The morning before they leave, Winni spends some time preparing. First fiddling with his spell list, and then getting his tools prepared. He summons his eldritch cannon and places his infusion on his armor. He summons a bag of holding with his other infusion.
When he arrives to meet with the group, they see the short red-headed gnome wearing his chain shirt, holding his thieves tools in one hand, his woodcarver's tools hanging from his waist and a tiny shoulder mounted canon.
--- time skip to the mine ---
Winni looks around wide-eyed at the entranceway. He is impressed that the beams are holding and begins to wonder what is holding them together. (Arcana 8)
"Tine, Tarrkin... Were these beams like this when you were here last?"
He asks the group if they can take a break so he may ritual cast detect magic before they head in.
That morning Michael uses his artificer knowledge to make a pair of goggles of night and infuses them with power. He checks hte infusion on his repeating heavy crossbow and is pretty much ready to go. He heads out with Guardian padding at his side for the hike to the mines.
At the mines he takes int he beams and the mine tunnel with interest, allso checking to see what is keeping those supports together, as well as the likelyhood of them failing to do so anytime soon.
The day of the mine exploration, Tarkkin wakes up from his tree hammock early and double checks his gear before heading over the road for the mine early. Once there, he starts sharpening his arrows before someone shows up.
Tarkkin looks at the new changes to the cave and wonders if it was hard for the elementals to do this. Hearing someone direct a question at him, Tarkkin snaps his head in their direction and shakes his head, "No.....but we are talking about elementals....spirits of the earth at that. Not to hard to think that they could make these changes in a week."
He then looks to the rest of the party and clears his throat, "U-umm...I can scout ahead for everyone....if you'd like....I know how to be real quiet and am good at keeping myself alive if I have to....I mean...I'd like to help and I know I can do a good job."
Falros joins the group heading out carrying the same pack he arrived with, looking much the same as always, though you can see him practicing gestures and murmuring phrases to refresh his mind with the combat spells he might need. He’d also have had his raven scouting the area along the path while they traveled.
Arriving at the mine, he’d stop just inside the entrance, “Good to be out of that blasted rain. If you’d like to scout ahead, Tarkkin, feel free, just don’t get too far ahead, and remember, this may be a trial of some kind, but we’re still here to make friends, not enemies.” If Tarkkin does scout ahead, Falros will have his raven follow along, ready to come back if there’s trouble.
Dainar was stoic and mostly focused, greeting everyone with a nod. He looks about often as they make the trek to the mines and once there pays close attention to the outcomes of Michael and Winni's investigations.
"I do believe that we should have at least one scout ahead. Be careful and although I do not doubt your ability to defend yourself, that is not a reason to fight alone. I will lead the main squad."
Letting out what sound like gurgled clicks/chirps, Tarkkin throws a fist over his chest, "L-leaf-Imean-LEAVE IT TO ME!" Shaking his head, he tugs on his hood before heading into the cave. Upon entering the cave, he opts to get down on all fours and starts climbing along the walls and ceiling. He found this was usually the safest way to travel since most people weren't as nimble as him and often didn't leave traps there.
The White Wolf's preparations consist of donning his chain mail under his cloak and adding his hunting crossbow to his pack with some reluctance.
At the mine, the White Wolf looks around them in wonder. Not at home in mines, he's happy to follow Dainar's lead. He wishes Tarkkin good luck, and mumbles a prayer as he leaves.
Tine had prepared for the day by putting on her gear and doing her hair up in a ponytail, a change from the free flowing hair people were use to seeing on her.
Tine just smiles as she walks by the group looking at the pillar "No these are new..." she just lifts her hands to her lips "Hi Earth Elementals, we are back for your trial like you asked. Have you thought about our offer to join the town?"she just waits silently for a response or answer.
The sticky material holding the cave supports together looks like a somewhat brighter, lighter, more amber colored version of clay. Winni and Micheal, you realize this to be Primal Clay. An uncommon but not quite rare crafting and potion regent. Great for being sticky and for having trace amounts of Primordial Energies. It's a byproduct of many residents of the Plane of Earth... let's just say the less said about it's creation the better. Still very useful, bulk quantities might fetch a low price on the market.
You can say with confidence that the supports for the mine will hold, bar some catastrophic event.
Tarkkin and FalRaven, in scouting ahead you come across what was at some point may have been a security checkpoint or mine overseer-er break-room. It's somewhat luxurious, or was at some point. Carpeting, fully wooden ceilings and walls, a large poker table and chairs, and a small desk with the tattered remains of paperwork and stationary. Oh, also a very big spider infestation. And when I say a big infestation, I don't mean the number of the swarm, I mean the members. You count perhaps 5 Giant Spider's, of normal coloration and traits for what you would assume a giant spider to have, but also 1 Strange Spider. It has many glowing blue marks like tattoo's all over it's body, and pale white skin everywhere else. The weird thing about the skin is that it also seems to pulsate along with it's glowing blue mark's, and when it pulsates it's white body seems to go translucent; see through to an extent. This Strange Spider seems to be the leader of the small group, they seem busy making the starting's of a new colony here. The only other way to get deeper into the mines seems to be through the other side of the room, directly through this group.
Aeron, the drop off of Kar's was a bit later then you would have liked, and you had the fear of running late and holding everyone back from these trials. What you said to Val Frizzle was rushed and awkward, and she seemed to have completely misinterpreted it as you confirming that she would be a good person to take care of Kars in the future, which she does agree to do if you find yourself needing her help again. Unless you really wanted to make things awkward, it seems as if through today wasn't your day to confess you undying love.
Tine, there's a hanging silence in the air to your proposed question. No mystical writing on the nearby stones, no booming voice, just the beating downpour of the rain at your backs.
Tarkkin nudges the raven and nods back towards the entrance, trying to silently relay for it to tell the party what they found. Once the Raven gets going, Tarkkin looks for anything of importance or that could potentially give the group an advantage. Anything from a flask of oil to maybe a loose ceiling bar. He also keeps a hand on his blades, knowing that his bow wouldn't help much here if he was attacked suddenly.
There is a few oil lanterns glowing dimly on the walls and central table, though this room seems slightly dimmer then the entrance hallway. It’s a somewhat spacious room for what amounts to a break room, but rather well built. No loose ceiling bars or what have you. The only thing that may be advantageous for the group is the fact that the majority of the nest building seems to be on the other side of the room, so you all won’t be immediately ambushed should you decide to enter. The room only has the two doorways, so for all intents and purposes it seems like you guys are at a rather strategic disadvantage.

