You follow the miners road that exits the village to the south. After passing a few farms and fields, maybe a mile away from the village, the road disapears. After centuries of being unused, nature claimed back what it owns. High grass dominates the landscape north and west of you, but where the hills start to rise east and south of you, thickets of trees become more and more dominant. You can already see the windmill on top of the hill, that Sister Garaele was describing.
Otrov when you are within a mile of the windmill, at the bottom of the hill, you notice a large flying creature circling around the mill, it is way to big for a normal bird. The three of you decide to increase the speed while for a bit while climbing up the hill. Because there are more trees here now, you loose eyecontact with your target. From time to time you catch a glimps through the treetops.
Around 600 feet away, you slow down for a moment do decide how to aproache the rest of the way. You are under cover of forrest at the moment, but you noticed earlier that the top of the hill is free of trees, so the last 200 feet you will be hiking up the hillside without much cover.

"best be getting ta da end of these trees and see what dat flying creature is up to." Dain puts in, continuing to press forward to get a lay of the land past the trees. He will stop just inside the trees to see what he can see...
You see a large lion with dragonwings and a spiky tail on the roof of the windmill, reaching and feeling into one of the upper windows as if looking for someting.
Relgalyn, it is a Manticore. The storries you know mention that it can fly and shoot dangerous spikes from its tail. It would take maybe a dozen goblins to surprise it and overwhelm it in a cave. Here out in the open, those goblins would be his dinner. You also remember that manticores are as smart as the average goblin too.
Assuming Relg tells us this, Otrov would suggest some sort of diversion or distraction to get the beast away from the house. “Or we could wait! Or we could write a note and I could maybe shoot it into the house! We don’t know if she is still in there!”
Relg would have passed on the information, "Unless you're planning on offering yourself as lunch, I don't think a distraction is going to work, and that'd be a very lucky shot to reach inside the house from this far. So either we figure out a way to kill that thing, or we return to town and tell her she got eaten."
"Yes, a lucky shot for many but it is well within range of Beau here," Otrov grins as she pats the crossbow at her side. "I don't know too much about these types of things, I've always been a city halfling - so I trust what you say is true. But that looks fearsome! Can we beat it? Do we have any illusions or magics that might help?" Otrov will wait for suggestions from the others, who seem more experienced with wild animals like this...
"I think I can possibly arrange a small distraction, I don't know how effective it'll be and it'll only work for a short time. If I can get it close and distracted, do you think the two of you could kill it quick?" Relg starts thinking about what a manticore might eat, besides anything that moves.
"Well, we ave ta get da beast away from da mill." Dain says with a glance around. "Mayhaps best ta get it ta come ta us, since da trees will limit its flight."

"I can bring it to the treeline, I hope, and possibly into the trees, we'll just need to stay hidden so it notices my illusion and not us instead. I just need a suggestion of what a manticore might find appetizing, suggestions?" Relgalyn will start looking around for a good ambush site near or just inside the treeline.
"Herbalist?"Otrov adds with a grin. "Just kidding! Well, that thing seems pretty tough so I think all three of us will have to take it down. Ambush is good - I can hide pretty well and I can sneak attack it! Let's see...I also have some rope that could help. Can these things do magic? Do we want to attack it in close?"
"Me thinks hit it with all we can at range, then finish it off when it gets in close." Dain says, holding up his crossbow. "Can lure it with whatever ye got in mind, then, as it approaches, hit em hard with everything ye got..."

"Maybe another manticore?"Otrov suggests. "Maybe a reeeeeeal pretty one?!"
Otrov nods at Dain's suggestion. When everything is ready, Otrov will find a good spot to hide in waiting for the manticore, Beau the Crossbow ready and loaded. Otrov suggests getting some sort of cross-fire action happening to maximize damage to the beast, but will defer to Dain and Relg in the end; Otrov has hunted people before, not beasts.

At the moment the Manticore is occupied with whatever or whoever it is trying to get from inside the building. The trees and bushes around you are decent cover (1/2), if you would like more cover you can simply retreat 10 feet deeper into the forrest, but that would give the manticore 1/2 cover from you too. As far as you can tell the trees surround the whole hill. The windmill is on the west side of the hill, with some old broken walls and a crumbled chimney next to it. There is some kind of fence around the windmill and the old ruin. You don‘t see a gate at the moment, but an elf could easily jump it, while a dwarf or halfling may need to climb it. East of the fence the hill rises a little bit higher and there are some odd stone formations on top. You may be able to circle around the hill, climb the top of the hill hiden from the windmill and aproach from the top, but you can not see from here how difficult it would be or how much cover you would have.
"We can't let em get ta the herbalist..." Dain says, moving forward a bit. "We got ta do something now, or da task we were given will be for naught." He readies his crossbow to shoot at the creature if no one has gotten a better idea in place before too much longer.
Relgalyn will stay in cover, but turn to Dain, "Count to ten, then break a branch or something natural sounding please." He'll then gently strum his lute creating a quiet series of discordant harmonies that grate the ears, and also apparently reality as the image of a large elk appears at the edge of the tree line, moving slowly away from the trees, grazing, as it apparently doesn't yet notice the manticore.
"Dat thing be 300 feet away..." Dain says. "He's not gonna hear a branch breaking at dat distance." With a frown he picks up a rock and walks over to stand behind a tree. Taking the rock he slams it into the tree's trunk several times, causing a loud crack sound to be heard. As soon as the creature looks towards them he will stop.
Everyone roll a stealth check with advantage please.
The manticore stops what it is doing and stares in your direction, or maybe at the illusion. It carefully jumps and glides down from the roof and crouches down in front of the windmill, carefully watching. Suddenly it starts to sprint before it makes a long leap, spreads it wings and covers half the distance to you and the elk within the blink of an eye.
