A pointing rat is definitely not the strangest thing he‘s seen here today. That it looks like an actual rat is, by comparison, much weirder. Well, if nothing’s right, think left, huh? He takes a moment to sign to the rat in thieves‘ cant: ‚Friend or foe?‘ and looks for any response.
Investigation or perception: on the rat, what it‘s doing 18
As the urchin sprints by, Kale is too busy to stop him, as he still has a guarded eye on the streetside. He does manage to say to the others „Someone try asking that boy? He‘s local, he may know something.“

Al-Ashari will try Invasive Thoughts on Urchin - to ask what he's got and why is he running, in hope, he would think it back automatically.
Urchin's thoughts back...
"Stole book from Great Library... Got to get it to book store to sell..."
The urchin stumbles and nearly goes down as he jerks in terror, bouncing off a wall as his eyes skitter all over the place, then he pushes off from the wall, prepared to run off again.
"here, just take it!" The urchin says, dropping the bag as he puts on a burst of speed, trying to escape, clearly scared out of his mind. (Bonus action Dash...) Let me know if you are still chasing him or if you stop with the dropped bag. He can dash as a bonus action each round.
The choker turns to its master... In deep speech...
Kale considers trying to dispel the mark for a moment, before shrugging off the idea. The rat seemed neither friendly nor unfriendly, but if it understood the kant as it seemed to, then it was imperative that he make contact with whomever was heading off the local guild chapter here - or risk stepping on some toes otherwise. Thinking optimistically, it could be a chance to find some allies in this strange city, or at the least resources. Thursday might have had a little of the guild look about her; Kale considered informing her of the rat‘s appearance. At any rate, if there was a thieves’ guild in the city, he certainly had their attention now. Deciding to leave things be for now, Kale stops marking the buildings with his spell.
Kale shakes his head at the choker, „Leave him for now.“
Whitegaze will stare after the boy for a moment before deciding that running in full plate was too much effort for this and turn back to Thursday, “What’d you find there pretty lady?”
"It's just a book the boy stole from Great Library and was going to sell in the book store,"pointed out Al-Ashari. "Hm... I am curious, can it be the book we are seeking for? One never knows."
"It's quite the book actually. Probably would fetch decent coin. Perhaps he should have taken a book on inconspicuousness and read up on that. This book would be useless to me, and for all of you it would be in your best interest to allow me to do what this book could teach you. I'll leave it up to anyone who objects but I suggest we do as this man was going to. Or you know... return it?" she shudders, "I suppose gaining some good will in this place wouldn't be so bad."

Whitegaze will glance at the book, “Nothing new in there, I say keep on to the auction house and go from there, no reason in getting off course now. If we come across either library or bookstore we can decide then what to do. But the book we’re looking for is at the auction house, supposedly.”
Soveliss raises an eyebrow in interest and asks, "If no one else has an interest in the book, may I read it? I take pleasure in reading and obtaining all matters of knowledge."
"I've no interest in keeping that book either... but I won't object if someone wants to try reading it. It looks a little threadbare, but on the off chance it didn't fall apart when you were done with it, you could still return it to this library afterwards. Of course, from the way that boy was running, there's a good chance the keepers of that library will come after us before then, and I'm inclined to think they won't listen to reasoned arguments if they find it in our hands no matter what we decide."
Eyeing Thursday, he waits for a discreet moment to catch her arm and smiles disarmingly. "Now, a beautiful woman like you wouldn't happen to have a moment to spare for me, would you?"
Leaning in he murmurs into her ear, "I've no idea if you're a shadowsister, nor do I particularly care in this situation. But I saw something along the streetside earlier as I was marking the buildings with the sign of the guild. A rat, which somehow placed an arcane mark onto me. It might have understood the kant, but whatever its intentions were, I couldn't tell. Watch your back; operating here as independents might bring some eyes upon those of our profession."
He turns his head slightly into Thursday's face with a considering smile. "I can't say I regret having to deliver this information to you in such a manner, though. It's no lie that you are astoundingly beautiful... particularly at this distance."
“As noted. The book may crumble once read. For now a bargaining chip. If it comes time where it is clear it is ours. It is yours to read.” She throws the urchins bag with the book in it over her shoulder.
Kale:
Thursday speaks in hushed tones, “I’m a darkwing. A rat understanding kant? That’s truly intriguing. We may want to pledge ourselves to a local guild sooner rather than later for our own survival.” She grabs your arm as you walk away and says in Kant with a wink, “I’m out of your league, pal.” And she walks off

As you head onward, under the bridge which archs overhead you come to...
A small collection of ruins is scattered ahead of you, with a tiny wooden sign reading “Fiddle & Blind’s Auctions” stuck to one wall and halfrotted away. Through the rain, you can see a small number of people milling about the area with vague intent.
This stone courtyard is scattered with broken stones and shattered dreams. Men and women lurk here against the walls and floor, eyeing you with suspicion.
They look poor, wretched and homeless. One has a sign, which reads “THE END COMES.”
You see a door leading into an intact building.
Outside you also see...
This was likely once an interior room, by the few decaying floorboards that can be seen at the edges. Stone walls have collapsed on all sides, and the ceiling is suspiciously absent. A small well lies in the middle of the room, with an amber plaque nailed to it.

In the bag you find...
Cassian’s Bedevilments
Cover made of Ragged black cloth, worn.
This is a book of diversions and legerdemain for children. It covers card and coin tricks, as well as the occasional knot.
(A character who reads this book gains proficiency in Sleight of Hand. This book can only confer its benefit to one character, and once only.)
