Other than the pigs, the farm is silent. Rhok notices some corpses between the burned barn and the farmhouse, two orcs and five humans. There are no weapons among them, but their wounds indicate that they died fighting.
Sabastian looks into the house through the windows on both floors. There are multiple orcs just resting in there and drinking beer, not even paying attention to the windows, two of them sleep on the second floor. The house has two doors on opposite sides and a trapdoor next to one of them, leading to a basement.
Lothlién is visibily shaken, and angry. "Filthy pieces of garbage, these Orcs... Do you believe we can trap do something to get them in numbers, like trapping them inside and setting fire to the whole place?"
"I could easily stand in a doorway and yell at them all, see if they chase into the building, and I can slip out the back. Barricade the doors and light it up....However, do we know if the owners of the Ranch are still living? I'm sure they'd rather the Orcs be eliminated with as little damage to the property as ppossible" Rhokreplies
"hmm....we could try to sneak into the cellar and see if we can get under them, and sneak into the house that way. Perhaps pick one off at a time" Rhok ponders
Xarrothgoes to agree with Rhok'sstatement but then the sight of the attack becomes clear and he is rendered quiet as they asses. The idea of exacting justice on the orcs now holds appeal.
The burden intensifies as the idea of risking prime opportunity for justice to rain, but... "We should confirm there are no survivors. Can your owl companion do a more thorough search?"
“Sabastian isn’t going to be any good at looking around inside the house.” Lia says with a shake of her head. “He’s done all he’s likely to be able to do as far as scouting goes.” She nods towards the trap door.” I say we go in there and see if htere is a way up into the house from below.” She moves to the door and tries to lift it.
Keeping out of sight from the windows, Lia approaches the trap door. It's handles are secured with a rope that she quickly unties. A steep staircase leads to a dirt floor cellar. Walls of mortared stone, and an eight-foot-high plank ceiling braced by wooden pillars. Tied to a chair is a large figure with a burlap sack pulled over his head. Shelves along the walls are lined with skulls made of butter and protected by a thin coating of wax.
"Big Al? shhhh, we're here to help, we've been sent from Phandalin to help with the Orcs. They seem to be above us at the moment" Rhok whispers quietly to the tied up person
Taking the cover off you find an aged human "thank you" he greets you in a weary voice "those orcs took us by surprise, I'm glad that Damien got to Phandalin with our message."
It takes you a minute to untie him "I see that you are armed, would you have a sword or crossbow to lend me? I want to reclaim my home." He looks beaten and is barely standing, but there is fire behind his eyes
"Here, have my crossbow" Lothliénsays as he lends his equipment. "Do you know how many orcs are there? Are they well-armored and organized, or just a bunch of bandits?"
“We’d be glad to help you reclain your home, but please help us with some sort of plan for doing so.” Lia says with a glance to the released ranch owner.
Big Al thanks Lothlién for the crossbow and adds "I didn't see any of them acting as a leader, and I've heard them drinking my beer and eating my food since yesterday. Those orcs were using bone axes and spears when they attacked us. I don't know why they took me prisoner instead of just killing me."
He thinks for a second and continues "I believe we can take them by surprise, or block one of the doors and attack through the other one to make sure none escapes." The farmer is barely containing his anger as he speaks and keeps his eyes on the stairs looking out for orcs.
"Not only ready, Im eager" Lothlién states. "Which dooe should we block? I think the the trap door we used to come in is a good idea - it'll be harder to force it open from below. Also, if they try to escape tehy'll be trapped in the cellar, so it's gonna be easy for us to find them and finish the job"

Rhok would begin scanning for any signs of tracks coming/going to the Ranch, particularly those of Orc/Ogre size and shape
"At least we know this wasn't the work of our Dragon, Xarroth, whites don't exhale fire do they?" he asks...

OOC: if we're in my favored terrain (Forrest) add another 4 to the above result (just in case, I'm assuming a ranch wouldn't be in a forested area)

Lia has her owl scout the area around the ranch, looking into windows as it does so.

(Is the trap door inside the house or outside of the house?)
”We don’t know if they have any captives in there.” Lia informs the others. “Can’t just burn the place down and risk killing innocents.”
The trap door to the cellar is on the outside, next to one of the first floor doors. All the orcs are inside the house.

Lothlién takes a deep breath. "You're right. We should do what we can to protect any victims. Sneak in the cellar doesn't sound that bad."
Xarroth goes to agree with Rhok's statement but then the sight of the attack becomes clear and he is rendered quiet as they asses. The idea of exacting justice on the orcs now holds appeal.

Lia waits for a response from the tied-up person before she moves further into the area.
