“May I take a guess? The statue dissolved after it was defeated but the spear remained. Four golems, four spears, four statues with missing spears. And a hatch we couldn’t open. Isn’t it obvious? They must guard something very powerful or valuable.“
Orvex stops with his notes and thrusts a handful of wadded up papers towards the fighter in a mildly aggressive manner. He exclaims, "Yes, yes, yes! I am with you in this." Allister realizes his 'aggression' is just passion about his work and when Orvex figures out he his wadding up his own work, he tries hard to smooth the pages back out before looking back and asking, "What would be so valuable to keep locked away behind those things? I would rather visit a trash heap invested with otyugh then fight all of them at once again! If what you say is true, then there is an easier way."
„One is already down, so it’s not all of them anymore. We know more about their strengths and abilities than before, so we should figure out a more organized strategy. But everybody needs to rest before we make another attempt.“ He looks around. „If we agree to give it another try.“
Orvex pulls his tunic to the side revealing his own wounds. Staring down at it he replies, "Indeed. I need to dress this puncture wound. Spears are the worst; slashing cuts heal so much faster. Do you think it is safe to rest here, or should we go back to the compound for that?"
"We don't need to fight them again, I think. That whole pit was a pressure plate that activated those golems. They went back down their passage and will have deactivated by now, anyway. As long as we don't step on that pressure plate, we should be fine." The gnome looks at Allister. "I'm not going to apologise for trying to defend a comrade under attack. Anyway, your rope is still attached to those bars. I'm going back in there to collect the equipment that Orvex decided to throw around the temple. I shall return in a few moments."
Boosey walks back inside the temple, and cautiously looks down into the pit. He looks at the rope tied to the bars, pulls out his own and drops it on the ground above where the eastern passage way opens into the pit. From there he makes his way down the next steps to where Orvex had emptied his component pouch, and retrieves his equipment, paying close attention to the wall of the passage on the way down. Orvex follows behind the gnome silently. For a banged up human, he is pretty good at being quiet. He says softly as the pair move around the pit, "It seems you both were right. They are nowhere to be found." Suddenly he looks up at the ceiling in fear, but calms quickly seeing no clay golems up there. As Orvex helps Boosey collect his things he adds, "I really must apologise. You stepped in and put yourself in harm's way here in this hole of murder. I meant what I said in that I am a better fighter. My talents are very situational though. Uhh, from the rear. I am not a brave man in that I can swing a sword toe to toe with an enemy." He looks down and slightly ashamed.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Boosey gives Orvex a withering look. "Bravery is not just about swinging a sword, it's about remaining calm. Your panic could have got everyone killed down here. Running into that pit was one of the most stupid things I think I've ever seen in a fight. We were all frightened, but blind panic is the most dangerous thing of all." He looks down at the sling ammunition spread out across the floor of the passageway. "Pick that lot up and put it in your pouch, then you might have something to defend yourself with. Whatever made you think it was a good idea to drop it all, I'll never know. Oh and Orvex," he looks the man in the eye, "if you ever, ever do something like that again, I will punch you in the face until my fists bleed, and that could take quite some time. Got it!" Allister shakes his head, mutters something inaudible and says „I’ll accompany you, but I need to get something first. I’ll meet you inside the shrine.“ He takes off, goes to the courtyard and grabs the axle from the broken cart. He gets inside the shrine, gets his rope and the grappling hook. Allister cuts two pieces, about one foot long, from the rope and uses the pieces to tie the axle to the grate. He ties the rope to the axle, doffs his armor, squeezes through the bars and uses the hook to fish for his gear. Once he has it, he puts it on the grate and uses the rope to swing inside the corridor where the constructs came from.
As Boosey and Orvex return to the upper level, the gnome watches Allister collect his gear from the pit floor, then in amazement as he swings inside the eastern passageway. "Go and get the others," he snaps in frustration at the scribe. "The fool, we should have rested first before going in there. I'm going to have to follow now." Picking up his discarded rope, he deftly moving through the bars, he climbs down the rope and follows Allister in to the passage way.
Nenne is startled at the fighter's outburst and watches in shock as he and the gnome march right back into the temple. Alarmed, she takes off after them, only to find the temple seemingly deserted and only a rope indicating where her friends have gone. Concern lines her face. "Allister? Boosey?"
„We are inside the passage on the right side. The golems are here, totally motionless, in some kind of cell. I haven’t found anything down here yet, maybe Boosey has better eyes. So no worries , we’re fine.“
Orvex comes to join Nenne in the central room. He looks up at the open ceiling and back around to the statues before his eyes settle on the spear below. He looks to Nenne and asks, "Do you think it is safe to retrieve the spear? It's quite near the edge of the pit..."
Not seeing anything of interest in the passageway, Boosey says to Allister, "What do you think might happen if one of us enters the cell? It could possibly trigger the bars to fall. If we get trapped, the only way to open it would be to trigger the golems again, unless we could destroy them while they are dormant?"
„Let’s not push our luck. Tymora has already favored me today, so better not to step anywhere in there until we rested. But my gut still says the pit is the place where you start a fight, this is just a place for the golems to wait for a challenger. Anyway, we should get the spear and back to our camp for a rest and a plan.“
The gnome nods in agreement. "Well, lets go then. We can recover the spear once we're up top and everyone else is outside the temple. If these things activate, we drop it and run, agreed?"
Nenne slowly turns to look at Orvex. She blinks slowly. "You are already half dead. Would you like to finish the job?" After a pause in which she collects herself, she glances back toward the tunnel where her friends are. "Let them work. I won't have any more deaths over uncontrolled curiosity. You have waited this long to see this city's secrets; surely you have learned patience by now."
„Everyone, wait outside or near the exit. I’ll swing across and grab the spear.“ Once he has conformation from his friends Allister swings across the pit and grabs the spear. The weight surprises him and is pulling him nearly off the rope but he makes it to the other side. Looking at the weapon in disbelief, wondering at the strength the the constructs need to wield it so nimbly he walks upstairs and joins the group on their way to the camp
Nenne sees the spear turn to dust in Allister's hand and, after carefully watching his face for a few moments, pulls a potion of healing out of her pack and hands it over to him silently by way of condolence and apology.

The moment the spear passes the threshold of the shrine entrance it dissipates, wafting away in the wind.
Nenne sees the spear turn to dust in Allister's hand and, after carefully watching his face for a few moments, pulls a potion of healing out of her pack and hands it over to him silently by way of condolence and apology.
As soon as the spears dissipates Allister starts cursing, yelling and rampaging through the yard.
