"Master Helas, failing that the School and failing that the Brand residence on Empire Row. But be cautious with the latter. Contact me, even if you don't need to. How shall I contact you?"
[[Palace View Row, actually.]]
"Where to now? The roof?"
Brand gathers his gear and moves the stones to the usual home.
"Helas' shop for me as well to start with," says Melitta. "I'll let you know otherwise later. Now go."
Melitta then heads toward the back door.

[[ I'm assuming the front is still locked etc ]]
[[Brand doesn't know if the front is 'still' locked as he and the others came in the back door and Melitta is going out the back door.]]
Brand goes back up the stairs to the second floor where there are three doors opening off the short corridor. One leads into the warded room, which he doesn't remember there being a window in. Glance back down the corridor to the warded room to see if he also sees magic, then investigate the unknown room. If there are no unwarded shutters there, check the sleeping room.
Looking back down the corridor, Brand sees that the door to the warded room also has a sheen of magic over it.
He opens the door into unknown room and discovers a small washroom/garderobe. However, as well as what might be usually found in such a room, there is a low cupboard under what appears to be a access hatch in the ceiling.
He climbs or levitates to poke his head into the roof space, and looks around for possible exits and or holes in the roof.
[[ Was there any similarity between the magic on the shutters an on Melitta's door? ]]
[[Make an Arcana check.]]
Brand levitate up to the access hatch and pushes against it. It gives with a scraping sound and Brand is covered by a shower of fine dust.
Putting his head through he finds he is indeed in the roof space. It is full of wooden beams, dust and spider's webs, but there is also light up here. Off to one side, in what he estimates is likely the centre of the roof space, Brand can see a roughly rectangular outline caused by the light of a lantern being reflected off the sides of a rectangular hole in the wall between this house and the adjoining house.
[[That's it for me for tonight. Ciao.]]

Brand lifts his bandana over his nose and mouth.
[[ Confused, "off to one side, in the centre of the roof space" is unclear to me.
Is the hole leading to another roof space, or to an outside air gap between houses?

How sturdy does the roof look? Could he move the tiles/thatch and just go through the roof?

]]
Realising time is of the essence, Brand drops down, swaps Uplifting for Far Reaching, and from the safety of the bedroom, uses Far Reaching to open the shutters. If no explosions occur, he swaps the stones back and approaches the opening. First he looks outside for activity, then he launches himself out the opening to a rid across the alley, stealthily.

[[Should have mentioned this earlier. There is also a large-enough shuttered window in this washroom, which is also covered by some sort of magic spell. I will assume the above action is done to this window.]]
Keeping far away in fear of explosions, Brand uses the Stone of Far Reaching to lift the latch on the shutters in the washroom. He then uses the stone to push one of the shutters open and takes a look out.
He is now looking out over the back yard of the house. Below him, he can see Melitta (whose sword is no longer glowing), Jay and the two women. They are up against the right-hand fence listening to what is going on on the other side of the fence. In the next yard, Brand can see torches being held high in the hands of armed men and then he hears the sound of a sudden impact. Between him and this activity Brand can see there is a strong concentration of magic particles hanging in the air apparently connected to nothing he can see. It vaguely reminds him of Madame Damass's focus point, but it is not as clearly defined.

Brand will attempt to take note of the structure of the diffuse magic, then working on the assumption that the focus of magic has a field of view that is limited to some extent, like Madame Damas', and that it is watching the events below, Brand exits the window, and heads back and up, away from both Melitta and the mass of magic particles. He quickly, and stealthily tries to place a hard barrier -- building, wall, roof line, between himself and the magic.

Assuming 'x' is feasible, he moves to x (ie. 'behind' the neighbours, in earshot, and away from the lantern holders in the roof.).
If 'x' is not feasible, and y is, he moves to z then y.
If they also have firmly attachec shingles, then he will move down the roof to get nearer if necessary (from your description, I assume the apex of the rooves run left to right in my diagram).
[[ How tall is the fence? Do y and z also have yards, or did they go with McMansions? ]]
If just by moving along Melitta's roof (left), he will see over the fence, then he will just do that.

Revised map (V) is I assume where Brand could get a better view. (H) is where I assume the hole is...So...x is now B and is where he started...
Did the hole look recent? And...which way did the bathroom door open? He will likely go inside again before he crosses roof.

[[ If the hole looked recent, and the bathroom door opens into corridor (I assume it's a small bathroom) or if he can't teor can't remember, then: ]]
He goes back into bathroom, grabs broom and any other breakable wooden items, a chair if present, exists bathroom and goes into corridor. Next he smashes the broomstick into 3 or 4 pieces, hoping to get some vaguely wedge shaped ends which he can jam under the bathroom door, also uses the chair to block handle and door...then he does the mage hand trick on the corridor shutters, swaps back, and leaves via that window.

Stealth: 14
Revised map (V) is I assume where Brand could get a better view. (H) is where I assume the hole is...So...x is now B and is where he started...
Did the hole look recent? And...which way did the bathroom door open? He will likely go inside again before he crosses roof.
[[ Question: When he opened the windows did the magic do anything? ]]
He then throws caltrops over cupboard and floor of bathroom, and bearings on the floor and closes the door. Next he smashes the broomstick into 3 or 4 pieces, hoping to get some vaguely wedge shaped ends which he can jam under the bathroom door, also uses the chair to block handle and door...then he does the mage hand trick on the corridor shutters, swaps back, and leaves via that window.

[[ Do all doors open inwards, or do they have door handles on the corridor side? Thinking of roping opposite ones. Or other anchor points. ]]
[[ If they have rope-able handles: ]]
Brand curses, and returns to the bathroom, sprinkles caltrops on the floor and cabinet, empties his oil flask and bearings on the floor, then shuts the door and ropes the handles of two opposite doors. Then does the mage hand trick on the corridor shutters, and gets ready to floats out (left hand) invisible (right hand), while listening for noises from above and below.
