Farnakees nudges Alianna to the possible danger. Using her Darkvision, she sees four tiny but fat creatures that look like a disgusting cross between bat and mosquito nestling among her sleeping comrades. The creatures' legs end in sharp pincers, while their faces are dominated by a needle-like proboscis.
Two of the creatures are clustered around Rastaris's head; one is trying to playfully stick its proboscis in the wizard's ear, while the other may be planning to do the same thing to his left nostril.
A third creature is rooting around near Lathalas's crotch, perhaps trying to find a point of entry.
The last creature is nesting beneath Mithrokk's armpit, looking ready to join the dwarf in sleep.
OOC - The creatures are not attacking. If Farnakees shakes his comrades awake, there is a possibility this will agitate the critters. Alianna and Farnakees can make a Nature check to identify the creatures, as well as an Animal Handling check to analyze their behavior.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Alianna stares at the creatures with profound curiousity. She has never encountered their like before. They do not seem to be aggressive so she takes a few moments to observe them: Nature: 14 + 3= 10 or 5 +3=15
Both Alianna and Farnakees recognize the creatures as stirges -- flying bloodsuckers that attack using their proboscis.
Farnakees suspects that these stirges have probably had their fill of blood recently. It might be possible to move them off their comrades without them attacking.
OOC: If Alianna and Farnakees can come up with a plan, I'm all ears. If not, let's roll initiative, though the stirges get a surprise round to attack with Advantage.
Alianna cringes at the sight of the disgusting little beasts. She attempts to drive them away without engaging yet. She asks Mage Hand to very gently brush them away from Lath's nether regions. Since MH is invisible, perhaps they won't attack it. If that doesn't work, she fashions a makeshift censer using her sack and fresh leaves. She has Mage Hand light it away from where she stands and once it begins to smoke, she commands it to use the smoke to drive the creature from Lathalas and the others. Since they're like giant monster mosquitoes, fumigation might work, she hypothesizes.
OOC: Do any of the spell components we got from the orcs produce smoke? If any do, she'll use those instead of the leaves.
OOC - Mage Hand isn't invisible; it's a spectral hand. Seeing a ghostly hand approaching them will likely trigger the stirges to attack.
OOC - The censer idea might work -- there is some foliage around you can use to create smoke. The sack is going to burn too, though. You'll need to use something else that won't catch fire.
OOC - If all else fail, Alianna does have Burning Hands ... it's not as if Rastaris or Lathalas will miss the parts that get cooked alongside the stirges ...
OOC - No spell slots have been regained yet -- you and Farnakees had the first watch.
OOC - The pot will work; this is how I'll rule this. The stirges will need to make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw against the smoke; if they fail they'll be stunned for three rounds. There's a chance your sleeping companions will also suffer from smoke inhalation, though. They're much bigger than the stirges, so the DC for their Constitution save is only half that of the stirges - an 8 or above. If they fail the save, they'll be incapacitated for 2 rounds. So do we proceed with Unternehmen Ausrachern Moskito?

Farnakees
Nature Check: min (20 or 16) + 0 = 16
Animal Handling Check: min (18 or 14) + 2 = 16

OOC: There shall be no entry tonight. But tomorrow! Tomorrow is another day!

OOC: If you cook Lath, he'll just taste better. :(
OOC: Mithrokk always sleeps au naturale. Contact with the earth and stone, helps rejuvenate him.
OOC: Is my watch considered a short rest for an Elf? Do I have a spell slot back?
Alianna changes her mind and uses the pot from the cellar to carry the smoking leaves instead of the sack.
Farnakees assists Alianna with smoking the pot.
OOC: Nice one.

OOC: Light them if you got them. (Sorry, I couldn't resist)
OOC: I say go for it!
Lathalas CON check: 16+1=17.
OOC: He's used to inhaling smoke.
Rastaris Constitution Saving throw: 14 + 2 = 16
OOC: Mind-altering drugs.....meh.
The striges roll their saves.
Stirge 1 - 8
Stirge 2 - 9
Stirge 3 - 6
Stirge 4 - 17
Three stirges are rendered senseless by the smoke; the one near Rastaris's ear senses danger, however, and attacks - 3 or 4 plus 5 = 13.
The stirge goes for Rastaris's eye, realizing too late that it's not there. It misses.
OOC - I'm not rolling initiative for this one; anyone show me a roll higher than 14, and this thing is dead. You don't even need to roll damage.
OOC - You can kill the stunned stirges at your leisure.
OOC: Only Farnakees and Alianna roll for initiative, right? Everyone else is asleep/in a trance.
