As Boosey hits the floor, he casts a desperate look to Nenne and mouths the word, "Please!" Boosey's small for sttaightens for half a second as the serpentine form leaves the gnome. The shadow dashes into Moa's staff and then circles Nenne before tightening snugly atound the cleric. The shadow disappears entirely as it is absorbed into Nenne.
Allister slides acroos the room, his rapier still in hand. He hears the growling voice somewhere over his head and stabs upwards. His first attack is deflected by a hard shell, scraping over a stone-like carapace, but the second attack hits a vulnerable spot. Blue fluorescent blood splatters Allister and the floor. When he reaches the huge blanket that covered the central orb he grabs it and throws it to the spot in the air where he hit the creature. With a sigh of relief he sees that the monster is completely covered under the heavy blanket
Seeing the fighter rush into the room and accomplish yet another amazing feat in battle brings a soft smile to the cleric's face. The blues of Winter fade even more as she gazes upon her two friends, and an autumnal peace replaces pewter with bronze in her curls.
"Allister," she calls out gently. "My brave and true friend, let me take care of you." Her words are soothing, and carry healing magic in every syllable. (Healing Word - 9 hp)
"Boosey, Moa gave me an idea to dispel the sphere's magic, since I cannot. It is a risk. If it fails, get yourself and Allister to safety. And thank you - I've come back because of you."
Nenne reaches for her staff and, touching it gently one last time, wedges it between her armor and the sphere that traps her and pulls hard - breaking it in half with an echoing crack.
The snap of the staff sends a ripple of wavering energy through the room in all directions. The air bends weirdly as if time and space were having an argument. Immediately following the ripple is a forceful explosion that rocks the complex. The iron ball and Nenne are sent flying to crash against the rear wall and floor. The moment the ball connects with the floor, a sharp crack! splinters throughout the room and down the hallway. The floor breaks with a spidery mesh of cracks and loses its slick properties. An exclaimation that can only be curse words in a foul language preceeds the utter destruction of the sheet covering the beholder.
Boosey hops to his feet and dashes to Allister's side, making a face at the still-glowing blood from the hidden creature. He gives the fighter some inspiring words (BI) and looks up trying to find some sign of the creature. The small bard steels himself for whatever might come next.
The babbling rises higher into the room and takes in a new tone of rising anger. A thin black beam encompassed in red lightning lances out to connect with Nenne as she gets her bearings. The beam hits the eladrin and she crumples to the ground.
A thin, almost non-exisistant, pink beam connects with Lo's chest and his facial features soften a little.
Allister nimbly dodges a thick and fuzzy, gray beam.
Glimbul hearing the chaos returns into the room seeing the whole situation. “Lo, go pick up nenne and lets run for it! We need to retreat and regroup.” As he says so he tried to make another shot at the still invisible creature. The arrow must have missed as it goes clear across the room. He then retreats back into the hallway.
Watching everything fall, the Goliaths ears begins to ring and he coughs up more blood then before. He staggers yet through blurry vision notices the elf sprawled out on the floor. Lo takes one look back at Glimbul, another to Boosey and Allister, and makes his charge forward.
The great arms of the Goliath easily scoop the frail elf. Coming to a sudden holt, Lo turns his body and begins to rush back to the hallways entrance. A yellow beam arches forth as Lo ducks his head out of the way and clear from its properties. Lo could only say so much before the pain made his grimace once more. "Allister, Boosey! We should not worry about the Beholder now, we have to go!" Lo looks to his back where he carries the elf and can only hope for their team that she is not dead.
Reassurance passes Lo as he watches Allister bolt through the doorway and into safety. His thoughts mingle on Boosey and his safety as he suddenly notices a gray bolt, and dodges it in time. He however, looks to Boosey and calls out his name, stopping short and gasping for breath as a green bolt arches into and up his spine. He stops and begins to stumble slowly to the doorway. His feet seem to blow away, slowly, as the rest of his body follows. He takes Nenne off of his back and whispers to her, With the last of his efforts he throws his body along with Nenne's towards the door.
The party can see the smile on the Goliaths' lips as his body hits the ground and turns to dust. Nenne's body now rests at the doorway.
With the sudden ash pile where Lo stood directly in his line of sight, Boosey's eyes widen in horror. He rushes to Nenne's side, half dragging, half pushing her further into the hallway. He's rewarded for his efforts with a black beam shot through with red lightning right in the back (32 necrotic damage). A thin yellow beam puts Glimbul on the floor asleep. Another red beam just like the one that lifted the sheet hits Nenne just as she regains consciousness thanks to Boosey's healing magic. A shock of alarm and horror is frozen on her face as she finds herself unable to move in any fashion. The gutteral giggling from inside the domed room heightens to new levels.
Allister rushes to Boosey, grabs him by the collar and and turns around. He jumps down the tunnel and shoves Nenne, Boosey and Glimbul into a pile and around the corner, out of sight of the beholder
Still locked in place by the beholder's powerful ray, Nenne manages to grasp her holy symbol and whisper a prayer to Kelemvor. "Have mercy on your servant, god of my salvation, and her valiant comrades." Her amulet glows with a warm red light as she casts Beacon of Hope.
Restrained by the beholders beam, Boosey struggles to reach out an arm, but eventually manages to grab the fighters arm. A soft glow of healing flows through Allister, and he calls through gritted teeth “Just a few more seconds. Hold on and you’ll be clear”, the words giving him inspiration.
The healing energy is a welcome relief to Allister's mounting wounds. The fighter is just about to jump over the still unmoving forms of his companions when the sight of another beam has him jumping backwards before he can register the preservation act. The red beam burrows into the wall harmlessly, but Allister is hit by a thin, yellow beam as he comes off the wall. Nenne and Boosey regain the movement of their limbs and scramble into position to pull the fighter over.
The yellow beam's insidious effect is a slowing one that costs the fighter dearly. A thin, green beam lances into the fighter's left leg, which begins to unravel into a pile of dust. Glimbul's sleeping form mocks the severity of the situation as a second thin, green beam takes Allister in the side of the head. Nenne and Boosey can only watch in horror and absolute disdain as the man that they have called friend and companion for so long literally starts to fall apart in front of them. Red, glittering energy surges around the warrior and Nenne's amulet glows with a bright red glow. The energy collects the falling dust and literally reassembles Allister is less than second. It seems he will not die, here and now in this damnable hallway.
Allister looks at everyone with wide eyes and shock written on his features. He stammers „Retreat“ as he tries to stumble past the group, dragging his rapier for a few feet before losing his grip on the hilt. Like a zombie he walks down the corridor, banging against the walls with nearly every step.
