This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The gnomes did not look particularly cowed by Farnakees' booming voice. "Actually, we are lost. We were tasked to deliver a scroll but we don't know where. Would you be so kind as to take a look at the seal on this scroll and point us in the right direction?"
Persuasion check: 1 +1= 2
OOC: It finally dawns on Alianna that she does so much better with bugs than people.
Both gnomes aim their crossbows at Rastaris, the obvious deceit in his words putting them on edge.
OOC - Anyone else want to try?
OOC - You were hired by agents of the wizards while in Silverymoon. They didn't identify themselves to you. You're supposed to show the seal on the scrolls.
OOC Mithrokk will attempt to intimidate them.
Raising his voice and speaking directly to the gnome guards, Mithrokk says, "I wouldn't shoot if I were you. Your leaders have waited a very long time to receive this scroll. If we were to perish, this scroll would magically burn itself up. And if that happens, your leaders would be most unhappy with you two... and perhaps your wives and children as well. Choose your next action wisely, friends. It may be your last."
Lathalas slowly lays his weapons on the ground, motions for his partymates to do the same, then takes the sealed letter from Rastaris.
Lathalas speaks: "We bear a letter from Harbin Wester of Phandalin to Kings Gnerkli and Korboz of Gnomengarde. We also have instructions to return to the Townmaster that which he has paid Gnomengarde for."
To the DM: Would I be able to try persuasion again?
Rastaris looks at the seal on the scroll.
Before the guards, he casts Minor Illusion. He recreates the seal but as big as he can with the spell so that the guards clearly see the seal.
"Behold the seal on the scroll. Would you delay our mission to deliver this? Do you speak for your kings in denying us entry?"
Rastaris then with the same spell creates a picture of Townmaster Wester (once again as large as he can with Minor Illusion so that the guars clearly see the picture from where they are).
""This is Townmaster Wester. He has personal business with your Kings."
"In denying us entry, you deny the Townmaster. You disrespect him and Phandalin"
"And would you dare jeopardize the relationship between Phandalin and Gnomengarde"
"Best let your Kings decide what is best."
To the DM: Can I get advantage? :) [If I can, I'll make another roll.]
OOC: I don't have to do anything. I just sit here and watch all the rolls come in ...
OOC: No, you cannot roll another check after you have clearly shown that you are murder hobos who cannot be trusted.
After witnessing a seemingly insincere attempt by Rastaris to convince them, followed by a less than impressive attempt by Farnakees to browbeat them, followed by a clearly false attempt by Alianna to reassure them, then Mithrokk threatening them with consequences he clearly has no power to bring down upon them, then topped by Lathalas pretending that the party was actually sent by the townmaster of Phandalin, the gnomes have had enough.
Dropping their crossbows, they flee into the cave (G9). A series of shrill, high-pitched whistles echo in their wake. These whistles are soon answered by other whistles coming from the other caves.
OOC: You are now free to enter cave G9. Tell me if you want to do anything there, or if you want to move further into Gnomengarde.
OOC: Adding salt to your wounds, all you needed to convince the guards you were friends not foes was a DC 10. :)
OOC: No, you'd probably have to ask one of the residents where the throne room is. Rastaris can try his Deep Speech to see if the gnomes understand him.
The party heads to the bridge to cross to the western caves.
The waterfall near the bridge plunges 60 feet, its mist lightly obscuring the 35-foot long bridge anchored to the 20-foot-high ledges.
OOC: Who's crossing the bridge first? Also give me a rough estimate of what your character weighs.
The bridge starts to sag slightly as Lathalas steps on it, followed by Alianna. When Lathalas is at the midpoint of the bridge, it sags so that it is only 15 feet above the water. The same happens for Alianna. The midpoint of the bridge sags to just 10 feet above the water when Rastaris crosses.
OOC: Okay, this is where it gets interesting. Lathalas and Alianna roll 1d4 each; Rastaris roll 1d6. I'll add up the total; that's the structural damage you've caused while crossing a bridge built for small people. Even if you max out your rolls, though, I already know you're not going to cause enough damage to snap the bridge ... yet.
The bridge sags to just 5 feet above the water when Mithrokk crosses.
OOC: Mithrokk will roll a d8 for structural damage.
If Mithrokk gets across, then the bridge also sags to just 5 feet above the water when Farnakees crosses.
OOC: Farnakees will roll a d8 for structural damage.

OOC: Gaaah!
OOC: Let's try again.

Rastaris presents his Minor Illusions to an empty guard post.
DM roll: 16.
Lathalas shrugs. "Such is the wind at times," he mused.
"If you can peacebond your weapons, it might calm our anxious little friends."
Rastaris is relieved yet puzzled that the gnomes have fled into their home.
"Mithrokk, where do you think the Kings hold court in this place?"
OOC: Do we go G10 [left series of caves] or G9 [right series of caves]
OOC: You can also cross the bridge (G2) to G10, if you'd like.
To the DM: Do we have any hunch where the throne room is located? (left or right?)
OOC to DM: We'll do just that - walk purposefully, continually announcing ourselves, out of G9, cross the bridge (G2), and head towards G10
To the DM: Would the gnomes understand Deep Speech?
OOC: No, you'd probably have to ask one of the residents where the throne room is. Rastaris can try his Deep Speech to see if the gnomes understand him.

Marching Order for crossing the bridge:
Lathalas
Alianna
Rastaris (260 lbs. w/equipment)
Mithrokk
Farnakees
Does the bridge look strong enough to carry everyone or do we all have to cross one by one?
The party is wary since the gnomes have sounded an alarm or warning to their kin.
OOC: Mithrokk is 205lbs plus 130lbs
OOC: Alianna is 206 with equipment

OOC: Lath 135+100=235 lbs.
Structural Damage: 3
Alianna: 2
