A look of distaste crosses Vin's face, but she simply shrugs as the others look to her. "More killing..." she says with a sigh and a shake of her head. "Well, we'll just have to do what we can."
Tarina snorts at Kes’ suggestion “You can try to talk to him if you like, but he’ll stick a sword in you first chance he gets. I was shipmates with him for years, I know him, know he’s a horrible bastard. Now that he’s killed captain Sessprin, he’s captain of the Uncivil Serpent, my old ship, he knows he can take his revenge. Well, hey, there’s another bonus for ya, you wipe out Dead-Eye and the rest and you can lay claim to the ship!”
Tarina looks at Vin “That’s the way of it, isn’t it, honey? Killing and more killing till the killings done.” Con you don’t pick up anything terribly insightful from Tarina.
Con nods in agreement at Tarina's attitude to killing. Right enough. But, I'm not much of a sailor. And I don't fancy taking this guy out on his home turf... er, boat. He shrugs. Here, then? Fellow downstairs won't like that kind of trouble in his establishment.
Tarina snorts “this is Baldur’s Gate, friend, not Silverymoon. Alan and the staff won’t get involved unless you go after them. As long as the place doesn’t get burned down they don’t give a toss. Hells, you might be able to bribe or convince some of the locals to fight on your behalf, no one knows Dead-Eye around here.”
Tarina considers “Shouldn’t be long now, I know the Serpent came into port two days ago so he should track me here any day now. I’d imagine not much more than a day or two.”
Con scowls at Tarina, disliking being laughed at. But he relaxes his face; Best behaviour,he thinks to himself. So, if he's coming this way, then we're sticking around here? He looks back at Tarina. How does a man pass the time round here?
As Tarina opens her mouth to speak, an ethereal voice begins to sing. The song and voice both are hauntingly beautiful, even those of you who don’t understand eleven are moved by heart-wrenching lamentation of the melody.
Kes these are the Elven lyrics you hear:
O sing a song of Elturel
Of water, woods, and hill
The sun dawns on her ruddy cliffs
And fields green and still.
This land of long-abiding joy
Home of the strong and brave
Renowned by all, across the realms,
And never once a slave.
O sing a song of Elturel
When foes are at her door
Her fields torn by cloven feet
From some infernal shore.
Arise the mighty Hellriders
Take up your swift, keen swords
Then charge into the hellish fray
And scatter devil hordes.
O sing a song of Elturel
And when the night does fall
Sleep safe beneath Companion’s light
Until the dawn does call.
We’re bound by mortal covenant
That only ends with death
And so we’ll sing of Elturel
Until our final breath.
Tarina is silent for a moment after the song ends. “That’s not the one she usually sings... that’s strange, I’ve never heard of her singing a different song before.”
“That’s the Elfsong, boy, why the tavern has its name. A ghost of some long dead love lorn elf haunts this place, she sings a song about her lost love every now and then. I don’t speak elf, but I’ve heard it often enough to know that wasn’t it...”
Kes, you know that Zodge mentioned Elturel and the Hellriders when he was talking about the riots. Elturel was the holy city that was recently destroyed in some kind of mysterious cataclysm and with that 15 you know the Hellriders are an old order of knights from Elturel.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Mendax, keeping out of the conversations, continues to just keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary, and after hearing that this Dead-Eyes is out for Tarina's blood he's now eyeing everyone suspiciously.
Vin finds herself entranced by the music, swaying in spot somewhat as the song goes on. After it ends, she shakes herself out of her reverie. "That was beautiful," she says, "haunting... but beautiful."
Vin shakes her head to get the cobwebs out, and looks to her party members and Tarina. "So, it seems we don't have much time," she begins. "Any ideas on how we should prepare? You say the barkeep won't mind a fight, but I can't imagine he'll be too pleased if we start boarding up the windows and such. This may not be the best place for a battle; what do you think, Con?"
Mendax, as far as you can tell there’s been no change in the general mood of the tavern.
Tarina shakes her head as well “No, Alan won’t let you board up windows and such, but you needn’t worry about starting a fight, Dead-Eye will do that for you. You’ll be able to claim self defense. And Dead-Eye will be expecting just me, so you’ll have that advantage here.”

"So, we just hang out here and wait for this Dead-Eye fellow to show up tonight or tomorrow?"
If he's fool enough to come here expecting no resistance, then this is as fine a place for a battle as anywhere else I guess, Con replies. He's utterly uninterested in some ghost and her singing, though he finds it a bit creepy. He turns to Tarina: He really doesn't expect you to put up a fight? That seems... odd.
Tarina thinks for a moment “Elturel is the holier-than-thou city that’s just got swallowed up into the earth or whatever. The Companion is the fake sun they made to keep themselves safe from undead at night, and the Hellriders are the ones who rode into hell way back to bring the fighting to the devils. Yes, I’d say just wait here for him.” She looks at Con. “Dead-Eye’s probably not expecting to find me so soon, so he won’t have all his muscle with him. He knows I’ll fight like a cornered rat but he won’t expect me to have back up, so he’ll probably only bring three or four with him.”

"The ghost of an elf haunts this tavern and sings a song every night? That is kind of spooky. And sad. Why did she change songs?"
Kestrell will relate what he can remember of the song to Tarina and the group.
