((Hey, it's hell. Who is to say that everything didn't just somehow slow down so we could hear the tragic and terrifying information that would be sure to tear at our resolve??))
After you drove though that horrible road of crucified knights and specifically Jander, Lulu went silent and looked now even less shiny, burrowed between Choir and Fran, not even watching the road.
Though, there was no road. The other side of the hill, fortunately, was not decorated with the iron trees, bit was not in any way designed for the safe descending either - it was doable, but promised to be really bumpy (Dex/Str (Acrobatic/Athletic) check, DC7 or take 5 bludgeoning damage)
The hellscape in front of you was not that different from the one left behind, but unless someone is hiding behind the boulders you can see on the way to the lightning device - no warlord can be spotted around.
The engine still roars as if at full capacity (It was barely 4 hours from 72 you had before) and you could definitely travel a bit longer before any need for the rest. When you approached the lighting producing construction, you could see that radiant light cascades from a rusted metal monument shaped like the upraised mandibles of a giant beetle. Right in front your eyes, a deformed - obviously of chaotic-demonic nature - creature, lured in by the light was zapped by the lightning, that came from the top of of one of the "mandible".
Between the zapper’s spines, 50 feet above the ground there is a sphere - the source of the light, that lures demons. You can not figure out from that distance what is the actual source of the light, but see your next target you need to come closer anyway. (subtract four more hours of travel to the "demon zapper")
Choir pats Lulu gently as she watches the giant bug zapper with interest. Despite being a cleric of the tempest, she does not know how to cast a lightning bolt, and several times wished she could have zapped demons like that...

Adray continued forward. He had no idea if it was the right way but the Hag said they just picked a place and to keep on driving. When the road was about to end he'd yell out, "where we're going we don't need roads," and rev the engine. "Hang on."

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
“This is crazy. This is crazy. This is crazy,” Polly repeated over and over again. Even when she did find moments of feeling safe and comfortable upon this rocketing racer she still found the whole thing, for want of a better word... crazy.
Should we have tried to help them back there? She wondered. Could we have? Even if you try to put someone out of their misery in hell would it would? Would it be hell if it was that easy? Or perhaps it is hell because nobody even tries? Is it the sense of defeat and fatalistic attitude that makes it hell?
Polly couldn’t decide, and her indecision worried at her, taunted her, made her worry that was part of made it hell too...
"Part of me thinks we should stop and try to put any living thing trapped here out of it's misery... Perhaps, maybe that would allowed their souls to escape. But I don't know... No way to know. And is it worth risking ourselves and our main mission?" Polly asks, mostly just talking to herself, not really meaning to even talk aloud.
Fran would blink at Adray's question. She doesn't remember if the hag mentioned anything of the sort. If she did, the redhead didn't recall. "Welp." She start. "Still a machine of sorts ya?" Not sure if that was rhetorical or not. "Part 'live', part not." She thought. "Either way. We should get sum indication eh?" The artificer did do a quick check after their chase for any potential repairs, but frequent checks and maintenance was never a bad thing. "Can keep checkin' in." She'd nod, setting out to do another check.
While doing a mechanical investigation, Frans attention would of course be drawn in the same direction the others were staring. She'd rub her eyes, perhaps leaving behind some dirt or grease marks on her cheeks. "Aye. Is that...?" She'd blink in disbelief. But then she'd glance over to Lulu. She was real. And a real joy too. Why was it so unbelievable for her to see a real unicorn?. But... how? Why here? The artificer would look over to Polly as she'd over hear her outer thoughts.
"We've helped everyone else but Jander...?" She'd blurt the thought out loud. When do they choose it's best to help? Would they truly ever know when it's worth it? In the end... who was she to judge or decide who deserves to be here? Suffering was suffering.
And it was a freaking unicorn.
She'd look to Lulu. Did she know it too? Before looking back up to its 'prison'. How was it trapped? Could they even help?
Kenku did not mention it (probably thinking that knowledge to be something obvious) but as sturdy as war machines look, the harsh conditions of the Nine Hells can cause an infernal war machine to stop functioning properly, until it eventually breaks down, even without a fight. For now, to Fran's knowledge, Tormentor looks fine (as good as it was when you got it). The engine is hot, too hot for any regular machine of any kind, but Chukka and Clonk mentioned that it's normal. By Fran's estimation, you still have at least another four-five hours drive without stopping.
Still, you were driving non-stop for good eight hours - if not for machine sake, at least for Adray's you might want to stop to stretch your legs.
Lulu was keeping her eyes on the lightning sphare from the moment Ordrag announced his discovery. Jander's name made to lower her head as if in shame but then she looked at the creature in the devils contraption again. "I do not even remember if I knew that unicorn. But I can not bear to see him trapped like this."She was on the verge of tears.
Ordrag had visited many ports in his time on the Grinning Oyster. Some had streets full of slaves. Other had districts banned to half orcs. That's just the way it was - you couldn't do anything to change it. It felt that way here. He didn't come to hell and expect to find everything perfect, or expect to change what was.
But he wasn't heartless either - he still felt pity, and Adray's words swayed him. The unicorn would indeed make a useful ally than an elf vampire, and probably more reliable and more deserving of release.
"Let's have a look, eh. See what Fran can figure out. But be careful too... that Zapper looks like it keeps the demon numbers down."
