The cleric sighs and tosses the man some rations from her pack. "Just...eat and try to calm yourself. As I said previously, if you mean us no harm, you've nothing to fear from us. We can explain more about this place when you are ready."
She goes over to Boosey and kneels before him, taking his face gently in her hands. She looks over his altered features as a sadness passes over her. The blue doesn't linger too long, however. An undertone of contented peach rises in her skin and faint threads of bronze emerge in her hair.
"And you wanted to stay behind, today," she smiles at him, voice soft. There's a hint of moisture in her eyes. "I hope you realize we are alive and together because you, Boosey Sackbut, are brilliant and irreplaceable."
The gnome looks sadly at the cleric. It seems that he is just about to reply to her, but the words don't come as he tries to find the right ones. He feels the top of his head, where the horns have emerged from, then just nods and looks at the ground. In his hand, he clutches the flute a little tighter and brings it to his chest, holding it there for some time.
Nenne brings two fingers to her lips, ready to kiss them and give the bard a gentle poke. Instead, her hand falls and she just stares at him as every curl on her head darkens from white to silver.
She looks at him, long and quiet. Then, in a halting and somewhat stiff manner, she puts her uninjured arm around him and pulls him in for an embrace. It's brief and awkward - peculiar for an otherwise graceful woman. She doesn't dare meet his eye when she releases him, either.
Walking over to Glimbul, she says in an undertone, "I am not certain, but I fear the potion from Nangnang's sarcophagus transmuted him. I...I would not consume yours if I were you."
Allister looks at Biff for some time. „Don’t listen to Boosey, he’s had a rough night and is grumpy.“ He turns to Nenne and says. „I don’t know him, I was alone in a bare room the whole time. Just like him. When you broke the mirror you rescued me, thank you for that by the way, and nearly killed me. When you hit it a crack appeared that dissolved my dagger when I stuck it inside. If I had been sitting or standing at this point I probably would look worse.“ Turning back to Biff he asks him „How did you end up here in the first place?“
Nenne struggles to reconcile Allister's words with what she witnessed in the mirror. "What?" she shakes her head. "But I..."
Blood drains from her face and her stare grows a little distant as chilling images and insights flash in her mind. Slowly, she looks over at the slain and the mirror shards, reaching toward them with one hand, when she notices the slick red stains on her gauntlet. She takes them in dully until her hand starts to shake. She lets it rest at her side as her shoulders droop in exhaustion.
"So grateful you're with us," is all she manages to say. After a moment, she adds, "And I am sorry about Kubazan."
After some time the man responds. He looks to Allister and takes a breath to steady himself. "Some time ago, for I do not know how long I've been in that mirror, I traveled with a group called The Yellow Banner. We too traveled around this tomb... this... horrible tomb." He holds his body and shivers, despite there being no chill breeze. "We came upon the mirror and... I got trapped." He looks solemnly to the ground. "I do not know what happened to my party afterwards..."
I don’t trust him. The journal didn’t mention him, he doesn’t recognize your staff and you look like the goatman, but it doesn’t bother him. You read the journal, what do you think?
The mention of the Company of the Yellow Banner pulls Nenne's thoughts back to the present. She casts a sidelong glance at the Chultan and remains very still.
Looking to the group, he looks to Nenne and clasps his hands in a begging manner, falling to his knees as he does so. "I only want to leave this tomb. Everything I have said about myself and how I came her is not a lie. If you have any more questions I can answer them to the best of my abilities! But please... please let me travel with you so I can leave this tomb... so I can see the sun and moon once more..."
Allister breaks Boosey's reverie with his whispers.
The gnome is silent and thoughtful, not rushing to answer. Eventually he looks to Allister and quietly whispers a reply.
"I'm sure the journal would've mentioned him, it is an unusual name he has for one of Chult! If it is the staff that has done this to me, he may have become trapped in the mirror before Devlin changed into a goat. Honestly, I don't care if his story doesn't check out, as long as he doesn't try to harm us. He may even turn out to be helpful. One less thing in this place trying to kill us can only be a good thing," and he eyes the man speculatively. "He doesn't seem much use though. One of us should keep watch on him at all times, but I'll reserve judgement until we can find out more. You are right to be suspicious. You think he could be the doppelganger the journal mentioned?"
Boosey turns to Biff. "I'd be interested to hear of this Yellow Banner group you were with, perhaps they had found things that could help us survive this place? Can you remember anything about your time in here, as too have ended up in the mirror you must have explored this place extensively?"
