Lia grew up with her mother, living in the city of Waterdeep. They got by, her mother working at the Yawning Portal as a waitress, while Lia was often left to run the streets with her friends. She eventually fell in with the wrong crowd, and started learning to pick pockets, as well as locks. When her mother found out Lia was brought to the Yawning Portal, where Durnin had a talking with her, that she pretty much ignored. Her mother was always worried about the lack of a father in her life, and offtimes Durnin tried to step in and help out his employee by being a male role model in Lia's life. She did not know who her father was in truth, but her half-elven blood, shown through the white hair she had, that could almost be passed off as a very light shade of blond, pluss her slightly pointed ears, told her that he was most likely an elf of some kind. As she grew older, magical powers began to manifest. She began to ask more questions about her true father, and, eventually her mother sat her down and explained that she had fallen in love with an elf. They had spent a couple years traveling together, but he had had to leave, since he was uncomfortable living among humans. It was a lie, and Lia knew it for a lie, but she also could see there was some pain there that her mother was very clearly not over, and most likely would never be over. She let it drop, but wondered who this mystery elf was who had sired her, then left. That was not the biggest secret though, and the second part was an even bigger blow. Her mother was not human either, as Lia had always believed. She was instead an Aasimar, who had traveled some with Durnin during his later adventuring career, and was why she worked for him now in his tavern. Lia had a bit of an identity crisis at this point, having one parent who was an unknown elf, and her mother, her rock and sole family, not be the human woman she had always believed. She became a bit rebellious and started doing more with her bad-crowd friends, and even got thrown into jail a couple of times for various infractions. It was during an outing with her friends that Lia came across the crystal shard. It was a jet-black crystal, the size of her fist. She felt 'drawn' to it, and could not help but pick it up. As soon as she did a voice spoke to her, though she could not understand the voice at first. It took her some time to do so, and then she was not sure what it meant most of the time. Its wording was so cryptic and often nonsense, that she often simply disregarded what it had to say. She couldn't get rid of it though, and had no desire to do so, feeling she needed to keep it close always. Eventually Lia got over her identity issues, and found she liked just being herself. She kept in contact with those friends from her rebellious stage though, people she trusted and knew would have her back. She spent a lot of time in the Yawning Portal, talking to adventurers and watching some go into the Well, while others traveled abroad. She yearned to follow after them, but was uncertain if she was ready for that yet.
I don't see any particular reason for you to change your character. I already solved the issue you pointed out of us lacking in the healing department. (Mind you, Lia, DragonDenn's character, does have some access to healing spells, but I feel like we could have a little more.) The decision is up to you on whether you'd like to change your character or not.

I just noticed this now. It seems like you made a tiny mistake when trying to copy and paste your character's backstory. No worries, it happens, I just thought I'd let you know.
Actually, just the DM can read your character sheet completely. All the other players can read a shortened version that doesn't include your character description and notes (try reading mine for example), the latter is where you have your backstory written.
Not like it matters, I'm just letting you know. After all, everyone can read your backstory using the copied version you sent, we just need to scroll down a bit.

Before the wait becomes too long, I think I'm just going to start the adventure this afternoon (I'd say around 3:00 PM CST). After the first post of adventure I will make an OOC chat to cut down on the clutter in this thread.
Campaign-specific rules will be stated in the first OOC post.
@Papervolcano: Until you let me know otherwise, I'll assume you're still interested in playing and add you to the OOC chat.
Son of teen orcish father and teen human mother, who met in the woods near the border and fashioned a relationship over time. The relationship ended when Gark was born. Despite being very close to his mother and having very human features, he always felt like an outcast and never feeling fully accepted by humans. He spent most of his time in the same woods where his parents met each other, and which is where he met his mentor, a ranger who patrolled the borderlands. Gark trained to become a ranger and grew to love the woods. Unfortunately, his awkward half-orc hands never quite took to archery, so he largely focused on swords.
His town and the surrounding area were devastated by a orc raid, resulting in the deaths of both his mentor and his mother and pretty much everyone else in town. Gark was one of the only survivors. As a result, Gark absolutely hates orcs and will go out of his way to kill every one he sees. He never met his father, but he wouldn't hesitate to cleave him in half if they should cross paths.
The Kharkan mountain range has always been a hotbed for mining prospects. Some of them are successful. Others don't have the same luck. Most of what comes out is iron ore, although the odd gem or semiprecious stone has been found every now and again.
At the base of a mountain called the "Lesser Crest," is one of the more lasting operations, the Ragkohm Mine. The potential for work there naturally lead to the establishment of the town of Kohmstead at the mountain's foot (approximately 3/4 mile between the mine and the town). The main road of the town cuts roughly through the middle leading from the entrance of town to the Crest Ravine leading deeper into Khakan range.
Around town:
The local inn and tavern is the Pick and Tap, run by Raicho Surren and his wife Evonnia
Administrative offices for the mine are located halfway between the mine and the town. Equipment shed is near the mine's entrance.
Mayor's residence is in the middle of town
The trading post is used by miners and locals for what they need, from food to tools to clothing. Run by Arnout Prenger
A forge was originally established to repair tools but has since expanded to include armor and weapons when bandits started becoming a problem. Run by Hrall Blackarm
There are barracks for guardsmen with towers located at each each end of town
Further away from the mountains, there is some farmland to support the town.
Lia sits at a table in the Pick and Tap, nursing a pint of ale. She is a white-haired woman, with the slightly pointed ears of a half-elf. her clothing is simple, a tunic and belt, with a crossbow at one hip. The component pouch around her waist marks her as a magic wielder.

The sleeping world is one that most mortals enjoy, although memories of each trip range from fragmented to fleeting.
Some wish what they've achieved in such times would manifest in reality. A long-since-deposed and forgotten ruler aspires to do just that.
However, a dream for one may become a nightmare for many more.

Looks like we have a full party!
I will send campaign invites and as soon as everyone is in, I'll start!
(Recruitment is closed and thread is now private.)

Not much healing in this party of ours! 😉
I allowed Pertuie to change characters and I feel I should extend a similar allowance to everyone.
If you want to make any changes before the campaign starts, let me know.

I'll change if anyone thinks we need something different than Gark -- a half-orc ranger who eschews bows and hates orcs.
