The halfling takes a long drink from the barrel before moving out and then follows the lead of bitter ashes. After exiting the stream he says "we need to find food, soon, to keep our strength up.."

The halfling looks around for edible plants or anything of the sort, even flowers or buds that have yet to bloom. (Could use Druidcraft to try to coax any nearby plant life into something worthwhile via "make a flower blossom, a seed pod open, or a leaf bud bloom".)
"I agree. Once we feel safe that we shouldn't get caught, we need to start finding something to eat. I'm not doing great, and it looks like Blanche needs food as well."
Asha moves to Blanche, offering to help carry her as well. "We can do this. You're going to be alright."

It would but there are many issues. You haven't been fed right, you are cold, tired and a bit scared. Depending on how you managed to survive your character might not be the best at survival. Helped by others comes to mind but there are other possibilities.

The trek to the hills is a rather long one and when you end up at the top of the first one you can see that the sun is rising, struggling to shed some much needed light, though the black rolling clouds, on the starved fields surrounding you.
From the high vantage point you can see much farther. Behind you, the forest sprawls for a long while. A small village seems to be in its clutch, a bit east of its center. To the west you can see the smoke from the chimneys of many houses rising just beyond the horizon. To the North and after several more hills and rolling plains you see what seems to be an abandoned village at the edge of a smaller forest. I will take you another 12 hours to get there.

"over here." Leshanna calls to the others, leading the way to the stream, and then the cave the stream leads into. "We will need to check this for creatures living in it already, but it seems nicely hidden and could serve nicely for a plate to rest."
Bitter Ashes looks at Leshanna, “Very good e’es, very good. We all need t’ rest oop ‘n’ plan a wee bit,” he says. “Be ‘opes ther’ no nasty thin’s in there, but jes in case all be ready t’ fight.” He regards his companions carefully. “Do any o’ ye see in th’ dark places? The group steps of the water and survey the erea taking their bearing before deciding their next move.
To the east is the forest and its inviting shadows but you all know that creatures lurk in these shadows.
To the west is the Barn.
North are hills and maybe a better vieux of the country side.

"Agreed." Leshanna says. "Why don't we head for those hills instead."
( I'm supposing you are all in agreement )

Mordyn says, (and not in a dark and emo way, just casual) “I thrive in the dark.” He steps forward and begins walking into cave.
Mordyn has darkvision up to 120ft so he can begin running much earlier if he needs to.
Bitter Ashes will move to back Mordyn up, from his right and slightly behind. (say about 5’ rt and 10’ behind)
Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Seeing the two move toward the cave, Asha will walk with Blanche and Ith, looking out for any danger.
