((Sorry, i completely missed that last post. Kastor meant to ask whether the water was a deep pool, or a well, or a running stream, etc, rather than where the water initially comes from, but my bad for not specifying. Yeah, i think we're leaning more towards the water path. Nasaar and Kastor both are, at least. )
(Yeah, having previously noted Rusty's immunity to the telepathic connection and having relayed earlier information, Kastor would be sure to continue that where needed)
The mushroom remains at the intersection, looking about as the party heads down the path. Soon you can hear the sound of rushing water as you all enter a wide room. With holes in the ceiling, pouring water into a pool taking up most of the space in the cavern room. The pool's water is somewhat murky but you can see some shiny thing dart about in the waters.
Kastor will sit to take some time with some rituals in this cavern, first casting Locate Animals or Plants, searching for the Apple of the Deep one more, then going on to cast Detect Magic, paying particular attention to the water and anything in it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rusty steps in to the path looking around and paying close attention to the water for some clarification of the previously seen streak. He has his dagger and handbow ready.
The first spell seems to be pointing to the shiny object in the water, even following its pathing for a moment. The second spell doesn't detect anything within the waters.
As he sits there, and as others think of a plan, Kastor will cast Speak with Animals as a ritual. I assume it won't work (since it's just beasts) so if someone else takes any action, Kastor will stop. But if the ten minutes go past without others doing anything, Kastor will plunge his head under the water and call out to the creature, "Hello friend! I noticed you swimming around and couldn't help but wonder, What are you?"
"I'd say the water route then." Nasaar says with a glance to the tunnels.
'The water comes from above. It was naturally made due to the basin above.'
(So water path then?)

"Want to try your locate spell again?" Nasaar suggest to Caster.

"That's it! That's the apple of the deep! ...do we need it alive?"
Kastor will keep looking around whilst detect magic is still active, now that the water is clear he'll check everywhere else in view.

The room lacks any magic and the apple looks to be deep in the water but it is hard to discern how deep it actually is.
