Jarrett makes his way down to the room without issue. The room is roughly a cube 20 feet to a side with the air pocket filling the top three feet of the room, everyone should fit comfortably. With Borax's light left down there, Jarrett can see that the mechanical apparatus covering the back wall seems inert. A couple gears litter the ground in front of it.
After Jarrett takes off through the water, Faylen sighs. She readies herself for another swim and follows her companions to the room with the mechanical apparatus.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
V'rekh laments that the octopus got away, and follows Faylen. Once in the room he would dive to the floor and examine the mechanism from there (investigation: 18)
Borax follows the others back to the room below. As V'rekh examines the mechanism, he looks for the hinges to see if the door will swing in or out. (Investigation 7). He then positions himself on the best side to see into the room quickly - hinge side if it swings in, the other side if it swings out.
Faylen and V'rekh make their way down the passage to the air pocket with Jarrett. Looking over the apparatus and utilizing his arcane knowledge, V'rekh determines this is some sort of quasi-magical machine that utilizes conjuration magic. However, the machine would need to be repaired to function.
Borax watches as the other inspect the door. They appear to have little luck with the mechanism. Resurfacing Faylen and V'rekh, he hears what they have to say about the door. "Repairs at this stage may be a little beyond our time and means. How desperate are we to get through this door? We could simply break it down."
(OOC)Sorry on the delays, folks. I had a very busy weekend. DM, does this look like something Jarrett could repair quickly? Or a time consuming repair?(OOC)
"Breaking this down may be the quickest way, but also the deadliest, and I much prefer myself all in one solid piece." Faylen swims closer to the door. "Allow me to look for traps first?"
(The mechanism is built into the wall but does not appear to be a door. There is a dark submerged hallway in the opposite direction with a few doors. Based on Faylen's investigation, the mechanism is missing a couple parts and could be easily be repaired by someone with some mechanical knowledge if they had those parts; or the missing parts could possibly be bypassed in someway by someone with significant mechanical skill.)

OOC: I'll assume V'rekh saw the submerged hallway when he was diving.
"I also would prefer to remain in one piece" says V'rekh "there is a passage down there, let me check if there is another way in." He would then dive back to the bottom and start exploring the hallway, using the light from his necklace to see better.
Jarrett fiddles around with the mechanical wall a bit, but he believes he'll need another gear to get it working.
Down the hallway, V'rekh sees a door to either side and one at the end of the hall. All are slightly ajar. The side doors appear to be ransacked closets; one has the remnants of cleaning supplies, while the other has old food containers. The door at the far end has shiny bits of metal glittering on the floor leading up to the door.
Borax had been so fixated on the mechanism that he had barely registered the other hallway. He quickly follows V'rekh, trying to stay in the light shed from his necklace. (OOC: Just confirming, we are underwater, so can't really talk to each other normally can we?) As the two of them come to a stop, Borax touches V'rakh's arm and then indicates that he is going to take a closer look at the area. Moving past V'rekh, he approaches the glittering on the floor. As he does so he is reminded of the coins that they had found previously and wondered if this was some kind of trail they were following. Again, he considered what was ahead if people could afford to drop coins without much thought to collect them.
Uthred is unconfortable, he moves as little as possible, while following the others. As a sailor he is worried about high tide and when it is supposed to happen.
For the moment he does not care much about those mechanisms, thinking
I wouldn't know where to start...
ooc: can I make a survival check to see when the tide is supposed to happen? maybe with advantage because of my sailor background?
V'rekh nods at Borax (OOC: I believe that we are underwater too) and follows him. He points at the door and makes an opening motion with his hands. Then takes a few steps back and aims his crossbow at the door.
(Correct, you are underwater if you aren't by an air pocket. Borax could probably talk but the pitch would be strange and hard to understand)
(Uthred please make an Intelligence (Nature) check with advantage)
Borax approaches the far door as V'rekh watches, the warforged does indeed see a trail of coins on the ground. Buried within them is a surprisingly shiny gear.
Stealth v Passive Perception, 12
Everyone except Jarrett, possibly fiddling with the machine, notices a giant tentacle reaching out from the door toward Borax in the light of the spell. Everyone roll imitative, Jarrett is surprised.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: I thought Faylen was still in the first room with the mechanism, not having followed V'rekh and Borax, since she cannot breathe underwater. I will roll initiative anyway, just in case.)

Faylen looks at the mechanical contraption with a bit of disdain. "I'm a bit out of my element on this one, lads."
V'rekh resurfaces to relay his findings with everyone else "the mechanism looks broken to me and I belive magic was involved in its creation."
