"Vargach, my friend. Do you know anything of these..." Boosey struggles to find a word before finally settling for a fairly neutral, "people? Could you talk to them and find out why they have come this far north. Their presence here could be significant." He turns to look at the lobster folk with curiosity. "Then again it's probably nothing. No harm in finding out." He inwardly winces at the size of their claws. Even if they're friendly he might forego handshakes with them, just to be on the safe side.
He asks Eku, "Do these folk speak common, at all? I do have the means to understand them, if need be."
Eku nods to the bard saying, "They are versed in the common tongue, making them more of a mystery for the natives of this peninsula since most of them speak the Chultan offshoot of the language. They are barters one and all. Their culture seems to thrive on it, but their expectations of a fair trade often weigh askew on their side."
“Aquan Vargach believe they speak. Not much dealings we have with them. Only sometimes trade things. No speak Aquan.”
Vargach hissed a little but as he spoke about the crabfolk. It was not that he disliked them, he just generally distrusted most other races but himself. the conversation with the Vedalken had given him a lot of food for thought and he reflected how different their races were. That being said, he believed he had begun improving his common and understood more and more of their conversations as well as their cultures.
"I would accompany you, archer," Nenne offers. "I admit curiosity about them and why they have strayed so far from their native lands. Storyteller, would you like to come with us?"
Boosey nods and gestures to Nenne and Vargach. "After you m'lady and sir". He keeps a respectful distance as the group approaches, very wary of the massive claws that the creatures have in place of hands. He whispers to the two of them "What the hell do we address these things as? Friend? Fish? Crusty?" He waves at them and says tentatively, "erm….hello?"
"Peace to you!" Nenne bows slightly to the creatures. "Pardon our intrusion, we are simply curious how you came to be in these parts and whether you were in need of any aid."
Eku giggles when the ranger mentions that they might speak aquan. She whispers to Allister, "Their use of the common tongue is unorthodox and Vargach's is just not great. It's no wonder he didn't understand them." As the lobserfolk are approached they clack and snap their pincers together and form a line to intercept the travelers. The one in the center speaks first, "Halt! Closer no. Nothing wrong. Soon go. Away you." The one on the left says, "Trade no."
Nenne inclines her head respectfully. "Apologies. No offense was meant. We shall leave you to your business. Safe journey to you." And she will return to the group.
As Nenne returns to the group Boosey lingers a moment. "No trade. Just information we want. Have you noticed anything unusual in the Jungle lately?" He shouts to them.
The center lobsterfolk snaps his pincers several times and makes a watery gurgle before saying, "Strange no. Lizard big. Hide. Away go." The creature points a claw down river as it speaks.
Realising that there's not much else to be gained from talking to the lobsters, Boosey shouts a thank you, starts to give a wave, thinks better of it, and returns to the group.
"What do you suppose it meant by 'lizard big'?" Nenne murmurs when Boosey rejoins them. "Some kind of native predator? Vargach? The dragon we saw a week hence?"
"They would surely regard a dragon as strange here. Wouldn't they? A dragon here is pretty unusual, although it almost seems normal compared to some of the creatures we've encountered so far! Lizard could mean anything, it could be a "Dunk" for all we know. We should be on our guard at least, although they don't look like their the least bit concerned about it". He shrugs, "I guess, whatever it is, doesn't like lobster"
The party moves on from the strange lobsterfolk and as night falls the rain finally comes on with a fury. All of day 37 is lost to trying to keep dry under the meager shelter a tent offers.
Day 38
The day after the heavy rain goes by fairly well until the party comes to a fairly open spot in the jungle. A massive beast walking on two legs can be seen in the distance. It has small arms and a huge head with long, sharp teeth and balances itself with a long tail. The creature is sniffing the area, obviously on the hunt. It appears not to have noticed the party yet as it is 900 feet away still.
Vargach has simply shrugged his shoulders as the crabfolk had stopped their advances. He could not help but wonder how one of those large creatures would taste, cracked open and fresh. Unfortunately it appeared he was not going to find out today.
they had continued traveling through the jungle, where he felt much more at home. At the appearance of the giant predator, he instinctively lowered his body, attempting to stay out of the giant reptile’s field of view. He knew that as a lizard himself, the other likely relied more so on its sense of smell, but it would likely not sense Vargach as much as the others. Still, it posed significant danger and was a formidable foe.
”This big predator. Very dangerous. Don’t think can hide, will smell us. May have to hit hard and fast. What you say?”
"If we must," Nenne replies hesitantly. "I cannot say I am terribly fond of the wildlife in this jungle, nor am I fond of inflicting harm on anything that is not an immediate threat. Eku? What say you about our chances of skirting this danger without engaging it directly?"
A crouched Eku whispers in reply to the cleric, "I have never encountered such a beast in the wild. I can't say for sure, but I agree with Vargach in that this beast is very dangerous." She looks like she has more to say, but she keeps the words to herself as she checks the string on her bow. Her golden eyes are locked onto the large beast as she does so. She looks to Vargach and gives the ranger a nod of admiration.
"I suppose I have said that troubles are unavoidable," she mutters to herself. Grasping her holy symbol, she casts Aid on herself, Allister, and Boosey. "Fortune favors the prepared," she adds, smiling thinly.
ooc: Add 5hp to your max and your current HP for the next 8 hours, Allister and Boosey. Figured we're the most likely to get into melee with it, given our weapons' and spells' ranges.

"That very much indeed is a big lizard friend. Just as they have warned us."
"I wonder though...," and he began to scratch his chin, "how much gold a tooth may be. Just a thought."
Made you look.
Vargach has simply shrugged his shoulders as the crabfolk had stopped their advances. He could not help but wonder how one of those large creatures would taste, cracked open and fresh. Unfortunately it appeared he was not going to find out today.
