The party exits the ball they were in and reenters the one they where in. They follow the hall they could have chosen instead of the doored on. The torchlight illuminates the dim passage and shows the fine coating of dust left on every surface. You notice that the portraits hanging on the walls every twenty feet or so are empty. Where a figure once was painted, torn canvas now fills the frame. The party walks along the 90 foot hallway, passing multiple doors as the tug on your minds gently begins once again. At the end of the hallway, you feel a nudge in your minds that indicates the nearest door at the towards your right. The gray, mushroom-like material of the door is pockmarcked with age. At your approach, the door handle slowly twists and the door ominously opens a little with a slight squeal of rusted hinges.
Inside, you can see a room draped in shadows. It extends about 30 feet back and is 40 wide. An ancient, faded red rug covers most of the floor. Pushing the door open farther, you can see spreading across the wall to the right is a large tapestry. You are too far away to make out any detail. In the left corner, a bed collapsed by the weight of ages litters th floor. Near it against the left wall is a large bookcase with crumbling books and scrolls on its sagging shelves. Right next to the door towards the right, a dresser haphazardly stands. As you peer around the room, you see movement flicker in the corner of your eye ((like when you're alone and you swear you see a shadowy figure dart through your house even though you know you're alone)). A pile of ash and cinders stains the rug between the bed and the bookcase
Aimon, you hear in your mind, " That's the tapestry. Now you just need to find the key in the room." She pauses for a moment before saying, "Finally, she's not paying attention to me. I wanted to talk to you more, but she was getting suspicious. My name is Dawnbringer, and I'm a sword. I know it sounds weird, but it's true. When you got close to this accursed castle, I could feel your presence. I was trying to guide you, but she was watching me too closely. Right now, you are above me and to my right. If you find the key, it will open a passage into her tomb. There is another passage hidden underneath a sarcophagus of one of her servants. The passage leads you to her coffin, and I'm stuck in an invisible chest next to it. Be warned, she is formidable. "
((It's not letting me change the color of all my dialogue. Sorry. Also, the autocorrect on my device is super aggressive. It changes the words I want into completely random words, and I don't always catch them.))
Aimon stops in the middle of the room and turns to the others.
"Okay. So, let's start by saying, I'm pretty sure I'm not losing my mind, but ," he pauses thinking that there's no way this doesn't sound crazy. "the voice, well, um, she says she's a sword called Dawnbringer and she's trapped in an invisible chest."
He steps closer to the tapestry to get a better look at it.
"Whatever the sword is scared of is in coffin, and has apparently awoken."
He turns around looking at all the corners of the room.
"We need to find a key," Aimon says, shrugging sheepishly to the group. "in order to go fight some undead creature to rescue a sword."
Oak follows the others into the room, stows his axe, and swings his torch In a long, slow arc around, taking it all in.
”Well, crazy as it sounds, we’ve all felt the tugging in our mind. There’s definitely something going on... And there IS a tapestry after all, so there must be something to it... ... Hmm, I’ll take the dresser by the door. A ‘key’ you say? Alright...”.
Holding his torch high, Oak starts to search the dresser for the key.
Oak, at your and Jimjar's searching, the dresser collapses into pile of rubble. Searching through the debris, you find a small, crystalline vial the size of a grape full of a shimmering, jade green liquid.
Aimon, even with you and Eldeth perusing the bookshelf, you're a search comes up empty handed. The tomes and scroll are very delicate and fall apart at the slightest touch. You do recognize the writing as elvish, but it is an ancient form of it. It is so archaic, it is almost considered a different language.
Caelynn, you and Topsy search the remnants of the bed. After a few minutes of searching, you come across a book hidden within the mattress. Unlike the books on the shelves, this one is in pristine condition. The covers of the book appear to be made out of some sort of red stone. A brass lock holds the book together. An ornate symbol decorates the front and back cover.
Trill, you and Sarith inspect the tapestry. A figure draped in gray cloth with shadows obscuring its face dominate the tapestry. It's hands are outstretched towards countless individuals bowing down towards the figure. The figure bears an uncanny resemblance to the sentinel statues you fought the previous day. Just as you are about to give up, you notice a very small, golden key stitched into the decorative borders of the tapestry. Looking closer, while it is stitched, the texture is different than the surrounding fabric.
Oak starts rummaging through the old dresser. But no sooner than he does, it collapses into pile of rubble...
“Oh no! Oops!.. Sorry. Don’t know my own strength sometimes. Oh hells!... ... hold on, what’s this?...”.
Searching through the debris, he finds a small vial shining in the torchlight. He gingerly picks it up, and it looks incredibly tiny and fragile in his meaty hand.
”Trill? Someone?.. Maybe someone with a delicate touch should look after this one! Anyone know what this is?? ..Not a key. That I know!”.
Oakpockets the tiny vial for now. And while everyone is occupied with the tapestry (just on a hunch) he lifts the edge of the faded red rug, to have a look underneath...
Trill is keeping to the middle of the group, crossbow at the ready.
