Fianna looks around the room at the others. "OK, pick him up. We shove him through the door first and use him as a shield, he doesn't wanna talk." Saying it, Fianna will begin grabbing him under one arm, trying to tug him to his feet.
The old man believes Fianna. He lies down on the floor from his sitting position, and begins to squirm away from the door. "NoNoNoNoNo..."
"Okay. Whatdya need to know?" he continues quietly. "Look, I jus' work here. We're just traders, that's all. Lemme go. I'll tell ye' whatever ye' need...."
((We may never know? heh, was a tactic she hoped not to have to make a final decision on...))
"We need the truth," Fianna insists. "Tell us the true story of this house, it's haunting, your role in it and who this boss of yours is... And tell it quickly! The truth buys you your life. The quickness buys you some gold... And the completeness of the tale ensures we hold to our word on regarding the first two points."
While doing her best to be scary and intimidating to the hostage, Fianna also gives looks to Molo, Lucky and the others to finish checking the footlockers and everything else in the room before we have to open the doors or have visitors... Her eyes can be quite demonstrative...
Katernin looks troubled about not being able to save the two people who were already dead, "I'm sorry I couldn't save your friends, but do it for them. It'll be okay," she says with a smile.
"Look," says the old man, nervously, "there ain't no hauntin', 'cept what through that there door. We're just honest traders, we are, movin' goods here and yon. I jus' row th' boat. Longshoreman. Sanbalet's the boss. Talk t' him. We jus' got a nice load 'o brandy. Maybe he'll give you some if ye' ask nice?" His eyes dart around the room nervously.
"Maybe we kin take this outside," he adds, panicky, looking hopefully at the secret door you came in. "We kin have a nice long talk. Ye' got anything t' drink? A little parched, y'know."
Kelnan tries to avoid too nervously eyeing the dead bodies. While he's not worried about ghosts anymore, they're still dead and the partially shattered kid is especially unnerving and starting to thaw.
"That wasn't so hard. And where might we find your boss?"
Looking around nervously, the tied-up old man replies, quietly, "Sanbalet? I dunno. Prob'ly out on th' boat? How 'bout we go upstairs t' talk? We kin all have a little drink an' a chuckle 'bout all this?" He's sweating profusely.
"What are you afraid of?" Fianna asks, leaning in close to the old man. "Smells like you pissed yourself, you're so scared. Tell us the truth, do it now, of we'll leave you bound up down here while we go upstairs and discuss things..."
Fianna shrugs. "Dunno... Suddenly it seems like he'd like that. But he's afraid of something. I think perhaps we do open the door and send him through first. I'm out of other ideas..."
"Nonono," he responds quickly. "Tell ye what. How 'bout I go fetch th' boss? I'm sure you an' he kin reach some sorta agreement. Lemme jus' go upstairs with ye' and I'll see if I kin fetch him." He smiles in a painful, hopeful wince.
Lucky stands by, letting the grown ups decide their next actions. If it were up to me I'd open the door and toss the old man inside. He tried to kill us. I wonder what they'll choose.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Last chance to convince me of the truth," Fianna says, grabbing the old man under one arms and trying to haul him to his feet. "You're going through that there door unless you win me over first."
Fianna struggles to drag him over to the door. ((Athletics check? 3 )) She acts like she is struggling and thus going slowly even if she's not. ((Though she probably is))
Fianna struggles to lift the old man, let alone drag him very far. Nevertheless, the leather-clad thug is quite clear of your intentions.
"Whatcha want? Money? There's more in them lockers," he says, nodding at the remaining footlockers. "Ale? Silk? I kin getcha some. It's just in th' storage cavern. Whatever ye' want! I didn't mean t' hurt no one! Stumpy tol' us to defend th' cellar." He looks at the dead archer on the floor."She didn't say it'd be you... reasonable people. Honest!" He seems genuinely panicky, his sweat mixing with blood and running down his neck.
Lucky watches on, intrigued. Whatever is behind that door really has the old man spooked. Maybe we should reconsider opening it? He moves off towards the foot of the stairs and stands guard, listening up the stairs to make sure no one is approaching from that way.
"Just leave the poor man alone," Katernin says, going to stop them, "I'm sure if we had the chance to react this whole thing would have been resolved differently."

FIanna - Insight check: 19
Fianna senses relief in the old man at the prospect of the party leaving him bound up down here while the party goes upstairs.
The old man nods vigorously and mumbles incoherently.
"That's th' truth!" he adds. "End of story!"
Katernin looks to Fianna, "Well then, shall we head upstairs?"
