The gnome gasps in frustration as the hatch fails to budge. "I think we should have another look round, see if we can find anything that looks like it might be a release mechanism"
Allister leads the way down the cramped staircase with everyone following behind. Orvex makes sure to keep a good distance from what he believes might be a dangerous heading. After the steep staircase, the hallway slopes down and wraps around the temple to end up on the left side of the sandy pit. The hall stands dark across the other side. Allister takes special note of the amount of cobwebs he's having to clear from this place. The webs are clear down below as if a small creature had come through here recently, but if anyone his size came this way, they were crawling under the webs.
„Someone small went down the stairs recently. Maybe the same person who keeps the pit clean. Let’s be extra careful.“ Allister walks into the room with the sand pit. Remembering Ekuˋs lessons about dangers in the ground he sticks the point of the rapier into the sand, pushing it slowly forward, checking for any resistance under the sand.
The whole floor shifts as Allister sets his weight onto the sand. It seems to be some sort of pressure plate and several loud, clanking sounds can be heard from the passage beyond. Footsteps immediately follow and Allister is greeted by the nondescript face of a clay humanoid weilding a round wooden shield and a bronze spear coming around the corner.
Hearing the concern in his voice, Nenne pushes past Sthara to get a better vantage. Upon sighting the advancing constructs, she grasps her holy symbol and summons a red skeletal hand (Spiritual Weapon that swings down on the one in front. When it misses, she growls in frustration and says, "Kelevmor shall be your judge if you harm us!" (Channel Divinity - Path to the Grave. Creature is now vulnerable to whatever next attack lands.)
The first clay combatant ducks under the skeletal hand and lunges forward on quickened steps. Upon reaching Allister the faceless thing swings out with its shield twice. No novice to battle, Allister uses the creature's own momentum to push the blows left, then right. The creature seems to catch on and pushes harder with the right and comes back too fast for the warrior to block the third shield slam (10 damage). The strength behind blow has the potential to knock the fighter on his ass. (STR save vs prone)
Three other warriors come into the sandy pit and block the entrance through in a line. They slam their spear butts into the ground and raise their shields in front of their featureless torsos defensively.
Hearing Allisters shout, then the sound of fighting, Boosey moves forward quickly to get a better view into the pit. He sees that the pit is open to the elements and quickly forms the words for the spell call lightning causing a cloud to appear directly above the temple. Suddenly there is a flash, and with an enormous crack, a bolt of energy spurts forth from the cloud, striking the creature stood in front of the opposite entrance. ///21 damage\\\ As the lightning hits, it transfers to the other creatures around it, leaving a burning smell in the air.
As the lightning comes down, the clay gladiators move with frightening speed, avoiding much of the attack. The two nearest the corners run up the wall and flip back down to the sand spears in hand ready to strike. The center one hops backwards into the opening and lunges back into the fray while the central one targeted simply throws itself to the side as if it had felt the attack coming.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Watching the speed at which the clay men dodge the lightning that Boosey called down, Sthara calls out “Dance around this!”
She summons a tidal wave up from the feet of the leading construct, which crashes against the back walls of the sand pit and down the passage behind (DC15 Dex Save or 15 bludgeoning damage and prone, half as much on failure).
The faceless clay men slam their spears to the sky and thrust themselves upwards as the wave forms, breaking through it. Bits of clay come off on a couple of them signifying the spell still did some damage, but their quick actions saved them from most of it. The two corner-most creatures are remain poised on the wall, spear out threateningly. Water drips from their gravity defying forms running down their featureless faces.
Shaking his head while backflipping to his feet Allister jabs his rapier under the construct‘s shield for a hit but his second attack falls short. A quick slash with his cutlass finds its mark, leaving barely a scratch. During his attacks Allister yells „I told you to get back. Don’t attack unless they do.“
The center-most creature showing the most wear attacks Allister in tandem with two others. The one on Allister's right stands on the wall as if gravity meant nothing to it. Allister is a blur of motion parrying as many attacks as he can, but two shield slams catch him in the end (18 damage) and the brutal movement causes his senses to fail as the last two spears come in piercing the warrior's side (22 damage).
The remaining clay warrior runs out of the top of the pit and squeezes through the bars, disappearing from sight. Moments later Orvex is screaming running towards Boosey, "Help! help!"
Boosey is astounded at the agility of these creatures. His spell call lightning is still active, and he uses it to fire a bolt down next to the creature in the middle of the pit //15 damage\\. He shouts words of encouragement to Allister giving him Bardic Inspiration, before swapping places with Orvex to attend to the threat from the groups rear.
He shouts to the scribe. "There's a sling in my pouch with some ammunition. Have a look inside and get it out. We need all the help we can get"

„It’s time we go downstairs. Anyone disagree?“
"Let's keep searching, or leave this place behind. Be wary of more traps, as well."
„I’ll keep my eyes open. Come on, let’s get downstairs.“ Taking up the front Allister gets down the stairs.

„Everyone get back to the stairs.“ Allister draws his blades and pushes the group with his back towards the stairs.

Orvex yells from behind, "What's going on!? What do you see?" He looks as if he is ready to run given the opportunity and reason.
"Why, what are these things?" Nenne asks as the sparkling divine energy building in her hand slowly dissipates. (Dodge action)

Again with incredible agility, the creature dodges most of the lightning attack.
