Before his meal, Oscar would clutch silver amulet and look up to the sky. "Thank you oh Grain Goddess... Thank ya for a a safe day O traveling and fer this meal. Please protect our home while were away." He would pray aloud before digging into his food. Oscar would finish the last of his food before looking up to Bree from his empty plate. "dag nabbit Bree... Arn't ya getting a little ahead of yerself! You're putting to ear of corn before the kernal a bit don't ya think?" He would ask with a heavy sigh. "You heard what they said back at the burrow... How we going to get a whole army of puppies back home? Now don't get me wrong... I wouldn't mind getting myself a dog.. not a puppy.. but a dog... a dog big enough for me to ride and to hold my equipment... but ya got to think about how we're gunna get em home." The armored halfling would say as he takes off his helmet and sits it next to him. "the way I look at it... we can probably handle bringing home.. at most... uhh.. umm... carry the one..." He would count on his fingers and rub his forehead a bit.. "Like 6 puppies.... tops" He would state very matter of fact. "But... to answer your question... one... one dog" He would say with a smile.
As the discussion moves towards a watch rotation, Oscar would wave his hand dismissively. "I can take whatever watch you want me to.. just poke me when it's my turn."
"Oh, I am sure we can get them all back home." Bree says with a shake of her head. "You worry too much." She chuckles to herself. "Six puppies, that is just silly..." She looks thoughtful though. "Now I might need five, since having one to ride would be really neat." She is still talking about the idea of this as the group starts to discuss watch rotations.
As the group makes the camp and gets to preparing a meal, Faleon takes out the pearl to focus on its power. About fifteen minutes in, staring at it, he suddenly remembers the letter from his mentor that he'd not had a chance to read yet. He rummages through his pockets to find it and read it. As he reads it, a dark, deeply thoughtful expression comes over his face and all background talk of puppies ceases to be heard. He goes back to the pearl, and after another full hour, whilst he's been staring at the pearl, he's been focused in his mind on the letter and its contents, and he is still is not attuned to the pearl.
With the watch rotation discussed (Gallo, Faleon, Bree, Oscar. If anyone has issue with that let me know) folks make their way to their tents and bedrolls for the night.
(Faleon, I figured you would likely want to continue to attune)
During the second hour of his watch Faleon is sitting by the fire contemplating the adventure to come when two somethings slam into him from behind.
Attack: 11 Damage: 7
Attack: 25 Damage: 21
One of the attacks misses but Faleon doesn't have time to notice as the attack lands with devastating force. At the same time that he feels something slamming into him he also feels a set of jaws clamp down on his shoulder and throw thrash him around. (I'll need a DC13 STR Save or knocked prone) As he is being jerked from side to side he see's two large Mastiffs materialize out of shadow, growling with hackles raised. The struggle and noise from the growl, and undoubtedly a shriek of pain awakes the rest of the party.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Faleon will use his reaction to use his Second Chance feat to force whatever that was to re-roll that attack roll.
(If it still hits) Faleon STR save: 13
"YEAAARRGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!" Faleon takes a moment to begin to process what just happened. He sees the two Mastiffs and looks at them angrily. "Ow! What did I do?! Life outside of the Dale sucks!"
He casts Chaos Bolt at second level, spending two Sorcery Points to twin it.
Mastiff 1- Attack: 21 Damage: 18
Mastiff 2- Attack: 14 Damage: 19
EDIT: Can anyone see what those individual dice rolls are - specifically the two d8s in the 13 damage at the end? They dictate the type of damage dealt, and if they're both the same number, then the spell jumps. (Although it'd need DM clarification on the ruling of the spell twinning - each creature can only be targeted once with each casting of the spell, so does twinning the spell count as the same casting, or a second casting? If it's still counted as the same casting, it's mostly irrelevant)

"Hey, see someone got puppies up here!" Bree says at the sight of the dogs. She frowns as she sees they are not nice doggies though and raises her crossbow. "Someone needs to train these ones better I think..."
Bree moves to put some distance between her and the dogs and then she shoots at one of the dogs. As soon as her bolt is away she will drop and try to get behind some rock or curve of the hill.
Move action: 30 feet away from mastiffs to give her room to move.
Bree puts some distance between herself and the puppies and lands a hit with her crossbow causing 17 dmg and almost killing the already injured mastiff.
The mastiffs acting with the single-mindedness of a creature being commanded to attack both converge on Faleon again.
Attack: 20 Damage: 11
Attack: 11 Damage: 9
(That first attack is going to drop Faleon. I'm guessing you'd like to use that second chance now?)
(Faleon's not done yet...He's not called 'Bigheart' for nothing.)
Faleon will use his Strength of the Grave trait to make a CHA save with DC 5+ the damage taken - if he makes the save he drops to 1hp instead. (I think it might be the original rolled damage though - I assume Second Chance just forces a re-roll of the attack roll, rather than the damage roll). So probably DC16: 19
Faleon manages to pull his foot out of the grave and stabilize at 1hp. The mastiffs are nowhere in sight but we are still in initiative with Gallo and Oscar up

Oscar would stand up and gather himself before looking to Faleon. "Quit playin with those dogs and kill'em already would ya?!" The armored halfling would shout as he offered a healing word. Oscar would then hoist his mace above his head, ready to attack anything that approaches within 5 feet of him.
healing word 8
mace attack Attack: 20 Damage: 8
ooc: life cleric is kind if nice.. healing word does 1d4 plus 3, but then I get to add 3 more because life cleric lol.

Can Gallo take a wild shot into the darkness with his crossbow in hopes of hitting something? After that he will get closer to Faleon and keep peering into the shadows.
In case he can then two attack rolls (for disadvantage): 24, 18 and damage roll just in case: 9. (reduced crossbow bolts by 1)
Faleon will spin around in the darkness, looking for any signs of the mastiffs, but not seeing anything. He'll use his Bonus Action to cast Dragon's Breath on himself, choosing poison damage again, and then take the Ready action, preparing to use the Dragon's Breath if he gets a clear shot at the mastiffs (i.e. only a mastiff and not a friend with a 15ft cone).
