"Alright short rest then, gather in the alcove and shut the door?" Is there a place in the dungeon where Hawthorne's familiar could watch the room for us?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I will cast Prayer of healing on the party for the short rest. 6 players recover 18 hit points. Since neither I nor Zillah were hurt in the battle, I'll exclude us to get our new friend.
Noted, Geralt looks better. He can now walk on his own but he is still very injured he's favoring his left side.
Shadow
That's up to the professor! Geralt responds, "I don't know. Days, weeks..." he trails off looking around the motley crew before him. "Thank you," he says looking at Elly. "And... your names?" he asks his blue eyes darting from face to face. "How...how long have you been here?" He now asks Shadow. "Have you seen a black haired woman," he now sounds slightly frantic. "She...she's wearing vestments similar to mine," he then adds motioning to his own clothing and you see he's missing three fingers on his left hand the stumps are blacken as if they've been burnt off by arcane energy!
Everyone
Are you all going into the alcove?

"People call me Shadow and we just arrived. I'm sorry, we've seen no sign of anyone outside of this room. If you entered the tower from the island, which door did you choose?" Shadow guides Gerald to the alcove and asks "What happened to your hand?"
"Geralt," he corrects Shadow but bows his head. "I saw no island," he then says curiously. "The tower appeared in my village near the High Ice," he explains. "A lone tower with a single door leading in that disappeared once I walked through it," he explains next. He then looks down at his gnarled hand, "I made...the wrong choice," he answers hiding his hand behind his back.

While settling into the alcove for a short rest you need to figure out shifts to watch the door which you can close but it needs to be monitored for other intruders. Work out shifts and take you rest.

{ Sorry I've been super busy this week and really haven't had time to keep up or post }
Unexpectedly shaken from our experiences thus far in the tower, the professor spends the hour quietly flipping through the spellbook he found earlier, his familiar keeping a keen watch from a perch above him.
The secret passage as well as two members of you party have disappeared!

The only way out of the alcove is back the way you came and through the shocking grasp door or back into the hallway where there could possible be more Orcs or even worse that wait for you! What are you doing!

"I am intrigued by the secret passage, but I don't think I can take much more without resting"

Shadow will gain no benefit from this short rest so he'll watch the door for an hour.

My spell took 10 minutes to cast but I can keep watch as well after. Elly didn't take any damage during the fight.
Elly- Gnome Cleric The Black Maze
To all have had a short rest that has been uneventful. Speaking to Geralt further you notice the maze has had its roll on his sanity.

"The hero sought to save the world.
"If I keep trying, I'll be able to win," the hero thought.
But the harder the hero fought, the further the world seemed to tumble away.
Drowning in doubt, the hero could not even save themselves.
Hero, if you still believe in a brighter future, hold in your heart a thorn that can pierce all doubt."
