"Oh, no Mylene. It’s not that simple. I would follow Kierro’s orders without question if they made sense, and it irritates you knowing that someone might know how to lead better than you do. Some undefinable quality you can’t seem to understand."
He’s farther away now, but tosses back one final parting remark.
"I call that quality the "Not a Complete Ass" quality. You might want to consider investing in it."

"You don’t have to accompany me if you don’t want to. The acolyte in Phandalin gave me this cloak in exchange for a service I was to perform, and I have not done so yet. I would not be known as an oath breaker, no matter what my past self might have been like."
In response to Kierro’s comment:
Latrius grins faintly, and chuckles.
"Aye, mostly instinctive for me as well. I have the feeling I used to hunt bands like that, possibly as a mercenary of some sort."
"The acolyte? Ah, Sister Garaele. She was of much help to us as well - even provided us with shelter for last night. It's good that you're repaying her. Perhaps we should come with - both for helping to repay our own debts to her if possible, and for protection - I'm not sure what else is here in these woods, but the more of us, the safer we are."
At a resting point (not a short rest, just a break in walking) he dons his new mithral armor. "It feels much better - more protective but quieter. I feel less like a hulking metal giant stomping around the woods and making noise." he says, patting the armor's chestplate and smiling.

Mylene - Latrius
"Fly away, free bird. Tell yourself whatever you like, but the fact is Kierro appealed to you because he 'asked' instead of 'ordering.' You wouldn't follow anyone's 'orders,' including Kierro - the notion makes your soul twist and recoil. You might listen to him because he 'asked.' Your freedom and independence are all that you and Honor care about. I'll grant that unlike Honor, you do have a sense of caring for the well being of others, Latrius, much like Kierro and Naivara - you stepped in to aid Walter when Tessa turned on him without provocation, while Honor only laughed and exalted in the chaos - but you act only so long as it is on 'your terms.' Born rebels simply cannot accept the notion of structure. They also cannot hope to achieve or build anything, only to break things. Go find something to break, and stay out of the way of those of us who have a goal, and want to achieve it," Mylene says.
After evaluating Tessa's betrayal and collusion, or lack thereof, with the Bugbears (prior Insight of 15) Mylene will discuss their next plan of action with Brun, Walter, and, if he remained, Leto.
"It seems we've extended the olive branch to the Erased, and received only feral growls in response," Mylene says. "We did slay the Orcs without losing anyone, and we have their loot. The loss of the Bugbears is no true loss, as they weren't loyal to begin with. I do hope the Spider didn't pay them in advance. Not entirely the success we'd hoped for, but not a loss, either."
Sylcan Naïlo: (To Honor, with Vilana, Honor, and Higgul)
Turning to Honor, Sylcan asks, "Best friends, then? Since you remember me, what was our relationship like?"
(OOC: I think we were let out of the combat init, hence this post.)
OOC: Yes, given Brun's tactical assessment, we are out of combat now. Mylene trusts her lieutenant's tactical appraisal of the situation and won't rush off on a battle of attrition at best, suicide mission at worst, for dubious goals. Walter may want to shadow Tessa if he has a vendetta, which is his own risk to take - waiting to see what he decides - but as Mylene and the Redbrands have elected not to immediately pursue based on Brun's advice, there is no moment to moment action at present.
(I assume that we've been walking, so I don't think Honor heard Mylene's last remark about her, FYI.)
"Yes, I remember that I trusted you deeply and knew I could rely on you in a wide range of circumstances, not simply in combat. I can't remember everything, but I could relax with you, even when I was worried about other things." Honor turns her head to Vilana. "And you, Vilana, I also remember, as both reliable and highly skilled."
Vilana was walking quietly, not interrupting while Sylcan and Honor talked, as if deep in her thoughts, but nodded to Honor's remark: "Glad to hear that. It might be instinctive - we knew each other, and though can not remember right away, our souls recognize the connection. There is something I need to tell you. We might take a short rest and while eating and resting, - talk a bit".
Naivara laughs, "But seriously, I can see if I can track down Honor and the others and explain what we're doing. See if they'll wait for us to catch up."
Naivara nods, and takes off, first back to the path, then following it the way she knows Honor and the others were going to find them, running the whole way.
As they are no longer concerned with moment by moment tension, Mylene goes to retrieve the Longbow she dropped earlier, and reiterates her questions to Walter and Leto.
”Walter, what is your answer? Are you determined to seek vengeance now on the halfling who wounded you, and wanting to stealthily shadow the bugbears to see where they go with the sleeping assassin? Or shall we let sleeping rabid dogs lie?”
”Leto, are you with us? Or would you prefer to see if any of those people will be a better fit? I’m determined to seek out answers and they seem content to drift about this world, haphazard. You’ve not been in this world long, but some of your old instincts are likely telling you what choice is right for you, here and now.”
Mylene insight on Tessa / bugbears. You would have noticed Tessa looking a bit surprised by the bugbears coming towards her, clearly preparing to have to fight them. It was not the actions of someone who was working with the bugbears.
Walter to Mylene...
"If you order me into the woods after her I will go." Walter says with a nervous glance in that direction. "If you are willing to let them go, then I am good with that, and we can pay the little ***** back when we see her again..." He clearly is not one bit ready to forgive and forget, but is also quite clearly scared of the bugbears. (Montru had a 22 intimidate against him.)
You come awake as you are set down and find yourself with three very large bugbears around you.
"Never liked Walter..." Vlune says as if biting each words as he speaks it. "Wish you had cut deeper with your tiny blade..."
Montru grins and nods in agreement. Vlar just growls, pacing nearby.
"What you want to do?" Vlune asks you. "I think we should find orcs in hills and see how many of them are left, maybe get treasure they have been taking from others around here. They no need treasure as much as we do after all." He watches Tessa to see what she thinks. "Most orcs dead now, cannot be too many left." He puts in.
"Um..." Naivara says, "hi, ah... you're not going to make it back to Phandalin before dark. It's the wrong way, but Kierro and Latrius and I are heading for Conyberry. Latrius promised the priest in town he'd help her with something there I guess. You could come with us... or if you'd be willing we could meet you in Phandalin once we're done, cause we'd like to keep going with you?"
Vilana looked the ranger with curiosity: "You are going to Neverwinter too? I had an impression you were set to stay here and join forces with Mylene. What made you change your mind?"
Latrius:
‘Latrius smirks as he’s walking off.
"Oh, no Mylene. It’s not that simple. I would follow Kierro’s orders without question if they made sense, and it irritates you knowing that someone might know how to lead better than you do. Some undefinable quality you can’t seem to understand."

