Brunella starts to run up the stairs to protect Felix, then hesitates. She and Gertrude fell to the floor, and the gargoyles did not wake up. They attacked and fought, and make a lot of noise, but the gargoyles did not wake up.
Then Felix started to come down the stairs, and two gargoyles woke up.
What if running up the stairs will wake up the last gargoyle? If one more gargoyle wakes up, they will die. What if others running down wake it up?
"Stop!" she calls to Artus and Dragonbait. "Do not come down, it could wake the last gargoyle! Take cover and fire instead. Let Gertrude and I lure them to us."
Brunella throws two javelins at the second gargoyle. She screams a primal scream at it.

Brunella's heart sinks as she sees not only Felix being ripped apart, but a third Gargoyle activate and fly up on heavy wings. She knows that magic must be their salvation, and quickly. These stone guardians will surely kill them all.
Felix can help but feel numb, as the Gargoyles tear into his flesh. He thinks to himself "This is it....I can finally be with my family..." His conscious fades and he passes on.
