To granny "How about we offer the money back as we sell. We send back the money as soon as we have sold 3 books. It doesn't give him any certainty but we will promise to try and sell them as quickly as we can."

"We can try," says Granny, "but I think he might be needing something upfront. How about we offer him 6 Engles now for half the books and sell the rest on consignment, which will be another six Engles for him later on down the track." 

"Sounds good."

[OOC: If you agree to Nanny's proposal of offering Fini 12 Engles, half up front and half on consignment, then all you have to do is get Fini to agree to the payment on consignment part of the deal; the money is what he is expecting, but the delayed payment isn't. The DC to beat is 12, but you get to roll at Advantage because Granny is helping. Also, don't forget that Guilliame has 3 hero dice for the day that he can also use, if you want.]

[OOC: The above is a success with an actual result of 22. To clarify, this was a contested Persuasion check versus my previously rolled value of 12 for Fini. However, when one character 'Helps' another, the person with the best chance normally gets to roll the check with Advantage. In this case, Guilliame is the best person to make the roll as he is proficient in Persuasion and has a higher Charisma bonus than Granny giving his a bonus of +2 to the roll.]

Guilliame and Granny move back into the kitchen, where Granny immediately fills Fini's mug again from the bottle. Guilliame then makes his offer and Fini doesn't even hesitate before agreeing.

"Westerport is not that far away," he says, "And, when I get everything set up, I will be looking to sell books in the city again. Perhaps, if this arrangement works, we can come to some arrangement for you to sell my books on a permanent basis."

[OOC: Granny has mentioned Westerport before in regard to Master Fini (see here), however, Guilliame still doesn't know where it is.]

"Where is Westerport? I don't think I know it."

"Two days wagon ride upriver," replies Fini. "A rider can make it in a day, if they leave early and ride all day. There is also a messenger service depot there now, though I have not used it yet."

"Do you know if tghey practice Gontish style magick there or is ir done in the Soredenese fashion?"

Fini frowns and is quiet for a moment before saying, "Most of the people in Westerport are Stemian... We have our own ways."

Despite having a Stemian grandmother and travelling in the countryside with his father, Guilliame has no idea why the Stemian indigenous culture is not as advanced with sorcery as either the Sorendenese or the Gundians. He does know that they are quite happy to use magic but that they normally limit themselves to ritual magick. This is perhaps one of the reasons the Sorendenese look down on the Stemian people of Engle.

"Your cat was certainly formidable."

"Not my cat," says Fini with a shrug. "It was in the house when we bought it and deigned to let us live with it."

He then adds, "Tell me again about the monster you saw. The neighbours have told me some very strange stories about that night."

"Whenever I entered alone the cat was a cat. When the guards came to investigate the break in and found the thief in there it looked gigantic and fearsome. I persuaded them to leave it alone and it reverted to *****cat again."

Fini shakes his head and says, "Well I... I have never heard the like."

Granny suddenly stops eating and her face goes thoughtful. "I have," she says. "When I was a little girl in the country there was a grove considered sacred by my people. It was completely safe for us to go in, but anybody else entering without permission from the village shaman would be attacked by large carnivorous creatures not normally seen in those parts. I never actually saw the creatures but I saw what they did to a band of roving Itich. It was both terrible and good, as it seemed the Itich had plans to attack our village."

[OOC: Guilliame would have run up against the Itich in his travels. A diminutive people, they are only really dangerous in large numbers. Unfortunately, they are prodigious breeders and population pressure sometimes forces the tribes to come south from where the normally live in the north. Guilliame would have heard reports that this is happening at the moment and he is reminded of the palisade at Ilbarsis, which was built against such incursions.]

"It sounds a pro-Stemian creature. Do you have any idea how it could have got in, Master Fini?"

"It has always had the run of the yard," replies Fini, scratching his head. "And took to the house quickly enough once the wife and children started feeding it... They named it Patch, as in Pumpkin Patch because of its colouring, and the children were quite upset when we could not find it when we left."

Then he adds, "Oh, and you can call me Frans, Guilliame, if you like. It feels a bit strange hearing you call me master."

"Thank you, Franz. Did your cat ever do anything unusual previously?"

Frans thinks for a while before saying, "Nothing specific, but I think if must have had secret way in and out of the house because I never had to let it out in the middle of the night like you have to do with most animals."
