"Ikki, Blaire, quick hide!" Rinn says as he sees the camp full of strangers and the dragon in the air. Rinn will dash (action, 60ft total movement) to the closest possible cover, then hide (bonus action, stealth: 8) while getting his short bow ready.
OOC: The breath weapon damage is nuts! I'm going to recon it down to unconscious for the level 1 players. While this encounter is by the book at the moment, I am not in the mood to annihilate the party at the first introduction. If you are adamant your PC must die, roll a new character! I'm about having fun.
The dragon grabs up the three mercenary icicles directly in front of it, one in its mouth and one in each front claw and flies off.
Blaire and Eli proceed to tend to the unconscious ice and frost covered individuals suffering from Hypothermia. Stripping the three of their cloths and covering them up with what they can while building up the fire.
Wolfsong, Robwin, TT - you are all at 5 HP and one point of exhaustion. (Unless you decided your PC is dead; let us know.)
Blaire is very loudly chastising Rinn: "We can all $%^*& see you; for #$%^$; pull some blankets and whatnot! These three need to warm up!"
Eli to Ikki: "Hey! Please get over to the windmill and get Ms. Gwynn!"
((OOC: assuming someone tended to Robwin in time or he stabilised naturally, RAW I think he might have survived anyway thanks to the lucky save and his absorb elements spell))
As Robwin comes to, freezing and shivering, he sees strangers tending to him and his remaining companions: drying them off and attempting to warm them. None of what’s just happens has truly sunk in just yet, and he’s just in survival mode...
Once he has some of his wits about him, from his prone position, sensing this is life and death, he begins weakly (desperately) casting shape water to dry everyone out: carving the shapes of ancient glyphs in the air with his fingers, to move water and ice away from the party.
As needed, he’ll also intermittently casts prestidigitation too, to warm people’s boots and clothes.
Initially he’s concentrating perhaps more on himself, knowing he can help others more once he’s properly up himself, then he goes about helping everyone else...
((if Robwin had been stripped right down, some people may have noticed an elaborate starburst of scars on his chest over his heart, some relatively recent, others decades old))
Rinn chuckles as he ducks over to help warm up the newfound icicles. "Gotta make sure I'm not gonna die otherwise no one can bring you back to life." He laughs at this comment and continues to warm the others.
As Robwin comes to, Rinn tries to steady him, "Easy there, mister. You got frozen real good. Just take your time." Then, as Robwin starts using prestidigitation, Rinn watches on, mouth agape, "That's cool!"
Robwin looks up at the man that’s come to steady him, “I’m okay. Thank you. I’m fine... truly...”, then, recognising something in the other man’s features and their shared lineage, he says, “It’s good to see another of our kind, brother, thank you again...”.
Pulling the blanket around himself and looking about, he asks, “Where are my things? My clothes?” then looking around properly, “Where are the others? The others!!? There were three more of our party?!”, panic rising in his voice.
Rinn brings a hand to his pointed ears at mention of "our kind" from Robwin. "There were three taken by the dragon. But you and a couple of others made it alright," Rinn points over to the others being warmed up.
The one Eli calls Ikki nods before jumping into the sky, beautiful green feathered wings extending and beating against the air. Some might call him a man-bird. His body appears mostly humanoid, but with a bird's head. He is covered in plumage — mostly green, but with a white chest and accents. Upon his head, above his red-brown eyes, is an impressive crown of feathers of yellow and red. The only clothing he wears are black, billowing pants. Strange scaled feet stick out of the cuffs. He holds his spear in both humanoid hands as he angles toward the windmill in search of help from Ms. Gwynn.
The elf that was speaking enthusiastically at you is quieted when a young human woman pushes his shoulder hard.
"Three folk just got eat by a $&%##*&^ dragon Rinn! Try not to be so $#@#$ cheery!"
The woman has long red hair, braided in three heavy ropes, hanging down nearly to her calves. She has striking form and features, for a human, with a wild and somewhat menacing edge. She wears a black leather choker around her neck from which hangs the holy symbol of Valkur. She wears a leather vest, black with a blue center piece and bronze trim, tied together with crisscrossing straps of cloth, which match the crisscross straps of cloth on her arms and the leather guards worn over her elbows and wrists, also black with bronze trim, black shorts, and thigh high black boots with bronze accents and blue overlay near her feet. Her visible arms and armor consist of chain mail, a shield bearing the holy symbol of Valkur, and a Warhammer hanging on her side.
"What's your name? How are you feeling? That blanket 's mine. The other two Rinn here pulled from that tent over there.", she points.
"Your garments and belongings are drying over there.", she points to a stone burial cairn near a new fire that's been banked for heat.
