Nenne backtracks to the entrance and walks down the zebra corridor, where she sees a ray of blue light falling on the cupped right foot of the statue. She leaves the cubby and joins Sthara in the main room. "Each mask illuminates a different limb," she says so all can hear. She takes her Lighted pebble out of her pocket and does a visual sweep of the room, hoping the illumination will reveal more clues. (Perception 22)
"Very strange. I suppose then that the limbs are key. Boosey!" Sthara calls out, "Come read these inscriptions. We must know whether to take the ape's hands or feet."
Cautiously Boosey walks round from his passageway into the main chamber, where he begins to read each of the cuneiform inscriptions in turn. "A pity Orvex is not here for this. One of you may want to write this down." As he reads, he translates them out loud, so the others can hear.
Lemon stayed outside enjoying the view. Next to Eku, the sat down and pat the ground beside him for her to sit as well.
"Ye know human, everyone be in pairs, might as well be in one with ye." After some time of being extremely bored, Lemon got up, stretched, and told Eku that he will do and join everyone else if she would like to accompany him as well. He turned towards the temple and walked in, going through the F14 tunnel. And followed through hoping to get some insight of what is going on within the temple.
Boosey goes to work deciphering the various inscriptions:
The inscription behind the monkey statue reads, "That night, a su-monster broke into Ubtao’s palace and stole a pail of water for the Omuans. When the god came running to find it, the su-monster hid the pail in a jaculi’s burrow. Ubtao asked the jungle animals where his water was hidden, and Moa the jaculi was too honest to lie. When Wongo the su-monster found out how Moa had betrayed him, he vowed to catch the jaculi and eat him up."
The inscription above the lion mask reads, “I ate one of the boar’s friends.” A character who peers through the mask sees a ray of blue light falling from the ceiling onto the right hand of the statue. The inscription above the boar mask reads, “The vulture is lucky to be alive.” Through this mask, a character sees a ray of blue light falling onto the left foot of the statue. The inscription above the zebra mask reads, “My only friend starved to death.” Through this mask, a character sees a ray of blue light falling onto the right foot of the statue. The inscription above the vulture mask reads, “One of the others has no friends.” Through this mask, a character sees a ray of blue light falling onto the left hand of the statue.
After translating the cuneiform, Boosey is silent for a while looking thoughtful. "I need to spend some time thinking about these. It's a riddle of some sort, it seems." He turns to Lemon. "I had an idea at the entrance, would you be able to translate the monkey noises for us?"
Confused as to why, Lemon just shrugged his shoulders and obliged. He walked out of the temple and towards the two statues where he ritual casted "Speak to Animals". Once done, he walked through the statues, hoping to trigger their welcoming noises along the way.
Nenne does a circuit around the statue, trying to see if there is anything in the cupped hands and feet. Sighing at her lack of success, she palms another pebble and backs up into the hallway. "I'm tempted to throw something at the open hand to see if it triggers anything," she warns the group. "You may want to stand back...or prepare."
Shaking her head she mutters to herself, "Глупая, наверно," she casts Bless on herself, Sthara, and Boosey, then lobs the pebble at the vulture-side hand.
Boosey removes the stone from where Nenne threw it and places it in each of Worlo's cupped hands/feet in turn.
When nothing happens he asks Nenne, "Would you be willing to venture round and look through the vulture mask? Once you're in place, I'll place the stone into the correct hand." Once Nenne signals she is in place, he places the stone in Wongo's left hand.
The sounds of monkeys fill the chamber as more and more water is poured into the cupped limb. The clamour climbs ro a deafening roar as the water molds into the shape of a cube. The sounds persist after the cube is whole.
Boosey's words are caught in his throat, not that anyone would be able to hear him over the noise as he spots Nenne and Allister changing before his eyes. The noise suddenly stops and a loud, disembodied voice echoes off the walls of the shrine, "You've taken your prize and cursed your friends! Trust no one. Save yourself!"
Nenne's body darkens to black and she squacks, flapping one arm weirdly. Her legs shrink and yellow as her face pokes out from the center. Her hair falls out and spikes erupt all along her body as her equipment molds into herself. The spikes explode into feathers and her face now bears a long beak. In the cleric's place is a vulture.
Allister lets out a roar as hair erupts all around his face. His top half is thrown to the ground and his face elongates to bear a snout. His equipment also molds into his body as golden fur shoots out to cover his body. The fighter's hands and feet mold into clawed feline forms. He roars again, this time the true roar of the lion that replaces him.
Allister the lion immediately spots the shape changed Nenne and darts towards it. The cat's claws rake across the bird, ripping it open, only to roll Nenne back into existence. Her form explodes out of the wound and the rest of the party joins in battle against the fierce cat. In a few short seconds the cat is wounded and Eku runs into the room firing a shot that grazes the cat's haunches. One of the legs pulls back weirdly and the cat falls to the floor, becoming Allister reaching for the small wound.
„That is the first and probably the last time I’m gonna say this… thanks for hitting me.“ Allister stands up and examines the minor wound. „Can we leave this crazy place? We need a place to lay low and decide which shrine to visit next.“
"We are close to the source of the evil presence," Nenne admits, a little uncomfortably. "Considering our urgency to find the cubes, however, I would almost rather ignore that for now. Yet I leave it for you all to decide."
