"Flame lady lied to you. Back in town I wanted to help you three get back home - and I won't leave you all to die on the way. Here."
Thalion casts Goodberry and holds out ten of the small magical fruits for the kenku to take. "These will heal your wounds and keep you and your siblings sustained for your journey," he says with a solemn nod.
The Kenku accepts the berries with a bowed head, and feeds one to her brother who wakes up with a start. He tries to get up, but his sister stops him.
"No, rest. They help."
She looks over to where Grin is examining the third Kenku. "Our sister?" She asks hopefully.
(Grin, make a Medicine check -- someone can assist her and give her advantage as well).
Aleksei watches this with a skeptical eye. "Yes, well -- when you are done playing nursemaid to creatures who tried to murder us, we can head down into town. There will be others, after this assassin. She was an agent of that tiefling you mentioned earlier. You called him Secrecy, but when I knew him, he was Reynauld Capet. And he is the head of the secret police. Responsible for every missing magic user in the kingdom. Responsible for a number of "accidents" that claimed the lives of King Brocc's critics and enemies foreign and domestic. He is, without a doubt the most dangerous man in Languedoc."
Nevlav was cleaning the head of his pick as he listened to the group do their own thing. He perked up as Aleksei spoke, "I had a feeling that is who that was. Seems to me that they are permitted by the kingdom but it is strange that they sought to kill you when you could hold the key to curing so many."
Yoric will help with trying to patch up the Kenku. “Hearts and minds, Doctor. I’m sure this Tiefling understands that. But it’s odd Admiral Flintlock would work with him on this mission then, having such different goals and methods, eh?”
"Yes Doctor" Alden asks, his ire flaring a bit as he phases the question "Why would the head of the Kings Secret Police want you dead and be prowling about a meeting in a secluded location in Valance?"
"They must have heard to rumors of your location, because that was provided to us by the Admiral." Alden states. "Why wait till a small band of adventurers sought you out on a supposed mission for the king?" Alden seems to ask himself more than Aleksei.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Aleksei moves to the chest at the foot of his bed and slips something out of the chest into his bag.

Sleight of Hand - 5
Attempting to steathily pull something out of the chest and slip it into his satchel, Dr. Aleksei instead drops the item onto the floor. It is a book and as he drops it, it opens to the front page. Those of you close enough (probably Alden and Nevlav) see that on the first page is a fancy inscription in Elvish, written in a bold ostentatious script. Alden, as you read Elvish, you can make it out as "THE PROPERTY OF A. FELIX..." before the Druid snaps it off the floor and puts it in his bag.
Embarrassed or possibly angry at his error, he snaps in irritation at Nevlav's question. "How do you expect me to know? I've been living on a mountain for fifteen years. Maybe the Admiral's politics have changed in that time. The Flintlock I... had heard of had no love for the secret police. Or maybe the power dynamics in the capital have changed?" He sighs impatiently as he moves over to the workspace now and picks up the tome on curses and adds it to the little pack he's putting together.
Hearing Alden's question about mine operator, he guffaws. " Lady Raskiel? I have no love for that creature -- her husband, Bors, and I were comrades during the war. But she is something else. Outwardly charming, but you can see the gears working in her brain. I always assumed she had killed Bors for the mine, but could never prove it. She's merely a symptom of those hags' wickedness and their effect on this kingdom, not the root."
Addressing the female Kenku, which is leaning over Grin and making concerned chirps as the little halfling warlock tends to her sister, he says "I doubt I will be back to this place anytime soon. If you and your kin wish to stay the night and attempt to find the pass in the morning, you may. But take my advice -- keep that gun ready to fire and lock the bloody door."
Alden, you find a little container of lead balls for the Genasi's pistol (there are 4 balls left) and a letter that appears to be in some sort of code. (Attempting to decode it without the key (which you didn't find), would be a straight INT check with a very hard DC). That appears to be all you can find on her.
(The Genasi's pistol is from the war era, about fifteen years ago, and is a black-powder style flintlock -- despite this it appears as though its in good working order. Alden you would know this as a detective -- these older style black powder pistols are quite common among criminals as there are a number of them floating around from the war years and are untraceable. To buy one of the newer revolver style pistols, you must have a special permit from the government and be entered into a registry that spans the entire kingdom; new guns are tracked quite closely.)
(Grin, you claim the Genasi's flintlock pistol and the 4 lead balls that come with it. I'll drop it in your inventory and explain how it works. Did you want to roll Medicine with advantage to determine if you can stabilize the Kenku whose skull was cracked by the ape?)
You manage to stabilize the third Kenku and immediately her sister is on her, fussing and cooing, shoving a Goodberry into her beak.
She grasps your hands Grin and says "Thank ye. Thank ye." Her brother, who was the most aggressive to all of you keeps his eyes on the ground, and kind of kicks his talons into the dirt.
"We are sorry."He finally says, adding, "The woman has powerful friends. She got us on the train easily. Be careful." He joins his sister in fussing over the third one, who has just come to consciousness. The three of them start chatting in a mix of caws, mimicking sounds, and hand gestures.
It reads- "Sorry you got dragged into this, please accept this gift as a token of apology."
She'll then hand the note and the book she was reading on the train to the male Kenku.
"Fa ya truh-bells."
GM
The note reads to the Kenku "Take this to Madame Bristle's in <insert nearest train station with a library or book store> she'll take care of you." (OOC adding a secret family of *****-voodoo-librarians to backstory if allowed. )
Thalion sighs. Wounded, and now helping the ones who did the wounding, he was ready for some rest. Before he does, however, he turns toward the kenku and says, "That assassin - and whoever it is exactly that hired them - are my enemy, not kenku coerced into service. We all deserve to choose our paths."
He shoots a suspicious glance at Aleksei but otherwise seems unaware of the book he fumbled. With a shrug he walks over to a corner of the room and plants himself there for the night, shortswords and bow beside him as he gets the scant few hours of meditation that all elves needed to be fully rested.
“I know I was the one who said to help them out, but... are we really sleeping here with the very people who just attacked us?” Yoric is a bit rattled.

"Flame lady say she take us to Seewaldt. See our family. She say we do a great service for our King and country, darling."'
At the end, the kenku's voice eerily mirrors what you heard from the Assassin. It's clear that those are definitely her words.

"So they use us to ferret you out?"
Alden pauses then asks:
"Is Lady Raskiel an ally to you?"

Alden will make a note of the druid's book for later.
Seeing no one else doing so, Alden will search the dead assassin's body.
Investigation: 15...sorry....its +6 not +4 to roll so its a 9
