The gnomes in the sleeping quarters know only one gnome from their area who disappeared -- Darvix. They have no idea what happened to him.
The gnomes in this area are mostly inventors and magelings who work under Dabbledob and Fibblestib. They suggest Farnakees listen to the couple, who they proclaim are the best inventors and tinkerers in all Gnomengarde.
''We don't know of any gnome that disappeared here,'' the gnomish couple tell Lathalas.
''Look,'' Dabbledob tells Lathalas warily, ''it's pretty obvious that our king is a nutter. He's the one who's been claiming that there's a shapeshifter in Gnomengarde.
''All we know is that gnomes keep disappearing. You notice that you haven't seen Orryn and Warryn for a day or two -- those are two gnomes who used to work in our workshop who disappeared. So you ask around if anyone has seen them, but no one has. The same thing happened with the others.
''Maybe Captain Klie was right. Maybe there's something outside Gnomengarde that's responsible for the missing gnomes. The problem is Captain Klie and the Long Patrol never came back, so whatever it was might have got them too.''
Mithrokk would like to ask Dabblebob a question.
Upon hearing this last bit from Dabblebob, Mithrokk asks, "If you don't mind me saying, if it isn't a shapeshifter that's causing the disappearances, then perhaps the good Captain Klie was on to something. If I may ask, to the best of your knowledge, what beasts are known to live in the Sword Mountains or the surrounding area? When did they set out for the missing gnomes? We would like to help look for both Orryn and Warryn and would greatly appreciate any information, idea, or theory that you may have leading to this outcome.""
The gnomes explain to Mithrokk that they don't know about any beasts that roam the Sword Mountains. They repeat once again that Gnomengarde is self-sufficient, pointing to the islands near the waterfall. The mushrooms grown there provide their food supply, meaning that trade is not needed. The only gnomes who regularly ventured out of Gnomengarde were Captain Klie and the Long Patrol.
The gnomes are cagey when Alianna asks them this question, especially since you clearly have a noble in your party. Alianna suspects it has something to do with overthrowing existing monarchial and aristocratic power structures to be replaced by some form of communal rulership ... but that's just her guess.
Farnakees asks Dabbledob and Fibblestib, "I saw from your workshop that you wish to heal the Kings, or at least one of them, of their insanity. Do you think that would help this situation with the disappearances?" His intent is to find out if the Kings possess knowledge or powers that could resolve this time of troubles.
OOC: To the party... can we talk to Factore, the cross-bow gnome, next? She might have a clue. She also seems to have suffered the unhinging effect.
After the previous line of questioning, Farnakees plans to ask Dabbledob and Fibblestib about the mushrooms they use for food, and also confer with Lathalas if such mushrooms might have some effects that could cause insanity, a la Asëa Aranion.
The gnomes agree with Lathalas that their mushrooms do not cause hallucinations. The mushrooms grown on the islands come in three colors. The red mushrooms provide oil that is used to fuel lanterns and other mechanical devices. The green mushrooms are ground into flour and used to make a tasty green bread. The red mushrooms are crushed and fermented to make mushroom wine, which traders sometimes come to Gnomengarde to purchase. These mushrooms have supported their community for almost a century.
The kings themselves aren't anything special, Fibblestib and Dabbledob claim. ''The only difference is they've got a bigger spellbook than we do,'' Fibblestib says, pointing to the book on the pedestal in the workshop.
The kings themselves were fine until Korboz said he saw a shapeshifter and locked himself and Gnerkli up in the throne room. With the loss of their leadership, plus the disappearance of Gnomegarde's military commander Captain Klie, Fibblestib and Dabbledob are technically in charge, but they don't have any real to make decisions for the community. That may be why they're now contemplating La Revolucion ...
Alianna tries to get on the 2 gnomes' good side. "Didn't realize I was traveling with Elven nobility." she whispers to the two. "I don't approve of hereditary title or privilege. It's hard work and perseverance that gets things done. Oftentimes the folks high up lose touch with what matters to us regular folk, especially when they aren't capable leaders." Then, looking at Lathalas, she backpedals a bit, "As far as nobles go though, this one's okay." She pauses, waiting to see if they volunteer any revolutionary sentiments.
OOC: The gnomes are just gonna go for Viva La Revolucion!? Still would like to know if they have any plans to solve the problem of the disappearances. Want to figure out how we can either work within their plans or work outside of it.
OOC - Eh, Alianna is palling around with an elf noble. The gnomes know how these repressive authoritarian systems work. They clam up; if forced to speak, they'll cough out platitudes in praise of the Party ... err ... the Monarchy.
"Shall be begin our search for this elusive shapeshifter then?"
Rastaris politely asks Fibblestib and Dabbledob if he can have some chalk if they have any. He'll use the chalk to mark the rooms and items already checked.
Rastaris doesn't see why the group seems overly interested in the political aspect of Gnomengarde. Such things are better left to the gnomes to sort out.

OOC: Is the treasury just full of gizmos and knick knacks? Are they on tables or just piled high on the floor? Are there any chests, armoires, cabinets, and the like?
OOC: Also interested in there being any organic matter in the room. Slime or poop on the floor. Gnomish remains. Something like that.
OOC: It just occurred to me that since no remains have been left behind, especially blood. This "shapeshifter", even though it has teeth, might be swallowing the gnomes whole. We need to look for something that can fit a gnome. As suggested by Lathalas... something big like chests, armoires, cabinets.
Farnakees confers with the rest of the group. Maybe to detect movement within the rooms, the party could spread flour on the floor. He then asks Dabbledob and Fibblestib if they might get some mushroom flour, from the pantry perhaps?

OOC - That there, lady and gentlemen, is the Prime Directive at work.
OOC - The gnome gizmos were just piled on the floor. None of you conducted a thorough search of the place, though.

OOC: Did the 2 gnomes ever answer Farnakees question about what “Revolutionary Democracy” is?

OOC - You guys are bogged down, methinks ... maybe you should review what you've learned so far from the gnomes.
Farnakees asks Dabbledob and Fibblestib, "I saw from your workshop that you wish to heal the Kings, or at least one of them, of their insanity. Lathalas asks the gnomes what they are doing about the disappearances.
OOC: He's trying to gauge how best to align the party's actions with what the gnomes are planning/have already done.
OOC: Lathalas doubts the mushrooms are causing any hallucinations. This is what they've been eating for years with no ill effects.

OOC: Hilarious!

Farnakees finds a dark corner and dons the plate mail. He compliments Dabbledob and Fibblestib on their excellent work and attention to detail.

We need to look for something that can fit a gnome. As suggested by Lathalas... something big like chests, armoires, cabinets.
OOC: Exactly. Also why we're looking for organic matter in the rooms. Either the gnomes were chewed on (because of teeth) or pooped out.
Farnakees confers with the rest of the group. Maybe to detect movement within the rooms, the party could spread flour on the floor. He then asks Dabbledob and Fibblestib if they might get some mushroom flour, from the pantry perhaps?
