Tara inclines her head to the lizard woman. The minute they start moving, she gulps, taking a shaky breath. "We're their guests," she breathes softly to the others in Common. "And we're going to feast. They think I'm an emissary of their god, it's...complicated." A frown flashes briefly across her features. "I'll explain later. For now, just be careful and don't make them mad." She keeps her head high and posture confident as she moves after Raksa, giving Lucky a brief nod as he appears.
"I am thankful that I do not require food. I would estimate that your meal may be the lizardfolk we witnessed being sacrificed" Jax would say to his companions.
Hey, better them thanus,Lucky says. They're already dead after all. He looks around. How in the hells are we going to find... you know who... in this mess?
Tara shrugs at Squall. "I do not know. My study of Blackscales was brief, and only happened because my mentor was giving me a more thorough lesson on their master. However, it feels unlikely, if only due to logistics. I cannot imagine how such a large population could be fed by the singular sacrifice victim. Also, the victim's body may now be considered holy." She looks at Lucky. "If I were trying to blend in and escape pursuers, a large tribe of lizardfolk who are overtly hostile to topsiders would be a good place to camoflauge myself in."
"I do not think they would automatically gain it, but they may already know it. Or they might just want to blend into the foot soldiers and stay quiet," Tara says softly. "It would be short term, but good to quickly lose people before vanishing."
(The sacrifice was dipped into magma, there is no body left to eat..... Squall may not know that though)
You are taken if nothing else but hastily down the tunnels winding in and out and being taken down turns and twists. As dark as things get, it’s very disorienting to navigate. The masses surrounding you get smaller and smaller until it’s left to you, the Priestess, and assuming her personal guard. They are more armored than the other Lizardfolk you say previously, adorned with white chitinous chest plates and head pieces as the shells flare out down their neck. Holding giant halberd style weapons shaped from singular pieces of volcanic stone.
You are escorted into a room with several pillows circled on the floor. It’s hard to fathom anything soft where you are. The pillows are made of sewn scales, probably molted. But as you sit down you’re pleasantly surprised how comfortable they are. AT the base of the wall is a thin line of glowing red embers. Making it seem more of an oven than room. It’s a spacious cavern designed as a room with one entry point which two guards stand at inside, others waiting outside. Raksa joins you in the circle. “There are those in our tribe that want me to exterminate you on sight.” She pauses as she brings up a stone cup up to her mouth and drinks. “But you say you represent Rhashaak, share a common enemy. You also claim to be on a hunt for a shapechanger, that’s made their way down here too. If you are who you say you are, there shall be a challenge. Deadly, though if you are who you say you are, our lord will watch over you. If not..... “she pauses once more for a sip. “Recently the native beasts have become more aggressive to our clan. You shall go, kill the queen and bring back her silk pouch as proof. Once that is completed I will let you see your quarry you seek. The Shapechanger isn’t as clever as he thinks..... stinks of topside.”
Virnen's eyebrows go up at the mention of a beast. "This sounds like some sort of spider or insect. How many of these creatures would we be facing?" he asks the priestess in Draconic.
“Raksa understands your words, but don’t know spiders or insects. No one has ever entered their hive, it is unknown what you will face there. One thing to help is that they do not like sound.”
Jax would listen to the conversation... not understanding any of the draconic being spoken. "What is our mission?" Jax would ask looking to to Tara and Viren
Virnen turns to Jax and the rest of the group to translate. "They are willing to help us find our changeling if we help them by killing some sort of creature and bringing them her silk pouch."
Tara frowns faintly. "Or it uses silk to bind its prey," she murmurs, eyes thoughtful. "And it is a doppelganger, not a changeling," she adds absently.
"Do you know if these creatures have any natural resistances? Living near molten rock, I would assume they are not vulnerable to fire damage." Jax would ask aloud as he Stands in the circle, not bothering to sit on any of the pillows.
“You will find that most things down here are resistant to the flame. If you need to rest before you go, you may do so and I will take my leave. But be quick, my people are making preparations for the Karamona.” She takes a final sip before slipping her stone cup into her pocket. “When you are ready, you will be guided to the exit. Rhashaak blessing you you.”. And she leaves the room. The two guards let her pass and then stand vigil in their spots, staring forward.
Once Raksa is gone, Tara slumps slightly with relief and takes several deep breaths, muttering to herself under breath, so softly the others in the group can barely hear it, "I feel dirty. Rhashaak." She shakes her head and glances at the others. "If we rest, I will be better prepared, but we can go now if everyone else is ready."
Virnen lowers his hands. "Well done, Tara." he says to her in Common as the group leaves.

Do you suppose the doppelganger knows the language of these creatures? You know, when they change shape and all that, Lucky asks as they walk.

“If they have a problem with loud noise I think we will be able to take care of them quite well.”
For the first time in a while she actually seems to gain a bit of confidence.