"If you find a $%&* thing missing, check this one.", she thumbs to Rinn smiling aggressively at Rinn.
Ikki flies to and bobs — hovering — before the window. Clicking his beak three times in rapid succession, Ikki turns his head to blink one red-brown eye at Ms. Gwynn. "Come quickly. A dragon has attacked. Need *click* help *click*." He extends one arm and finger, pointing back in the direction he came from.
Eli calls across the fire pit to Rinn, "Hey! Rinn, they had water boiling. Would you use one of your brews? It would make three doses, right? One for each of these poor sots."
As TT begins to finally stir her eyes blink open. Confused why shes wrapped in strange blankets it takes a few moments to remember what happened. In a bit of a panic she begins to look around frantically. "That thing came out of nowhere! Where are Blenn, Caz and Tess? We have to help them!"
Wolfsong groggily opens his eye, his whole body sore, he shivers lightly but the shiver then turns into a laugh as he pulls himself to a seated position.
"I came to hunt a manticore, but by the wilds I found something far greater," Wolfsong laughs as he gets to his feet pushing past the aches in his body. He takes a look around the camp, taking stock of the new faces and those that were missing.
"They are gone TT, a shame to lose Caz and Tess I was just starting to enjoy their company," Wolfsong answers before turning to the new faces at the camp suspiciously. "Hail, if you are after gold you won't be finding much here, nor much in the way of supplies, if it is something else you seek then speak."
"Three folk just got eat by a $&%##*&^ dragon Rinn! Try not to be so $#@#$ cheery!"
Rinn looks across, not annoyed or upset at the comment. "Yeah, but at least we didn't get eaten! I say that's something to be happy about." He beams a big smile.
Eli calls across the fire pit to Rinn, "Hey! Rinn, they had water boiling. Would you use one of your brews? It would make three doses, right? One for each of these poor sots."
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that tea," Rinn rifles through his bag and sits down to boil the remedy, "I hope it tastes alright. It shouldn't take too long!"
At the news that three of his companions were killed by the dragon, Robwin sits down hard, with his head in his hands, "I wasn't fast enough... not powerful enough...". He stands and looks Rinn square in the face "I had a professor who could throw up a wall of energy, or a protective dome, like 'that'!", he snaps his fingers. "What good am I? I could barely protect myself!...". He storms round in a circle, muttering. Upset and angry at himself...
He comes back to Rinn. He pushes the blanket back into Blaire's hands "Here... Thank you...", and makes towards his things. With an almighty effort, using shape water again, he draws the last of the water out of his clothes and sets about dressing himself and gathering a few things about his person: his pouches, a small wand, his scroll case. ((what time of day is it roughly?)).
He returns to the group looking like a mess but dressed. He feels for a leather fob sewn into his robe, and casts mage armor on himself. With a faint 'shhhhh-clinkk' sound, a brilliant orange/white breastplate materialises around his body. It crackles and shines with energy for a second before seeming to almost disappear, only some of it's sharp edges showing briefly as he turns or moves past the campfire light nearby.
He moves swiftly back to Wolfsong and TT to check they’re okay, and then eventually almost collapses into a kneeling position beside the fire: drained, shocked, angry, sad... He will accept tea if he's offered it ((is it magic?)).
Then almost forgetting but suddenly remembering he looks around franticly, but then settles back again and raises his right forearm. He makes a quiet 'click-click' in his cheek (like you would if you were calling a dog or a horse) and a small white-and-orange-feathered owl appears perched on his arm. He leans forward and rests his head tenderly against the owl's forehead, "Oh, thank the gods, Lia, my wonderful, beautiful girl... You're safe... I couldn't save them. I couldn't save them... But I'm so glad you're safe!". Lia gently nuzzles her face against Robwin's before stretching her wings and shaking out her feathers. "Can you scout for me? Keep watch over us, over the camp? If you see anything you come back here, do you hear?! Don't be a hero!! You come straight back", and with that she flutters up into the sky with a screech, to circle about 90ft above, keeping watch ((+3 perception with advantage, plus 120ft darkvision)).
Robwin will drink his tea, kneel by the fire, and stare into the flames for a while...
"They are gone TT, a shame to lose Caz and Tess I was just starting to enjoy their company," Wolfsong answers
TT: The Half-Elf squat down next to you is dressed in chain mail, a plumed helmet clipped to his belts, a shield with an emblem (a staring eye on an upright left hand gauntlet) on its back and a longsword at his side. "TT, is it? I'm Eli. I'm afraid your large companion is correct. It is a miracle you three survived that attack at all. You did injure the beast. It's probably the only reason the thing grabbed what it could and flew off."
