"I'd say we should get out of here." Lia says with a frown. "We may just have to go through anyone outside of here." She looks to the others. "Can someone man the weapons of this construct, while I move to the harier and prepare to separate that construct from this one once we are in flight."
(I will bot Avia for now, I may actually have to remove her later)
Avia takes Lia's cue and goes to the underside turret's controls while Lia activates the Gyrfalcon completely and opens the doors. In the meantime, Scath also boards the vessel before the back hatch closes.
With the doors now open, it is easier to see what is happening. There a number of number of multicolored, oscillating lights seemingly orbiting the hangar and surrounding area. What's more, they seem to be slowly lifting off from the rest of the Shestari Salt Flats. So far, nothing seems to be entering the hangar.
How would you like to take off? Emergency or normal?
Lia is not use to this type of thing, even if she has the knowledge, she doesn't have the experience. Thus she would go for normal lift off, as she is a bit too-new at this to trust her knowledge completely.
Gulgus, lacking both experience and knowledge, tries to be as supportive to Lia's efforts as possible while not showing that he's as scared as a lone cow under the shadow of a descending dragon.
Not feeling confident enough to take too many risks, Lia uses the normal sequence to get used to the controls. She taxis the Gyrfalcon outside and sees that there is not a lot of room to take off fully, but they are high enough in the air that with enough speed and the assistance of gravity, there might be enough lift on the wings. It would take some effort.
Lia, roll strength or constitution with proficiency.
Lia safely brings the Gyrfalcon up to speed. As she expected there was not enough room to take off. With little choice, she pushes it over the edge, literally, and past the orbs of light surrounding Project Iron Skies facility. They saw that they were around 200 feet in the air by the time they made it to the edge. After a few seconds of free-falling, she judges that enough air was going over the wings to attain lift and she begins to make the craft pull up into the air.
It takes a considerable amount of effort, almost too much for her. Almost. It was very close, almost 30 feet from the ground before she was able to level the craft off and begin to ascend.
As they leave the sun-baked desert floor below them, they looked back to see what was happening to where they had just left. It begins disappearing from sight. Not just the building, but also the grounds around it. It all fades from their vision, leaving only a cavernous void that falls into only darkness.
"Well, I'd say we made it out of there in the nick of time." Lia says, arms trembling a bit from the work getting the construct into the air. "Who knew flying would be such work..." She says with a soft chuckle. "Everyone ok back there?"
As the color begins to return to his face Gulgus replies, "Aye, I ne'er doubted ye lass" and then, realizing he still has his fingers locked in a death grip on the chair he's in, relaxes a bit.
With relief and awe hitting everyone at once, Cree speaks up, "Doin' fine back here. Just gettin' kinda concerned about some strange power that's able to take huge swaths of land."
"That ain't the first time that happened. Remember that caravan on the way to that place? Sure, nobody saw what happened then. But we surely saw the signs."
"That's not all..." Nessarian says as he stumbles out of the room he was in, seemingly jostled awake. "Those were in seemingly barren, uninhabitable areas. Imagine what would happen if a village or even a city was subjected to that?"
"I'm afraid the sort of magic might be far beyond my scope of knowledge. It could very well be that library will be our destination, regardless." Nessarian chimes in. "However, we do not know what is in the library itself. Incidentally, I noticed some our number is not here, now. Perhaps we should look for more hands?"
"I ain't much for any library," Cree says. "If it's not too much trouble, could you take me back ta Razzel's Edge? I've seen what will happen before whatever that was takes an area. Things are getting mighty strange. Maybe some folk would be willing ta help?"
Gulgus nods in agreement. "Aye. Sounds like a plan. I've always found a library tae be a great place of repose...maybe this one will be no different. Hopefully we ken bolster our numbers at ye ole Razzle's Edge."
"Seems like a plan then." Lia agrees, steering the craft in that direction. "More help in this mission would be greatly appreciated to my way of thinking..."
It takes a mere fraction of the time to make it back to Razzel's Edge. Before, it took nearly a day and a half, it took only the better part of an hour for the return.
On approach to the outskirts of the city, there is some definite activity can be seen from the settlement, even from afar. Some people are running into buildings while others seem to be gathering at the edge of town.
Lia looks for a good landing place, but a bit from town. She would not have gotten close enough with it to be spotted from town, as it would likely scare people needlessllly
Keeping Razzel's Edge just on the horizon, Lia lands the aircraft to keep it out of sight. They estimate that there is only around a half-day's travel back to civilization.
Thankfully, the journey back to town is largely uneventful. Just on the edge of the settlement, they see the remaining carriages from the caravan in which a large portion of them disappeared with a sizable area of desert a couple of days earlier. Throughout town, there is a general sense of unease.
"Where should we go to seek those who can help us?" Lia asks, glancing to their guide. "We won't want to stay in town long, so any idea where we should start?"
