Kelnan pivots to get a good look at the centipede on the stairs, and then fires a beam of blue-white light at his target.
It misses, leaving a patch of thick white frost on the wall behind the insect. (OOC: You had disadvantage built into the first roll as you suspected - appropriate for a ranged spell attack within five feet.)
Molo slashes at his attacker, but his knife is again turned by its scaly armor.
The centipede again snaps its powerful jaws at Molo: Bite attack: 5. Piercing Damage: 6
It misses completely.
Reed, Lucky, and Katernin may act. There is just the one slightly wounded centipede remaining, on the staircase directly in front of Molo.

(I suspect the last one is dead but in case it's not)
Lucky will rush in, feeling very brave now he's killed one centipede and there's only one left. He tries to skewer its little head with the pointy end.
The halfling captain cleanly slices the centipede in two, leaving Lucky to poke its remains with his knife. Combat is over. The damp, dank, moldy kitchen is now smeared with the remains of four giant centipedes.
The cupboard and sink are empty. The centipedes evidently entered the room through the sizable drainpipe in the sink.
The open door you entered is on the south, a closed door is on the east wall, and a flight of wooden stairs leads upward. The woodwork of the staircase is decayed, and a few of the treads are missing.

Lucky will begin a detailed search of the room. This is his area of expertise. "I'll be with you all in a moment, this won't take long. " The young burglar will get out his new glasses, pop them on his head and then begin a detailed and organized examination of the room. He'll search for secret compartments and doors, trap doors, anything unusual inside the cupboards etc.etc.
“Well, that was certainly exciting,” Fianna says as she looks around the room and takes in the mess. “glan mé,” She whispers softly and sweeps her hand downwards in front of herself and the insect splatters upon her disappear. ((Prestidigitation))
“Should we clear this floor before moving on to others?”
As Fianna tidies up and makes plans with the others, Lucky puts on his sparkly spectacles, and hunches over to scan the woodwork within about twelve inches.
The stairs, he finds, are in poor condition but still look strong enough to support significant weight, provided you watch your step.
He finds a pair of boot tracks, distinct from yours, that lead through the door to the east. There appear to be no recent tracks on the dusty staircase.
He finds no secret compartments or doors, nor trap doors, nor anything unusual inside the cupboards or elsewhere.
Lucky will obviously relay all this information to his new companions and then put his glasses away. I knew my talents would come in handy some day. I just hope my help begins to reduce some of the animosity they seem to feel for me.
“Got luck, was all,” Fianna replies to Reed even as he starts walking away.
“And thanks, Lucky. Good job on the search. I’d say follow the tracks but looks like we’re going upstairs first,” She continues, and then carefully follows Reed.

Lucky sighs at the halfling's impulsive behaviour. The little one is going to land us all in a heap of trouble. He carefully prepares to follow up the stairs, not wanting to be too near the front, but trying not to be at the back either. He listens carefully as the stairs are climbed, straining to hear anything which might alert him to dangers we are approaching,
Dusting himself off and suppressing a gag at the smell of the dripping bug corpses, Kelnan jams whatever loose objects that look like they might do into the drain the creatures emerged from to plug it up, weighed down with some heavy cookware. "I'd hate to have more unexpected visitors. Splattering bugs is best done outdoors anyway."As the others begin up the stairs, he quietly tries the east door and sneaks a peek at whatever lies inside. Something tricky in here!
Reed leads the group upstairs, followed by Fianna and Lucky. Lucky hears nothing but a cold breeze rattling the old house.
Kelnan opens the door to the east, and sneaks a peek at a small, unoccupied room and a stairwell leading down. This room displays the effects of damp and decay more than most. Mold grows in patches on the floor, walls, and ceiling. A large copper cask, split, discolored and empty, stands under the window, with a small heap of crockery shards on the floor beside it. Stairs lead down into what is presumably a cellar.
Molo follows the group up the loose and perilous stairway in a dead-quiet crouch.
Upstairs, Molo, Reed, and Lucky find a small landing. Another staircase along the east wall climbs to the upper level. This stair has mostly collapsed — only the lowest six steps are still intact, and there is no easy access to the hole in the ceiling to where the staircase used to lead. A heap of rotten timber lies in the northeast corner.
(OOC: For all us Yanks, a reminder that this adventure was originally published in the UK, where the first floor is the one above the ground floor... I'll leave it to Blakey to sort that one out for us.)
Katernin follows the rest of the party, feeling spent, "Let's be careful," she says, "I'm not sure how much I'll be able to heal you from this point on."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lucky decides that the halfling and kobold are building a partnership and are still not trusting him, so he's going to leave them to it. Best off alone anyway in a place like this. They are so noisy. Well the halfling is anyway, always moaning and muttering. I actually didn't hear the lizard-man creeping up the stairs behind me, he's good. Moving his way forward carefully he makes his way to the corner of the landing where it turns south and peeks one eye around the corner to see what he can see.
Upstairs, Lucky quietly peers around the corner. He can see clear down a long hallway to a half-boarded window on the other end of the house. The unoccupied hallway is filled with dust and debris, fallen plaster, and the remains of shattered, decaying furniture. Two doors are open on your left - one ajar, the other wide open. There is also an intersecting hallway presumably accessing the east and west wings of the old house. The far end of the house opens up into an open space on the east - that's a railing, not a wall, on the east as he squints at the far end of this corridor.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lucky quickly pops on his glasses and checks the first section of the corridor for tracks, scuff marks, any signs of passage. He's not coming out of hiding, just looking into the immediate area where we have not yet been.
Katernin looks around the landing and the broken stairs. "I have some rope," she says, "but perhaps we should explore this level before moving up to the next." She takes her own advice regardless, heading down the hallway and looking into the room with the door ajar.
