Borax looks at Faylen and indicates toward the box on the beach before moving to pick up the barrel. Hoisting it onto his shoulder, he heads toward the rowboat. "Not the best of days for us, unfortunately, but we got enough to get our passage home."
"I'm glad that we sorted that out easily" says V'rekh as he recovers his backpack and heads for the boat. Approaching Faylen he adds in a lower tone of voice "what do you think we'll find inside the box from the cave?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(a total of 12 silver)
You all manage to reembark onto the ship without issue. Your barrel is hosted on board and you are each paid ten gold pieces for your trouble. Once the cargo has been stored you are left alone by the crew and other groups coming back to the ship. The sun begins drying off your soaked clothes and you are left with your plunder; Faylen's quick grab of coins and the mysterious blue box. There does seem to be a couple groups being left behind.
Faylen sits on deck with her group, settling next to V'rekh.
"Honestly, friend, I'm both excited and fearful to open this box," she says to V'rekh in a low voice, trying not to bring attention to them. She pats the top of the box. "We shall see soon enough, I'm sure. Any thoughts you'd like to share?"
Uthred looks the ship going away and for a moment is a little sorry for the ones left behind, thinking
Poor ones...well, it is the law of the strongest: they knew what they were facing...
when they have enough privacy, he leans back and tend to his till fresh wounds, then speaks to the others:
we will find those desperates when we got back to the island. It is not for pity that I say this: we must be sure to have food for them and maybe even space in the ship we will rent or they will assault us...
Another thought is: what was that underwater place?! I was a sailor and I never saw something like that: any of you have a clue?!?!
anyway, we are on our own now, aren't we? Well, young half-elvess, are we going to open that damn box or what?
V'rekh turns to Faylen, "I had never seen a place like that before, but now I want to see what's inside that box more than before." He rummages in his backpack and nods "if we can't unlock it nicely I do have a crowbar in here."
His attention in the blue box, V'rekh looks back to the islands after hearing Uthred's words "some groups were left behind? It would be honorable to go back for them, but I don't know much about finding my way out in the ocean."
As the ship sails away, the cluster of islands disappears over the horizon and the sun sinks low in the sky. The passengers all huddle off into their groups leaving the rest alone as you trek back to shore. Attempts to open the box appear to be futile; force nor finesse can ply the object open but it's resistance to damage suggests that it's magical. After a few hours of travel you can disembark back onto the docks. Your group is slightly richer and a bit more battered from the experience.
(This brings us to the end of the adventure. Thanks for playing everyone!)
OOC: Thanks for running, and thanks everyone for playing :) I'm going to assume that opening the box is just going to reveal a bright orange light for now.
After arriving back in the small coastal town of Aramoor, the group has time to rest, recuperate, and spend some of their hard earned gold. Things have been sleepy in Aramoor recently and there hasn't been much call for adventuring work. While staying at a inn and tavern called The Silver Tide, you can hear stories sailors bring from across the sea and up and down the coast. The salt air, people and food are pleasant enough, but staying idle will eat away at the gold in your pouches.
It is a particularly busy morning in The Silver Tide, many sailors worse for wear seem to be looking for rooms and lamenting their wrecked ship. Bits of conversation catch your ears in the sunny main room of the tavern.
"I'm telling you, it was restless spirits ..." "We weren't the first. So much money has washed into that swamp." "... and the only thing I remember is that red light in the dark." "Did you see what happened to the captain?"
(OOC just clarifying, are these pieces of conversation all from the same conversation, or coming from different groups around the tavern?)
Borax sat at the bar, in his hands he held a mug of ale that he sipped from occasionally. He had learned long before, that simple, expected actions like eating and drinking, put those around him at ease. And, over time, he had even grown to like some of the refreshments that others needed to consume every day. Still, this particular mug had last for the better part of an hour. This gave him time to contemplate the box back in their room. It puzzled him that it had resisted all of the investigations so far. He had just decided that he would have to think more on it, and it decided another inspection when he overheard the conversation at a nearby table.
"I'm telling you, it was restless spirits ..." "We weren't the first. So much money has washed into that swamp." "... and the only thing I remember is that red light in the dark." "Did you see what happened to the captain?"
He looked up and Jarrett, who was sitting nearby and commented, "That sure doesn't sound usual. I wonder what they are referring to."
ooc: are we implying that what lies in the water cave happened ages ago and/or does not interest us anymore?
because, before finishing the adventure Uthred suggested to rent a ship , a crew and get back at the island to collect everything (if I remmber well there were lots of coins down there)
to sum up, should I role that island part is over or not? I mena, I don't want to get steedling crazy
(The snippets of dialogue are from separate conversations but from the same new influx of sailors)
(It would have only been about a week since your undersea adventure. We can certainly retcon the party hire a ship to explore it more in that time, but I wouldn't want to roleplay it all out. It would mostly come down to a few rolls and risking enough money to hire the ship in the first place if you'd like to go that route)
“There appears to be some interest in recent goings on.” Borax nods his head in the direction of the conversation. “They are debating recovering some lost money, if I read things rightly.”
"You know, they may need some help. I am sure that they would feel gratitude. A reward may even be in order. Maybe I should try and find out more."Borax picks up his mug, now just a little over half full and stands up, intending to go make himself known to the sailors.
Uthred just nods
"yes sir, let's go"
To cut it short
(OOC: How much silver did I hand over?)

Intimidation: 8
(EDIT: Sorry, a little late on the roll!)
Faylen catches the look from Borax and picks up the box, following her companions to the row boat.
"Be wary, friend," Faylen murmurs to Borax, "I doubt we've gotten away that easily."
"I'm glad that we sorted that out easily" says V'rekh as he recovers his backpack and heads for the boat. Approaching Faylen he adds in a lower tone of voice "what do you think we'll find inside the box from the cave?"

OOC: Thanks, DM! Still salty about not knowing what's in the box. ;)

(Oh wow! I was thinking there was more to it! Thanks for running it! Do you have plans to run some more of these one-shots with the group or no?)

V'rekh slowly walks from the bar, carrying a steaming bowl of soup, and sits next to Borax "is there anything new going?"

Uthred thinking about the coins they left under water for the last time, replies
"complaining about loosing money, aren't they? Well, get in the queue"
