Opening the door reveals a bedroom; a gnome-sized bed with a rug on the floor. The other room, from which Kobold 3 emerged, has a desk with book, papers and vials and jars of various substances. You find a paper lying on top:
Of all the sources we mine from within the Silberquel, my yield of saltpeter still proves the most pure and powerful! The Firemarks, pry as they might, will have to respect my expertise and contributions to the war effort.
The sheer volume of untapped guano in that cavern behind the top of the falls is invaluable, and once I have enough marked interest from the Firemark Facility, I’ll let them help in harvesting my secret cave.
Alton just starts poking around the house while Wash reads the note and Balassar interrogates the kobold. "Oh, you should asked what happened to the gnome that lived here. Nina, I think was her name."

Yes, you would all know that the Silberquel is the name of the mountain range that dominates this part of Wildemount. Hupperdook itself is build against one of the mountains of the Silberquel.
Assuming Balassar asks as Alton suggests, the kobold replies. Taken, she was. Taken to the Master. I can show you. Please, don't hurt me.
Yes, there's no reason you can't take a short rest here. I mean, technically it's a crime scene and there was an explosion just outside, but you have badges, so... If you want to take a short rest, please confirm and roll hit die if needed.
[Hehe, I know right? That said, I will only get uses of my non-warlock Healer's feat back, so if no-one else needs a short rest, Wash is fine to keep going as well.]
While taking the short rest, Wash asks Balassar what the kobald told him.
He then asks the others "Should we report what we have found out back to the Firemarks or even back to the Crownsguard, or should we just go and try to find this secret cave by ourselves? Usually I'd urge caution and suggest we get some more muscle, which the Crownsguard might be able to provide, though I've been impressed with how you have both handled yourselves so far so I am happy if you think we don't need it."
Alton doesn't really need a short rest, so during that time he will collect the crossbow along with any and all bolts he can find for it. Afterwards, he will just continue to explore the rest of the house, looking in anything that he can open to see if there is anything that might be hidden around.

Alton, is there anything in particular, or any place or object in particular, that you want to focus your search on? Please also roll an Investigation check.
(You did - or rather Wash already took a look in that room. There's a gnome-sized bed with a rug on the floor. What do you want to search? Though I don't fancy your chances with that roll...)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
[I hope this is not overkill, let me know if it is. I am a fan of old text-based adventures, so I am happy to go to this level of detail if the module suggests it.]
Wash searches the kitchen area (including where there was a black square in the original picture): Investigation: 8
He then searches the fireplace: Investigation: 17
He searches through the pile of rubble in one corner: Investigation: 3
He then takes a closer look at the empty chest: Investigation: 7
He checks under the bed in the gnome's bedroom: Investigation: 8
Wash moves the rug in the gnome's bedroom, just in case there is something underneath.
Wash also looks on the bookshelf: Investigation: 7 and reads the titles of books on it and on the desk.

Wash reads the note out.
Would Wash know what/where Silberquel is?

Wash asks Ballasar "what information has our little friend been sharing?"
Balassar just holds him out "Put the manacles on him. He says their master is at Silver Falls and that he'll lead us."
His attention turns back to the Kobold "How many follow your leader?"

Many many, the kobold answers. Kobolds and... others I don't know. Big and strong, but not kobolds. Too many. Better to run away, yes?
Wash puts the manacles on the kobald.
Wash, you are able to apply the manacles successfully, as there's no time pressure.
[No time pressure, as in we could spend an hour to get a short rest?]
Warlocks :)

Balassar just puts him on the ground after the manacles are on "You clearly don't know us. We don't run."

You take a short rest, in the relative peace of the empty house, as the city gets to work around you.
What are you doing afterwards?
While taking the short rest, Wash asks Balassar what the kobald told him.

You find a decent crossbow, light and 11 bolts for it.
Alton is going to take a look in that second room that I don't think we have been inside of yet.
Investigation: 5