Tarkkin takes a small breath before doing something he knows would be stupid, but would help out the party.....kinda.
Taking out an unlit torch from his bag, he readies his tinderbox to light the torch and throw it at the spider nest, with luck the spiders would chase him in rage and bring the fight outside.
(throwing an improvised weapon at the nest with the hopes of setting it on fire. When he does this, Tarkkin with BA Dash back towards the entrance.)
A lot of things happen all at once. Tarkkin, you successfully invoke the full wrath and attention of 6 giant spiders through burning their nest. If you want to roll me an athletics check to see how close you can make it to your teammates before the spiders catch up to you would be great, since your about 200ish feet away from the entrance of the tunnel.
Falros, since Tarkkin didn't inform you of his plan beforehand, you report this new development to your teammates as Tarkkin is running for his life back to you guys.
Micheal and Winni, you two try to identify the lead spider but the chaoticness of the moment hinders your recall. It could be many things, an Ice Spider with nasty cold magic, an Phase Spider that basically teleports between planes, some type of ghost spider that can only be hit by magic. So many horrible possibilities, you’ll need more data to make an accurate conclusion.
Tine just looks around as she follows her companions trying to gather the various condition of the cave. It isn't until she sees Tarkkin running back at them that she gulps reaching for her rapier "We might have trouble."

After seeing Tarrkin running towards them, Winni would have prepared to attack the spiders, assuming they give chase. The first one into his vision would get the following. (Both have 120 ft range)

Falros would cast mage armor on himself as he relayed the information from the raven. Seeing Tarrkin come running at them trailing spiders, he'd back up a few steps to make sure the more armored folk would be in the front, and prepare chill touch to hit the first spider in range.
