Without need for provisions or present interest in the vendors' merchandise, Nenne follows Allister further into the bazaar. Even with his headstart, she manages not to lose him in the crowd. She hangs back when the woman begins to speak and casts a searching glance around the courtyard to gauge whether anyone is taking an interest in this exchange, as well as what the general mood seems to be. (Perception 13, Insight 18)
As Nenne is catching up with Allister she notices the woman catch the fighter in a sidelong glance. She throws her hands up towards a couple nearby soldiers and points at Allister before walking over. The indication is clear to Nenne that she was silently chastising the men for not already addressing the stranger. As she walks over she carries herself in a manner that indicates pride and authority. Her stance is that of one who has seen too many battles as she stops far enough away to react and her feet are planted firmly, though the actions don't look deliberate.
The woman doesn't break eye contact as she answers curtly, "You've found her. Continue." Allister gets the sense that she's busy, but is otherwise unaffected by any of his words in particular.
Allister leans towards Lyara and speaks in a low voice. „The Lords Alliance sends their regards. We should find my friend Boosey Sackbut, a place to talk and a mug of strong ale.“ He takes a step back, keeping his eyes on the commander. „Enough of that staredown.“ He relaxes and smiles at her
She breaks eye contact at the mention of the Lord's Alliance and says, "Fine. Meet me in there in ten minutes." after Allister finishes talking. She points to the room directly south of the open courtyard and moves away untucking the stack of papers from her arm crook. She nods to Nenne and Sthara as she passes them by.
„What a cheerful woman. I wonder what she’s like in private... very private.“ Noticing Nenne and Sthara he looks to the ground, passes them, mumbles „Let’s get Boosey.“ and heads towards the bazaar. On the bazaar Allister yells „Booooseeeeyyyy, get your little gnome arse to the temple!!!“
Boosey wanders towards the stables, looking to see if there is a building that looks as if it could be a military store of some kind. Spotting someone who looks as if she might be a soldier of the Flaming Fist he asks, "Excuse me friend. You couldn't point me in the direction of the Quartermasters, I have been reliably informed that they may be able to supply..." he hesitates a moment, thinking that this is going to sound ridiculous, "a cat? I'm on my way to meet with Mistress Portyr, but I just happened by here first and thought to pay a visit on the way" Persuasion 7
The man laughs, but Boosey isn't sure if it's directed at him or the statement. He says, "The provisioner is right there, but you were informed wrong. Flaming Fist only. There's a sign and everything. Anything you need, the bazaar should have." Boosey takes note that he was pointing at the buildings with the polearms propped against them, and that he made a weird face at the mention of cats. He doesn't stick around to talk any further.
Boosey takes a moment to get the layout of the place the soldier was pointing at, then turns to walk back towards the bazaar to find the others. "At least he didn't ask if I was sent to get a long stand", he mutters to himself on the way back.
"So I am guessing no talking to the Quartermaster then?" Funderburk looked about, trailing a bit behind Boosey as he heads towards his friends to meet up. "How are we supposed to meet with the quartermaster? We should meet with the others to find out any plans or ideas."
Since Boosey obviously didn’t react to Allister‘s shouting he walks across the bazaar looking for him and asking the vendors if they have seen a talkative gnome.
Nenne raises an eyebrow at Sthara as Allister passes and falls into step behind him. "That was a pleasant first interaction by our standards, of late," she comments mildly. "As for the captain, she seems like a direct woman. I have special respect for leaders who do not waste time with politics or posturing. It makes conducting business with them considerably more enjoyable."
The party finds each other easy enough and, having no real business to attend to in the short time, finds themselves in the room Liara indicated earlier. The room has two long, darkwood tables and several matching chairs on both sides of each. Sitting at the end of one table near a beaten spot is a small gavel. The room is decorated with various taxidermied animals from the surrounding jungle and a pair of cabinets.
True to her word, Liara comes back in ten minutes from when she said she would. She only comes into the room a few steps, placing herself within easy reach of the door. She looks to each of the five adventurers, meeting all of you in the eye before saying, "Is this everyone? Let's have it then."
"I'm told you are expecting me", and he pulls out a letter for Lyara from the Lords Alliance. "I was sent here to investigate this death curse and report back to my superiors in Waterdeep. The Alliance is getting concerned, as there have already been reports of this curse in the Sword Coast, although naturally they want to keep that as quiet as possible." He becomes more serious. "Having seen this thing for myself and discovered a little about it, my mission has changed. We," and he gestures to the party "would put an end to this curse for good," and he makes a placating gesture to Allister looks like he's about to jump into the conversation, "for one we know it has been caused by an artefact called the "soulmonger", a name not to be spoken back at Port Nearytar." He gives Allister a crooked grin, "And if we happen to deal with a few pirates on the way, I don't think anyone will object.! This is a letter of introduction from the Lords Alliance asking your assistance," and he hands over the paper. "They also told me you know something of this curse?"
Liara listenes to Boosey intently and waits until he is done speaking to read the letter, which she reads twice. With a sigh she says, "To say that I am a member of the Lord's Alliance is reminece of a fond memory. I haven't been a very active contributor for quite some time now. This is not to say that I am not appreciative of what you're doing here - I just want to dissolve any misappropriated expectations." She moves to the first chair in the room and places both hands on its back for support before continuing, "I admire that you've taken up this task, but I fear there is little that I can tell you. I've been swamped with reports of great swathes of jungle laid to the ground and strange sounds all too close to this fort to have put many resources towards finding out about the Death Curse...You might have better luck with camp vengeance of camp righteous in that regard since both of those camps are set deep in the jungle."
Allister lets out a long disappointed sigh. "Well, that is disheartening to put it mildly. We traveled ten days for... nothing. Nearly losing a member of our group to... a statue teleporting her to another plane or dimension. We fought the creatures of the jungle to get here to get nothing. But it seems we know more than you about the jungle surrounding your camp. We ourselves encountered a large patch of destruction on our way, and a near death experience with some fey creatures and giants, yes giants, I´m not making this up, revealed the possible involvement of someone named Artus Cimber. Maybe it´s a name familiar to you." He leans on the table and adds with a smile. "And word in the harbor is you have pirates roaming the bay. If you have any knowledge of a hideout we´d appreciate you sharing that with us, since another piece of information we gathered on our way hints at a remedy, or at least part of this whole puzzle, connected to a pirate cave."
The commander's face sours immediately at the mention of pirates, but goes hard agains as she asks about the giants first, "Giants!? In Chult? What the hell?" Her eyes dart back and forth at intangible thoughts before she continues, "Then I definitely don't have the resources to spare in search of a curse. I won't see this fort fall again." She narrows her eyes dangerously as she says her next words directed at Allister, "Are you saying that pirates, who apparently can vanish, are in league with this Death Curse nonsense?"
"All I know is that we received information via extraplanar or extradimensional, let the sages clarify this, communication that our task to deal with the soulmonger is connected to a pirate cave. And, as I said, rumors in Port Nyanzaru claim that pirates are menacing the bay near the camp. I´m just putting some pieces together that you might know about a pirate cave. Though I´m not clear on this vanishing part."

"Don't worry. I just wanted to see where it was. I'm sure once we've spoken to the Captain they'll accommodate us"

ooc: How did you know that I wanted to scold her for standing there like we´re either a threat or some random petitioners????
ooc: It's a bard thing. Allister looked like he was bursting to jump in, he definitely wears his heart on his sleeve ;)
