Perhaps we should investigate the box a little bit more. I think there were levers on the side and glass domes on the other side. Would we have any idea what they do?
Gulgus looks at all the posturing with the devices like a cow looking at a new gate. A time or two he opened his mouth to add to the discussion, but found a complete lack of anything meaningful to say and just closes it again with a lost look on his face. He uses this time to rest from the previous battle and recover some of his health.
With the Starling's renovation complete, attention is turned to the box, with Lia supposing there is more to this facility than this large chamber.
Renata takes a more detailed look through it. Looking at the tiny glass domes on the inside, to the side of each seem to be markedly faded labels with a mix of archaic common, elvish and dwarven characters. Some parts of each are still legible while others are beyond recognition.
She then focuses on the nearby lever. It appears to articulate in both directions to a point. Pushing it towards the entrance seems to be halted by something. Pulling it away from the entrance causes hidden doors at the box's entrance to start to move closed.
As the investigation continues, Gulgus, with the previous fight and repairing multiple flying machines taking a toll on him, takes some well-earned time to catch his breath (10 points healed).
Seeing the letters on the glass dome, Renata will lean close and try to read anything that still makes sense. She only speaks common and elvish, so she'll ask if anyone speaks dwarvish as well. And the lever is halted by something? Maybe there is a contraption that needs to be opened.
"I think our two options are to take the Starling, or to figure out how this chamber works." Renata says.
"Perhaps we should try to fix more of the machines? They are such wondrous inventions! It would be a shame to leave them like they are now." Avia steps towards the other constructs. "Of course we could do that later, after we find the Steelscream Hawk."
"This is honestly a bit beyond me." Lia says with a glance at the constructs and the small room that seems to be some sort of transportation between levels here. "I can try to help figure out what that says, but I don't really speak any languages that will likely help..." (she only addes Deep Speach to the list of languages... But she will givet the 'help' actiona nd cast guidance on anyone trying to figur eit out...)
"Unless this contraption fights, I may be at a loss. And unless it was constructed by beings from the lower plane, my knowledge will not help decipher it either. But I'll do what I can to support anyone who can." Kysdiane says.
(OOC: Same as Lia, he can use the help action and/or cast guidance)

"In my short time here, it has become clear that there is no one Steelscream Hawk," Nessarian says to Avia, "Rather it is a gestalt legend of the constructs you see here. As for the final one we don't see, I am unsure what function the Gyrfalcon has. I see references in its tome as a 'flying fortress,' but without further context, it could mean anything. Most of the pages regarding that that would be in anaglogous places in the other tomes seem to be missing."

"It makes no sense to leave here without at least checking out where this thing leads..." Lia says, nodding to the room and the control panel inside of it. She would try to make sense of it herself.
Arcana or investigation (mod is the same): 15 (rolling with the help action being given.) Guidance: 3
Lia takes a look at the panel by the with Kysdiane's help. At first, her progress suffers until Kysdiane points out that the length of the languages at each glass dome are similar. With that last bit of information, it clicked that each of them may say a similar phrase.
From top to bottom the broken labels read as follows (underscores indicate missing letters): MA_ _ (space) P_RT, CRY_ _LA_ _UM, AL_ O_ (space) FO_G_, _ER_ _YNA_ _C_ (space) TEST_ _ _
Avia focuses on the mechanics about the box. Upon closer inspection of the lever, she is able to observe a piece of metal that appears to be just underneath the box, preventing the lever from moving toward the entrance, but is allows it to move away from the entrance.
"Sounds good to me," Kysdiane says, "I suppose we will try all of them at some point so we might as well start somewhere." He steps inside the box and gestures for the rest of the group to follow. "Although perhaps we should be a bit more careful..." he says as he steps back out to the front of the facility and spends a quick minute casting Alarm, set to a mental ping if anyone other than the people present enter this facility. "Now we know we won't be snuck up on and we are free to explore the rest of this place in peace."

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
"Let's just close the doors first..." Lia says, moving back to the controls and closing the huge outer doors before moving back into the small room with the others. Before closing the doors this time she calls their guide inside, so that they are not locked out again.
After remembering to close the main doors for the second time, and to make sure no more unexpected guests arrive, Kysdiane arms the door for security.
Following that, they enter the box and pull the lever away from its entrance. The hidden doors close and they have a momentary feeling of moving downward, despite standing in one place. Before long, the faint light in the top glass dome fades and another light appears next to the "CRYSTALARIUM" label. The movements stops with s sonorous CLUNK.
The doors open up to reveal a dark room, 60 feet deep by 50 feet wide by 20 feet high. On the west side, near the box are lots of dusty, complex, and generally unmaintained equipment as well as a small chest. On the north side is a closed door. The east side has a number of bookshelves and cabinets. The south has a set of double doors with a bar running across them. Broken windows flank the doors. About the floor are the remnants of chairs and a number ruined books.

Renata would suggest Avia to use mending on the labels, see if it can restore the broken phrases.
And how large is a metal piece under the box, are we able to remove it?
With a wave of Renata's hand, parts of the broken labels start coming back together, making them much more clear, in a bit faded.
They now read: MAIN PORT, CRYSTALARIUM, ALLOY FORGE, AERODYNAMICS TESTING
