The townmaster’s hall has sturdy stone walls, a pitched wooden roof, and a bell tower at the back. The job board next to the front door features a sparse number of notices, all written in Common and in the same hand.
It is two buildings south of the Inn and facing south.
Following supper, Ikki left the Inn and camped just outside of Phandalin, but returned for breakfast (1 sp, 5 cp subtracted). He couldn't help but overhear about the job board, so the green-feathered bird man followed the group from the Inn to the Hall to see what was posted. He walked about 15 feet behind, slightly hunched over as he usually is when standing and walking.
Personal note:: Ikki is "interacting" exactly like a military macaw who is very interested... almost parallel play ... so funny! Great!
There are currently three notices.
“Dwarf prospectors found ancient dwarven ruins in the mountains southwest of here, and have been working an archaeological dig seeking treasure and relics. They need to be warned that a white dragon has moved into the area. Take the warning to them, then return to Townmaster Harbin Wester to collect a reward of 50 gp.”
“A clan of reclusive rock gnomes resides in a small network of caves in the mountains to the southeast. The gnomes of Gnomengarde are known for their magical inventions, and they might have something with which to defeat the dragon. Get whatever you can from them. If you bring back something useful and don’t want to keep it for yourselves, Townmaster Harbin Wester will pay you 50 gp for it.”
“The local midwife — an acolyte of Chauntea named Adabra Gwynn — lives by herself in a stone windmill on the side of a hill a few miles south of Phandalin. With dragon sightings becoming more common, it’s not safe for her to be alone. Urge Adabra to return to Phandalin. Once she’s safe, visit Townmaster Harbin Wester to claim a reward of 25 gp.”
Eli will look around to his new friends and say: "Well it looks as though there is no shortage of work. Does anyone have a preference of jobs? Also, does anyone know how to claim one?"
DM:: Anyone who grew up in a municipality (small to large) with even a small amount of interaction with the society and an intelligence of ten or higher is familiar with the townmaster typically posting quests as needed. A note taken is generally left off the board for a tenday before it is posted again if unfulfilled.
Rinn: You are familiar with Harbin Wester, Phandalin’s duly appointed townmaster who lives in a house east of the townmaster’s hall. You haven't seen him at the townmaster’s hall or out of his house in maybe a tenday.
Ikki clicks his beak. "Excuse me," he says, his head jerking from side to side to try to look at everyone. "Might I *click* join you on this adventure?"
Rinn smiles at Eli, "Ol' Harbin is the townmaster here. He has a house just down the way if he's not here, but I've not seen him for a bit. You can turn in these notes to him once your done."
He then turns to Varius, "Haha I like the sound of that one too. Rock gnomes are good at tinkering. We might find something cool there." His smile is beaming now with excitement.
Rinn eyes the feathered man, having read about them in his younger years, but never meeting one. "Sure... Ikki. I've been waiting for adventure for a while now. Not gonna stop someone else from enjoying it too!"
Eli looks at Ikki and says: "your more than welcome to join us my friend. It looks as though we have the makings of a good adventuring party. It looks as if we are looking for mountains South/East of here. Do you know anything about them Rinn?"
DM:: Yup, I had looked before I asked for the roll.
Rinn:: You're an intelligent one and you listen. As you understand it, the caves of Gnomengarde are carved into the base of a mountain southeast of Phandalin, around a narrow waterfall. The rock gnome wizards who occupy these caves form strategic alliances with their human and dwarf neighbors as needs warrant. Reclusive and secretive, the gnomes craft minor magic items and useful, nonmagical inventions to pass the time. In these endeavors, their failures outnumber their successes. They seldom stray far from home. You also know Gnomengarde is jointly ruled by a married pair.
Rinn recalls what he'd heard about Gnomengarde and relays it to the others. "I'd be keen to see what little tinkerings the gnomes have come up with," he smiles, "It's not too far away. And apparently the waterfall is pretty too."
GM Note:: Night's discussions were had and a small advertising party formed.
PC:: Subtract 7 sp for a night's rest, 1 sp for dinner, 1 sp per mug of beer or ale and 5 cp for breakfast.
Rinn:: if you stayed in the prospectors bunks, subtract 3 sp instead of 7 sp and catch up with the others in at the Inn or townhall.
PC:: Who raises when and how functional are you? Do any of you need to talk to Seara about an arrangement to pay off that tab?
@Izraal1 :: No worries! We'll figure out how to work you in.
“I say, instead of every one paying, let’s have a contest, a drinking contest, loser pays, any one up for the challenge?” Varius suggests.
"Haha you can keep your contest, but I'd love to see who wins," Rinn grins.
The next morning, Rinn would rise nice and early. Wide awake and raring to go. The group will find him hanging around the job board.

Rinn: Roll INT History/Investigation
