Irenia stares at the staff. "I didn't catch the bear's name. I can't speak to animals like other elves. If your gut says we should go to the river at dusk, then that's what we should do?"

I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
The tortle listened to Irenia's response, "funny that, I thought I could understand the bear... I distinctly heard it say they'd drop the man but the man, you heard that part too, right? As for the part where it gave its name, that just sounded like a bearish gibberish to me."
Genesh then looked in the direction they'd taken, "perhaps listening to my gut regarding the staff would be prudent but I'm committed to the group investigating the tavern fire. What do you say, we check to see if the man was dropped or not and if we locate him try talking to him to learn who he is and what he knows? If we cannot locate him quickly... say within an hour or so then I propose that in any event... find him or not that we return to town and not bother with the staff."
Note: Just looking to expedite things, keep them moving. As it seems the group prefers to head back to town to continue investigating the fire, Genesh goes along with that and will forget about heading to the river at dusk.
Genesh turned to Olwer and nodded, "I'm pleased that you agree... by the way, I think that the bear intended for you to have this." The tortle handed the staff to Olwer, "it's yours now."Genesh said simply and politely as he walked away to see about the man.
His back (shell) to the bard as the tortle continued to walk on as he replied respectfully, "you are... most welcome noble bard... it is best for it to be in the hands of an Elf with a knack for magic."
Olwer has the same moment of sudden urge to go to the river at dusk where he holds up the staff muttering incoherently.
(Those of you who go searching, roll survival, it'll be for one hour of looking around. Those who dont, specify what you are doing while those are doing that.)
Genesh will continue to follow the trail then, giving time for anyone wanting to go with him to catch up to go together.
Note: If alone and the hour runs out and he didn't catch up then Genesh will turn around and head back to the town to meet the others. If someone or all the group went with Genesh following the trail then at the end of the hour the characters can talk and decide to either continue to follow the trail or return to the town, as the group prefers. I am good in any event.
Genesh will nod at Irenia, "thank you! I am pleased for... and could use the company and possibly the help. Who knows what we will find or run into."The tortle said as he continued on leading the way...
Notes: I am not sure if Elisha is following along with Genesh as well... or going another way, no problem whichever. If with Genesh and Irenia, assume the tortle acknowledges and thanks Elisha as well. Didn't want you thinking he was rude or something. ;)
Elisha is following Genesh and Irenia...trying to track the big man with the bag. He wants to find the man in the bag. That is where y'all are headed right?
Olwer pauses to cast his gaze upward through the boughs, as if gauging the position of the sun, and then walks on.
As he follows the others, he remains alert for any noises or cries that might hint at the kidnapped person's location or the approach of some hostile beast.
Less than an hour, maybe 45 minutes, after entering the Forest, you all come to the end of the frantic trail, where it looks like the two had finally stopped running. They weren't here, but the bag was, and it was snoring something fierce.
Opening the bag and turning upside down, a man falls out, and looks up to his rescuers as if he hasn't seen light in days. Then he responds in a rude and irritating whine, "Did either of you bring coffee or is that too much to expect at this point?"
Then he sees it is not two people, but rather more. His face changes to that of absolute shock, and he turns left to right looking for someone else. He drops to his knees and begins apologizing for no reason asking for you not to hurt him.
"The pair of them sent us to get you after they ran into trouble with the guards. It's a good thing we arrived in time for the pickup! We were not given much information before the meeting was cut short, so you'll need to fill us in."
Genesh just looked at the man and politely interrupted Olwer and suggested, "we can speak to this man during our journey back to the town. I do not think it wise to linger here for too long. So let us escort him back, shall we?"That tortle said as he turned and started to walk back towards the town.
Note: I just think they can talk and walk at the same time and since they were planning on heading back to town anyway might as well save some time. In any event, with or without his companions Genesh will head back to town.

"That sounds good, Genesh."

Olwer takes the staff with a "thank you'' and then hikes after the tortle.

Genesh Survival 24
Genesh wanders into the wood exactly in the direction the bear and runner were headed in, expertly tracking both by heavy foot print.

OOC: I posted at the same time as Owler. Didn't want to screw up his question so, I deleted mine.
I will insight check his answer though - insight: 21

Irenia nods. "I like that idea" as she moves forward to see if anyone is around them.
