"I do not know what is at the rock. Only that there were footprints in the sand leading that way. Call it.. a hunch" The warforged would add while turning to Tara.
Taking Virnen's hand "Yes, I think so. Thank you." She follows the others toward the rock. (Assuming Lucky is also going.) She drifts over to Lucky trying to match his stride though obviously struggling to do so. "My friends gave me the nickname Squall. There are a few reasons, my birth, the mark, my powers. But most of all it comes from my tendency to shift moods suddenly and passionately. With everything that has happened today I am having a harder time than ever keeping things in check. All that is to say I'm sorry I lost my temper and tried to smack you."
As the group bands together and make their way l, William calls out as he begins to sift through the left over remains in the chest. It appears to be magically enchanted as it stores more than it should. William pulls out:
A scorched and ruined book, some blackened ivory and bone trinkets, a smoldering body that looks to be goblinoid, some glammer weave fabric sheets.
The book looks to be the flight manifest, unreadable. The body looks to resemble Lespin.
Lucky watches as Squall is revived, and listens to her apology. He shrugs. Sweetheart, people try to smack me all the time. Can't imagine why. Don't worry about it. He gives her what he hopes is a conciliatory grin, and then his expression grows more sombre as they come upo n the chest and the body. Poor sod. Look, this is getting really bad. Whatever this doppelganger's plan was, it's gone to shit. Downing an airship? Killing this guy? Our killer is desperate. He looks grim. We need to tell everyone, and I mean everyone. Crew and passengers. Otherwise, they'll go wandering off into the rocks and get themselves picked off one by one. Crap. It's gonna be hard to avoid a panic. Anyone got any ideas?
William responds “You’re right, I’ll go manage the crowd, you go handle the investigation.” With that he turns back around and heads to the group of civilians and crew.
the group makes their way to the large flat black stone. But as you draw near you can now tell that there is a gap of space between the sand and the stone. Heat waves dance in the air as it rises from out under the stone.
Tara is silent on the brief walk, mentally organizing her thoughts. "Thus far, we have found Lespin's body, found Sophie's body, determined a doppelganger was responsible for Sophie's death, determined that someone scratched through the runes keeping the airship aloft, and that someone went towards this rock. The logical conclusion is that the doppelganger killed Lespin, took on his identity, then killed Sophie and crashed the ship. However, we still do not know their motive or allies." She removes a small rock from the ground, which begins to glow with golden light. "Furthermore, there is something beneath this rock. Would you like me to throw the light so we can see within?"
”But that would mean it was the doppelgänger that alerted us to their own crime. Why....it was to distract us as they disabled the ship. Though why us and not the captain and crew?”
"It's possible we were not the direct targets. They may have simply wanted to draw as many people belowdeck as possible. And the alert did divert suspicion from 'Lespin' until after he was gone." Tara's eyes narrow. "Now, however, we will likely be direct targets, as we are actively investigating them. How fascinating." She doesn't seem particularly perturbed by the notion.

Lucky Dale, Shifter Bard
Better us than the other passengers, Lucky says to Tara. And while there's a lot we don't know about our doppelganger friend, we do know they like things that go 'boom'. So I'm thinking we all stand back and Tara throws that pretty stone down from a bit of a distance. He backs up and looks around warily - is anyone watching them? Perception21

“Yes, they have made it quite clear that we are targets now. But I think you are right. We should also be very careful moving forward. I think I am lucky to still be here after that last attack. Maybe give us a moment to prepare before you do so.”
Salqwyn looks around to see if there is anywhere to hide or get a bit of cover. If she can’t find any she moves to one side of the entrance staying 50’ away. Either way she readies Ray of Frost for the first target that seems hostile.
"Hmm?" Tara glances at Lucky. "Oh yes, the nondragon notion of 'protection' by putting oneself between danger and perceived innocents. Illogical, but an interesting pattern." She shrugs. "I agree, the likelihood of a trap is high. Hopefully my stone will set off any such measures if they exist." She takes a few steps back from the gap and prepares to throw the stone once given the go-ahead.
Jax would draw his strange looking revolver. As he cocks the hammer back, a faint orange glow would eminate from inside the barrel as a number of runes engraved down the side of the barrel seem to burn red as though they were hit coals. with his other hand, he would open his jacket and rest his metallic fingers upon his set of tools. "I am prepared for battle." Jax would say as he moves to the side of the group, ready to fire on anything hostile. If nothing tries to immediately attack the group, The warforged would walk towards the opening with his weapon still drawn... using the light from his lens to light the way.
readied revolver Attack: 9 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
Tara tosses her rock into the gap, then immediately backs up, a blue glow flaring into life in her eyes. "Ourelonastrix, I put my life in your talons. May your wings protect us," she murmurs softly, removing her strange emblem from her bag.
Tara tosses the rock down the hole, as it falls into the pitch black darkness you hear the sounds of the stone hitting the walls. Until you hear the echoes of it hitting the bottom. Probably at least 100 feet down before it hit bottom. Nothing flies out to trigger Jax firing his weapon.
Lucky will help Jax with the climbing equipment, and then begins to follow down the rope. We're sure about this? 'Cause if we're wrong, then we're leaving all those people to the tender mercies of our doppleganger buddy. He sighs, and swings himself onto the rope to begin his descent. So, what do we reckon? A goblin clan? A portal to the nine hells? A dragon's nest? He sniffs the air - is there any smell coming from beneath along with the heat?

Virnen kneels next to Squall. "An explosion, a trap of some kind. We're not done with our enemy. Can you stand?" he offers a hand to Squall.

Tara merely frowns in answer to Jax's response, the blue glow in her eyes intensifying as she matches pace with him towards the rock.

Virnen steps back, feet spread wide, and nocks an arrow to his bowstring. "I am ready."
