"I am not keen to get any nearer to the source of that dark presence today," Nenne says, eyeing north uncomfortably. "I suspect we will have need of all our magical resources for that adventure, and we are already at reduced energy from our prolonged battle at Shagambi's shrine. I do not like to tempt fate. That said," and she looks at Sthara with a slightly girlish expression, "I admit some curiosity in the lava temple, myself. I have never seen lava, before, only read of it."
With a look down the road north, Orvex says, "I could do for a travel through the city again. Though if we travel that way, we need to be on the lookout for that feline assassin. I do not want to be on the recieving end of one of those arrows."
Travel through the ruined city becomes easier as the rain all but disappears under a cloudy sky. Aside from common jungle critters, no signs of life, good or bad, are discovered along the way to the lava pit. Tumbledown ruins cling to the lip of a rift overlooking a lake of bubbling lava. The uneven, rocky slope falls 200 feet before reaching the lava's surface.
A column of rock rises above the lava. A walled ruin overgrown with palms perches on the summit. Some easy poking about the cliff's edge puts the closest point to the lone 'island' at a 60 foot gap.
Looking the lava, then to the island, Lemon moved his head slowly taking it all in. "Aye... it looks to me that we may be needin' assistance. Me tongue may speak to the animals however... we'll need ter find one that could fly if we want a way across. Or maybe... find one that may know another way."
Lemon walks away from the pit to loom for any possible animals, however first setting a ritual to ready his tongue in the need to speak with the animals (Speak to Animals).
After speaking with nearby animals, Lemon discovers the obvious: flying creatures are usually all that frequent the 'island'. The druid also finds out that 'some of his kind walked down into the pit and back up the other side.'
"Ye all might want to hear this." He looks at everyone, "There may be another way. Me friends be tellin me that me own kind walked down into the pit and be back up on ther oth'er side!"
„What is your kind? Druids or dwarves? It could also be important where they stepped into the pit, perhaps some kind of elemental spirit is guarding a path.“ Allister turns his attention to his surroundings and the island, he tries to find sturdy trees or exposed rocks that would hold his grappling hook
There are ample places on the other side for a grappling hook to catch. A tree grows near the edge, several uneven boulders skirt the edge of the cliff half buried in the dirt, and a ruined wall might also be a possibility.
Allister asks his friends for another rope that he ties to his. He is stepping to the edge of the cliff, swings the rope with the hook in circles to gain momentum and throws it over the chasm towards the low wall.
The first throw was successful, hooking on the wall, but testing the hook, pulled part of the old wall down. The second attempt met with a miss. The third attempt lands in the void that the first attempt created. Allister tests the rope, pulling with all his might and the hook holds fast.
Orvex skeptically looks at the pit and back to Lemon after hearing his bit about what the beast said.
Allister ties the rope to a tree and checks the knot. When he is sure it’s strong enough he doffs his half-plate, dons his leather armor and walks to the cliff. „Ok, I’m gonna give it a try. See you on the other side.“ He grabs the rope, swings his legs over it and pulls himself to the other side. Once he’s there he shouts „I forgot something. Can you check the area for our bow shooting friend? I don’t want anyone to be in his line of sight when you get here.“ Allister makes sure the hook is still holding, then he walks around an examines the nearby ruins.

Nenne scans the surroundings for any signs of danger (Perception 26) and struggles to avoid thinking of placing yet another friend beside Funderburk. She turns to the group. "We came all this way," she says, gesturing to the lava behind her. "Surely the warrior would appreciate some company on the other side?"
"Aye, ye be right elf." Lemon, standing on his tippy toes, pats Allister on the back. "Ye won't be alone. I know not what the beast meant by me kind, but ye all and ourselves," he pats himself and Allister, "should be warry. Nature be takin me body once more into a beast to cross along with the fighter. From there... he along with I shall explore."
He turned away from the group now, and still conversing with some passing animals, he gives the his thanks, along (almost sadly though) he have them some of his berries. He went to the crossing and his form began to change once more, into that of a tiny spider. Once completed, he began to cross.
Lemon is half way across the rope when Allister yells „Big snakes! I need help here.“ Across the rift you see him draw his blades and take several steps backwards as a giant snake, perfectly camouflaged in a nearby tree, emerges from is concealment. As the snake snaps at Allister it is hit by two vicious slashes with rapier and cutlass.
Allister retreats near the grappling hook as the wounded serpent lashes out. The creature was positioned in such a way that it springs itself forward, adding momentum to its teeth as they pierce into Allister's forearm (11 damage). A second snake-like creature slithers up behind the first and springs forward, but Allister was prepared for the move this time. He parries the creature's teeth with his own sword, pushing it back to the ground. To the fighter's dismay, another creature he didn't know about bites down from over the wall. The fangs sink deep into the meat of his chest as its mouth wraps around Allister's shoulder (19 damage). The creatures hiss and make spitting sounds as they snap their jaws, biting at the warrior furiously. A fourth snake comes into view preparing to spring.
Allister screams in pain as the snakes bite him. He focuses his will to subdue the pain and concentrates on killing the already wounded snake. His first attacks glances off its scales but his second thrust impales his foe through its maw as it lunges at him.
Taking initiative from the warnings of Allister and from his screems, Lemon takes initiative and dashes across the rope. Once he is on the ground he is places himself closer to the snake, about 5ft from it. He stays in his form however. Thinking ahead, he knew this form could take a bit of damage before he has to resort back to normal. And now prepared, he readied for battle.
With the commotion rising across the gap, Sthara hones in on the snakes that strike at her companion. She winds up and pitches a ball of of white hot fire at the one furthest from the trees (chromatic orb at 3rd level, 10 to hit for 22 damage).
She runs nearer to the edge and looks woefully at the path that Allister took across.
(Adding Favored by the Gods to improve the hit: 5)
Sthara's orb comes in at the snake as it fully prepares to spring out at Allister. The snake hisses and twists as the orb sears skin from bone. The creatures insides pop and boil in the heat as they roll out of its opened body. In moments the things lies still and unmoving.
Boosey quickly casts a spell to aid Nenne and himself across the chasm before rushing to the edge.
A gout of red energy spears its way across the chasm as Nenne sends a second-level Guiding Bolt at a snake harrying the fighter (18 to hit, 20 damage, advantage on next strike against it).
In the blink of an eye, she vanishes from the cliff and appears halfway across the rope, dangling from it like a sloth, and proceeds to pull herself toward the opposite side.
