAT-A-TAT-TAT!
The door shakes slightly from the strong knocking. There is silence for a moment. There is then the rattling of something within the lock before the door opens. An elderly looking human man answers, hair wispy white and around shoulder length, and a long plain robe of a similar shade that reaches his bare feet. His voice sounds parched as he speaks. "Yes, can I help you?" He looks the party up and down, less like the villagers they have seen where it has been with caution and a bit of fear, more with inquisitiveness as if discerning something. "Are you seeking sanctuary?"
"Incorrect. We are recent arrivals with several inquires we wish to make, as well as potential a request for a lantern."Tefkae replied after sizing up the man in turn with interest. "If it is alright, might we continue discussions inside?" They asked, and upon hopefully receiving a favorable answer, made to follow in after the priest. Either outside, or as everyone files into the building, the living construct asks, "Are you the only one on duty?"

"Yes, I am the priest." The elderly man says. "It is my role to upkeep the teachings of the light and ensure the lanterns will not die, should our town die alongside it." He opens the door to allow the party in. "I ask you remove your shoes before entering, as is part of the teachings."
The inside of the chapel is sort of what one would expect. A handful of rows of polished wooden benches are lined up in front of an altar which has a white cloth laid over it. Atop the cloth is an incense burner and hanging from the ceiling are two lanterns similar to those seen around town. There is two small chambers sized for one person each that are connected to one another. The scent of the incense burner emanates through the room, though it appears to not have been lit for a few hours; a hint of perhaps lavender and something else. There are a couple of doorways that lead out of the room, one to the back, behind the altar, the other to the side after the initial entryway.
"Unfortunately I cannot provide you with your own lantern." The priest informs the group. "If it were within our abilities, all who live here would have their own guiding lantern to ensure their way. However, the art of making the lanterns has long since been lost to the town, and only the art of igniting them remains."
Zack takes out a book and says, "If you don't mind me asking, Mr. Priest, I've noticed that the weapons of the guards are bolstered by holy magic. Would mind telling me a bit of how this holy magic works? How do the guards draw the power of magic?"
Tefkae nods along as if in agreement with Zack. "In addition, do you at least have any records -- heresay or otherwise -- of an alternate location in which these lanterns might've been created, and to what possible alternate end, if any? " They asked. "This one asked out of interest of possibly reviving this 'lost art' of creation. Though it would seem at the very least that we may have to accompany the hunter in the future if we are to travese the boundaries of this town, and find our means of 'leaving' this plane of existence."

"The teachings of the way of the light are passed down from teacher to student over generations." The priest mentions, walking over to the twin lanterns over the altar. "In our town we have forty-six remaining lanterns. When I first took the oath to become The Priest there were fifty-one. Seven have been lost over that time, a failure that is something I carry myself every day."The priest leans his hands on the altar to support his old frame. "Forty lanterns are spread out along the town, ensuring that none of the streets are shrouded by the mists. Four lanterns are given to specific roles, The Scholar, The Hunter, The Mayor, and The Guard Captain. These two are the last remaining ones not assigned, so they are kept here until another is lost to the mists; perhaps when the current hunter goes missing, or the scholar gets too curious for their own good..."

Zack jots down some notes and says, "Might it be possible to hear a summary of the teachings of light for I am quite interested in the matter. Would it be possible to take a look at the two remaining lanterns? I'm not asking to remove them from the altar just observe it from close up."
If Zack is allowed to carefully examine the lanterns, he would try to gleam any information that he can from these clearly magical lanterns. Stuff like what makes them tic, why is it that the mist beasts are repelled by these lanterns and not normal lanterns. What form of magic might have been used to create the lanterns etc.\

Zack is allowed to approach and begins to examine the lanterns.
The lanterns are a fine piece of craftsmanship. Each of them appear to have mithril inlaid within the interior, easier to see up close, and ornate markings adorn the exterior that depict some sort of ancient script potentially. Though they have endured over generations, these two lanterns look perfectly pristine, no wear or tear upon them.
The markings appear to lightly flicker in the light of the other lantern, and provide some sort of other mark when looked at from the correct angle, slightly shown in a whitish-blue glow.
The magic used to forge these must be a work of artificing and the work of a well trained wizard. Based on its construction, and the perpetual eerie light that glows within, it is likely that they are a workmanship of conjuration to produce the flame, abjuration for whatever it uses to "ward" the town, and possibly something else that isn't visible to the naked eye. Even with a blueprint, it would've taken potentially months to make something of this calibre.
Zack mumbles to himself, "Interesting" but seems a bit disappointed.
In light of his roll(s?) does Zack think the lantern's construction might be linked to souls?
Theoretically it could do.
It is a possability, though this is a completely different realm than what he is used to, so the laws of how souls flow and cycles of rebirth/reincarnation/afterlife could be different. However, given Zack's particular knowledge, they could have something similar to a soul cage or magic jar effect to them.
Zack feels something weird about her statement though he doesn't know why or what. He asks, "Is that so? Why is that?"
Miss Fygg looks to Zack. "Well, the mayor doesn't really fancy company." She explains. "The mayor believes that his time is best put into the town. Upon leaving the group has some options on where they can go next for their information.

(OOC: Perhaps some divination spells, like Detect Magic, Identify, and Comprehend Languages are best for providing the more relevant parts of the answer.)
Zack will try to ritual cast Comprehend Languages.