Biff tilts his head in a confused manner after lifting his head. "If you got this far then you know as much as I. I do not know what lies ahead, nor did my team when we first entered here. I do recall specific rooms. Rooms filled with treasures and puzzles. We discovered gods in tombs and traps... deadly... traps..." His eyes unfocused as he recalls old painful memories. "I cannot help much, I am sorry. I've been in that mirror for so long... I lost my senses. I was trapped. On my end it was devoid of all color, sound, taste, smell.... can you imagine that?" He begins to warily stand up. "I just want to leave. Please do not harm me, for I have no intention of harming you. All I ask is to follow, and once we are out, I will depart and leave you all alone." He once more shows his hands free of any weapon.
"Oh, don't be a fool and sit down," Boosey says to the man, a bit more gruffly than he means to, and waving a cloven hand at him. "If you go out there alone, you will only guarantee that you never get out of here. If you truly want to leave this place alive you will have to work with us, and help us when the time comes." His face turns grim. "I do not know whether your words ring true, but it is clear my friends don't trust you." Boosey motions to Nenne and Allister.
The gnome sighs and rubs his face with his hands, then looks at them in disgust. "I hate this place," he says to no one in particular.
Allister looks at Boosey. „Of course I do not trust him. He’s not telling the truth. You read the journal. He evaded your questions. We know how the Company ended up here, such a traumatic event... and he didn’t say a word.“ He draws his blade and advances. „I give you one chance. Who are you and why are you here. The moment I hear something about Biff, the Chultan who suddenly speaks Common,“ with a thought he sets the blade on fire, „this will go right through you.“
Boosey rubs his face in his hands once more, and without looking at the Chultan says, "I'd very much recommend doing as he asks. Being truthful here will not bring you harm, and be assured that we," he waves his hands in the air, "know things about the Yellow Banner." He looks directly at Biff and his voice hardens. "From a man who had turned into a goat."
Fear flashes in his eyes as Biff begins to cower. He makes no move towards his weapons except to bring his hands over his head. "I told you everything! I answered your questions and you act like I didn't! You bring up some topics that I 'didn't talk about' when you never asked me about them!" Biff begins to shiver and a hint of anger is in his voice, "And what do you mean I suddenly speak common, MOST CHULTANS SPEAK COMMON WHEN THEY REACH 5 SUMMERS OF AGE!!" Tears still brim his eyes but he stands to meet Allisters gaze, giving a slight shiver every couple of seconds. "Biff is my name. And who are you to judge. By the accents you all give off, and the nature of your characters, you aren't chultan. What gives you the right to judge my name and character? I've lived here all my life when I decided to join the Yellow Banner. How long have you been here? What gives you the right to kill an unarmed man? Are you evil?"
Biff looks to Boosey. “You know about the Yellow Banner?” A little bit of hope brims his eyes. “Then you know who I am correct? How did you learn of us? What do you know? Are my friends safe?”
„I asked you how you got here in the first place. And we know how the company ended up in the tomb. If you hadn’t given me that Yellow Banner bullshit I could have believed you. But you gave us a missing piece of a puzzle by saying their name.“ Too fast for Biff to step aside Allister pierces his rapier into his shoulder. The wound is not fatal but painful. „Who are you and why are you here?“
Before Biff could answer the gnomes questions, the sword pierces his shoulder and he screams in agony. Anger and sadness well deep within the chultan man as he begins to speak. "You half-withered dirty old fool! I told you many times that I came to this place in company of the Yellow Banner to fulfill our goal! FOR THE LAST TIME I AM BIFF LONGSTEEL! When my team and I entered this tomb we were altogether. You speak as if they are gone, so I may only assume that when they left me in the mirror, then passed. What am I supposed to know of my team if I have been trapped in a mirror with no escape for too damn long?!" With those words he places a foot on Allister's gut and tries to push him away.
He growls through pain and looks to Boosey and Nenne, not attempting to help him. Angry now he says, "I see how you monsters treat people. Leaving a man to get stabbed by another. Does Devlin ring a bell? Does my friend Seph and Seward appeal to your liking? How does it feel for you that I am being torn apart by having to recite to you the names of my colleagues who I now presume are dead?" He places a hand on his shoulder and one on his head and mutters to himself. "Oh Bravus... where are you..?"
