As you all come together, in the main chamber, you notice ahead of you, a large rotating platform via which the mine workers could change which tracks the mine carts ran on. The platform is currently in the vertical position, creating a completed track that leads from the mine entrance into the deepest part of the mine. Where you are at right now (Point 1 on the map), there are a number of trails you could follow. Paths extend to the West, Northwest, North, Northeast, and East. Behind you, to the South, is the way you came in and a mine cart, still stacked with ore, seemingly abandoned after the alarm was sounded.
Nevlav nods along to Yoric's suggestion, "Aye, left it is. You might be right about the newest site being the cause of this latest disruption. You two," he gestures to Alden and Thallion, "can take point if you wish whle the rest can group up behind me." The paladin's tone is a bit bossy but there is a hint of 'faking it' in there. He draws his pick and waits to follow fifteenish feet behind the leading scouts.
The silence in the area around Alden allows the half-elf to pinpoint the sound of the scratching. It seems to be coming from much further away in the deepest part of the mine. You also pick up, much closer, the sounds of someone whimpering down one of the paths straight ahead. That sound does not sound threatening -- in fact, the exact opposite.
Otherwise, everything in the mine seems normal. There is a earthy, metallic smell in the air, and looking around, other than a few extinguished torches lying closer to the entrance, this part of the mine is exactly how you would imagine an ore mine to look.
Alden and Thalion follow the sound, walking along the mine cart tracks until they reach the the supply room to the right and the miner's lockers to the left. The whimpering is definitely coming from the left and as you walk in, Thalion immediately notices that one of the locker doors is not closed properly, as though something had been awkward stuffed into the locker that was too big to fit.
As Thalion opens the door, Chief Corin Brightaxe, Captain Graddor's right-hand man, tumbles to the dirt floor. The dwarf is covered in sweat and shivering. He has a large gash across the chest that is bleeding quite badly. His eyes are as wide as dinnerplates and he is muttering to himself over and over again.
"No....no... I won't go back in there. Get me out... this place is 'aunted, it is. There's summat ter'ble back there. Please don't make me go back, pleasepleasepleaseplease."
Reaching out for the nearest thing, he grabs Thalion's boots and wraps himself around the elf's feet and calves, and begins muttering again.
"Don't go in there...it's 'orrible, it is. That thing, it will get you. It will look right into your very soul."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thalion looks shocked to see the familiar face burst from the locker and cling to him for dear life, but gathers his wits quickly enough. He reaches down and calmly but firmly pries the dwarf from his boots. He takes a step back so he can think for a moment.
(Nature check to see if I know anything about this creature.)
Alden watches the exchange for a moment then says: "You need to get up Brightaxe." he explains, "We are going to get you to the entrance but, you got to tell us what you faced down here and where are the rest of you?"
Alden tugs at Brightaxe's shoulder to get him to stand.
Nevlav moves forward as they see who it is and that the dwarf is badly wounded. He takes out his healer's kit and begins administering to the dwarf to try and get him able to move easier, "Tell us what you found man, you have to give us more than that!
(I know it doesn't heal people but still, it is polite lol)
Chief Brightaxe's ramblings make no sense, so without any more information, Thalion, you can't really make sense of what he's describing.
After a few minutes, though, the combined efforts of Thalion, Alden, and Nevlav pay off and the young dwarf stands under his own power. Despite this, he is still shaking and pale as he talks.
"Gods it's 'orrible, sir. There's some sort of nasty bug down there the followers of Nuitari let out. Spits acid, it does, and its melting all the ore in the mine. That's not the worst part of it, though. There's summat commanding the bug. It 'as an awful voice it does. And its stare..." He falls silent and shivers, then with a start grips his head with both hands and moans."Oh Gods, the Captain and Maharal. They're still in there. There 'ave to be dead. I got to leave, I do. I can't stand to be 'ere one minute more. Leave, sirs. If you don't it will get you too." Stumbling away from you, now, the dwarf moves quickly but unsteadily towards the exit.
"Spits acid... When we find this beast, perhaps striking from a distance will be the most sound strategy?"
He grins and claps a calloused palm on Yoric's shoulder reassuringly, saying, "Worry not, my halfling friend! We'll lay this monster low and save the Captain and Maharal both."

Yoric calls out loudly. “Let’s head to the left, first.”

Grinhilla moves to follow Nevlav in a mocking military style, saluting every step.

Alden
Alden will turn to the group, point to his ear then down the direction he hears the whimpering. Then he will move silently down towards the sound.

Yoric follows slowly, whispering to Nevlav and Grin “we can come back.”

Nevlav frowned a little and looked a little defeated but he perked up. He followed along as he planned, a fair distance from those in front.
Thalion stares quizzically at the locker and without much thought reaches out and opens it as curiosity takes over.