"Aye, now you’re a small elephant instead of a large one."
About Garaele:
"Yes, she was very helpful. If you wish to accompany, I should probably tell you about my task. She gave me this—"
He pulls out a jeweled comb and displays it,
"—and told me to give it to a banshee that lives around these parts. She wanted information about some mage’s spellbook."

Kierro, to Latrius:
You see Kierro subtly weave a spell, giggling to himself as he does so.
"Elephant? I hardly think-"
Out of his mouth comes the sound of a baby elephant's trumpet (thaumaturgy), but quiet. Kierro puts a hand to his mouth.
"Oh dear." he laughs. "I should get that checked. The job doesn't sound too hard - it should be quick."
Vilana was walking quietly, not interrupting while Sylcan and Honor talked, as if deep in her thoughts, but nodded to Honor's remark: "Glad to hear that. It is only a couple minutes after you set out that Naivara comes running up from behind you. She calls out, getting your attention with ease.
Everyone...
The time now is around 3 in the afternoon.
Latrius, Kierro, and Naivara can reach Conyberry by nightfall if they head that direction.
Honor, Vilana, Sylcan, and Higgul can reach the half-way point back to Phandalin, but cannot reach the town before nightfall.
Mylene, Leto, and Walter are heading back towards Phandalin too it sounds like, so the same goes for them as the above.
