Tarina notices the badge on your cloak and visibly relaxes. She pushes back her chair and stands up from the table and stands and heads towards the private dining room to the west calling back over her shoulder as she beckons you to follow âSorry, boys, Iâll have to come back and take your money later. Keep the dice warm for me.â
Mendax moves over to the windows where he can keep an eye on Con, Kes, and Tarina and is preparing to stop her in case she tries to make a quick escape.
Tarina pulls a chair out, spinning it around as she does so, and sits in it hanging her arms over the back of the chair. âSo did Zodge send you boys? You here to pump me for information?â She leans back and spreads her arms out âOr are you here to pump me for something else? She looks at Kes âYouâre so pretty Iâm not sure whoâd be doing the pumping haha!â then at Con âBut you! This guy pumps, I can tell! No? Not today? Maybe later? Hahahaâ and finally at Mendax âOkay, fine, the dwarf then, but if you two perverts want to watch itâll cost extra!â Tarina laughs heartily and finally quiets down ready to listen to what you have to say. Con she seems relaxed and relieved that youâre members of the Fist.
Con looks at Tarina, pulls up a chair for himself, sits down and leans back, letting his eyes wander over her. Yeah, Captain Zodge says you owe him a favour. I'm Con, this is Mendax, Vin, and the kid. So, how do you know our fine captain?
Mendax ignores Tarina's comments by looking away. During Con's parlay with the spy Mendax keeps an eye out for anyone who seems aware that Tarina is talking to them, and if they are in a private room he'll post up outside and keep an eye out for anyone suspicious.
Tarina laughs again. Yeah, I suppose you could say I owe Zodge a favor... of course the opposite could be said as well. How do I know him? Letâs just say that in my line of business palms need greasing, and they donât get much greasier than Zodgeâs. So, what can I do for you?
Kes, Tarina smiles when she sees you blush and gives you a wink.
Mendax, you donât see anything out of the ordinary in the common room, everyone seems to be minding their own nuisances. Members of the Flaming Fist having private conversations is nothing out of the ordinary.
(Sorry for not posting for so long guys, had no computer over the weekend)
As soon as they entered the tavern, Vin does as she normally does in these situations and attempts to hide herself in Con's shadow. She stays nearby, sitting beside Con at the bar and straining to take in the conversation and banter in the main room as the others converse and drink. As the party turns their attention upstairs she once again stays close behind Con, wrapping her cloak tighter around herself as she takes in the seedy characters up here. She rolls her eyes and scoffs, "Men..." as Kes and Mendax banter on the stairs.
When they enter the private room, Vin stands to the side of the door with her back to it, alert for any commotion outside the door. As Tarina teases the boys Vin just shakes her head, trying to hide her smirk with a fake scowl.
The Captain wants us to deal with some people that are giving the him... that is to say, giving the city some trouble. Con leans forward again, trying to hold the woman's attention. So what do you know about the Dead Three?
Tarina sees Vinâs barely concealed amusement and says âSee, this one knows what Iâm talking about!â. But when con mentions the Dead Three her jovial nature vanishes. Her eyes flash to the door and then the window before she seems to come to terms with her inability to escape the situation. Her tone becomes serious as she speaks âThe Dead Three? I know enough to say that itâs a fool who crosses them, and that those fools that do often end up dead... but I find myself in a bit of a situation. So if you help me, Iâll help you. Some former associates of mine have tracked me down to Baldurâs Gate and itâs only a matter of time before the find me. If you can help me take care of them Iâll tell you all I know of the Dead Three.â
My lady, says Con in a low serious voice, his eyes locked upon hers. You are a citizen of this city and a friend and help to the Flaming Fist. If some... criminal scum are causing you any kind of trouble, then it is our honour and duty to lend you whatever assistance we can. He leans back and gives her a sly smile.
Tarina makes face grows puzzled during your speech, Con, but at the end she laughs and points at you with a begrudging smile. âYou! Youâre goodâ she looks at the others âHeâs good!â She laughs again and claps her hands. âAlright! Down to business! Thereâs a man named Dead-Eye Cadagris coming looking for me, and probably not alone. You all help me get rid of him and his cronies in a permanent fashion and Iâll tell you all you want to know.â She leans back and spreads her hands. âWe have a deal?â
Con looks to the others, questioning. He doesn't have any problem with putting this guy down, but he's never quite sure what Vin and Mendax are able to square with their consciences and their Gods.
"Well, we've basically been deputized by Captain Zod to keep the peace, especially from followers of the Dead Three. Is this Dead-Eye Cadagris fellow part of the Dead three?"
"Either way, if he comes trying to do you harm, it is our deputized duty to bring him to justice."
She laughs âDead Three? No, just a bad man coming to kill me and he wonât stop till one of us is dead. So this âbringing him to justiceâ business ainât gonna cut it. A knife twixt the ribs is the only justice thatâs going to serve in this instance, Iâm afraid.
"When is he coming here? How about we wait for him, and when he comes, we have a little chat. If he doesn't want to go peacefully, well then I guess we take him, dead or alive, as they say."
Mendax stands firm while keeping an eye out for anyone trying to do anything sneaky. When Con and Tarina finish with the offer he looks over and sees Con eyeing him for an answer. Mendax just shrugs, knowing that they really don't have any choice in the matter. That they are just pawns now in some greater chess game played by the gods and mortals.

Con follows Tarina, not entirely trusting her but playing the game for the moment.

(Is she planning to run? Slit our throats? Is she an imposter?)
Kestrell follows the rest into the private room. So far, remembering what Mendax said and staying quiet.
He will take a seat if Tarina is sitting, otherwise he will stand by a chair.

Con studies Tarina, gauging her reaction to the kids' suggestion, and waiting for Vin and Mendax to weigh in. Insight 9
