"Shalana has been operational for ... cycles. Routine maintenance is required for peak operational effectiveness," clanks Shalana, "Shalana's main function is to protect the monastery, additionally, to spread the word of the Ascended," responds Shalana as the mechanical contraption removes a small tool from it's hand and begins to screw back one of the brackets in the neck.

Hatch of course had stayed quiet, letting his more...eloquent companions deal with the two guards. It was interesting, but not exactly useful for him now. Hunting monsters for a trial seemed like a bad idea in comparison to just hunting them for the safety of others. Still, in a year it could be something fun to watch for...
Buy for now, they were making their way north again. Hopefully the trek wouldn't be too difficult.
Leaving behind the beast hunters the group treks north through the hills Banzos hawk scouting the way, with the wizards eyes oft times able to see the way before you arrive there you are able to choose the easier trails and make good time. Eventually after six hours of travel you crest a hill and look down upon a settlement...or at least the remains of one.
Zeltheris estimates they are near where he saw the distant shapes circling in the sky.
Rough hide and wood structures have been flattened and torn, the corpses of hill-folk litter the open ground; many transfixed by thick barbed spears...others ripped open by huge talons.
"Ok, well this is not good." Brocc says as he rides his spider mount through the destroyed village. He looks around to see if there are any dead that look different, part of the attacking force.
There appear to be no signs of any aerial watchers in the region.
Broccs inspection shows only dead hill-folk, the attackers who ever they were seem to have left unscathed for the most part. He does spot a small group of surviving hill-folk gathered under a rocky outcrop a little way removed from the settlement.
"Looks like survivers." Brocc says, turning his mount towards the hillfolk he spotted. "Let's go and see if they need our help, and can tell us what happened here."
" They flew north again, this is the second time they've attacked but they were rather more thorough this time.....I don't know. There are more of our people to the east though it will be difficult going with the little ones."
"I'm not sure." Brocc says with a frown. "Maybe we should escort them to their neighbor village, to make sure they get there safely. It would likely be a good idea to check on this other village, and make sure they were not attacked as well."
"I don't care about 'tales of our greatness', my ego's not that big - but I am with y'all that we should provide escort. Give whatever safety we can." Hatch is in agreement with the seeming consensus of the group. He looks out at the field of the dead. "I'm not one to stick around, and there's too many to bury, but should we do one more search for survivors, or say some pretty words for the departed?'

A small spark juts out of Shalana's neck.

"Sounds good." Brocc says, glancing to his companions. "Anyone need anything else here or should we continue north?"

"The Ascended is our first, the one who awoken!" Shalana sounds angry and confused at Banzo for not knowing the malfunctioning automaton's "deity".

Herman follows as well but he is on the lookout for any nasty surprise
Zeltheris follows a little closer to the group than usual, not inclined to be caught out alone in case whatever it is comes back.
As the companions approach a young woman with a bloody cut on her forehead ventures out brandishing a stone axe.
" Of course! The sky-lions and their masters did this."
" Some cuts and bruises....we are better off than most of our families."
"Any idea why they did this?" Brocc asks with a glance at the destruction.
" They flew north again, this is the second time they've attacked but they were rather more thorough this time.....I don't know. There are more of our people to the east though it will be difficult going with the little ones."
" The last time they came they were yelling about a crown...this time they just killed and ripped the tents apart."
"I'm not sure." Brocc says with a frown. "Maybe we should escort them to their neighbor village, to make sure they get there safely. It would likely be a good idea to check on this other village, and make sure they were not attacked as well."
Zeltheris nods, "Brocc makes a good point. Let's provide escort for these poor folk so they may spread the tales of our greatness!"
Herman nods in agreement, while bad memories about raids on his tribe comes to his mind. He looks at the little villagers and hardly holds his tears
