OOC: Sorry for responding so late. I had a lot of work piled up on me.
Back when Venovar was in the sewers, he would have asked "Why would Mom write a letter down here? That just doesn't seem right to me." He would then make an Insight check on the letter and the ring after his long rest, casting Bless to see if this is really his mother's handwriting. 7 + 2(Bless) + 1(Thorvin's Guidance; I would assume that for most of my ability checks that Thorvin had cast Guidance.)
After he checks the letter, he would meet up with the party. "I think we should find somebody for my mother before we go back down. That's my game plan."
EDIT: Disregard me casting Bless, it's only for attack rolls and saving throws. Just found that out.
Thorvin, you purchase the map of the city. It has most of the major landmarks listed. You can see that the temple of Oghma is much closer to Venovar's mother's residence than the temple of Tyr.
Will you go to the temple first, or go see Venovar's mother now instead? Or something else?
OOC: Thanks for the advantage! Very generous of you.
"Maybe we could have some people stay with her, and others go to find help. Also, this ring that we found... I've not seen her wear it, to my knowledge. It might be best if I stay with her."
Venovar will listen to the other's opinions and if nobody objects, will check on his mother.
Thorvin will say: "Aye, Go check on your mother. We will check the Temples. I will start at the Temple of Oghma. Anyone who wants to join me is welcome or we can do as suggested and split up to visit both."
"Like I mentioned last night, I'm not really a 'temple guy', so if we're splitting up, I'm better off joining one of you than trying to convince them on my own."
((OOC: I'm trying to play off Gotur's 8 CHA as more a cluelessness of the trappings of civilization, and the initial response a big half orc gets, rather than him being surly or unpleasant.))

Venovar, please roll a straight d20, with advantage because you are checking on her immediately. Also, I will need to know specifically who is going with Venovar.
Thorvin (and whomever else accompanies the dwarf), the townsfolk seem cheerful as you walk to the temple. It is approximately 30 minutes from Venovar's mother's house, give or take a few minutes. The temple of Tyr would've taken at least an hours walk.
You arrive at the temple which is situated on the river which splits the city in half, close to the city limits.
There are many townsfolk here performing various prayers and meditations. It is simply serene in here. Lots of vegetation and beautiful architecture. And very well guarded.
You are greeted by a female elf priestess. She was about to use some type of holy item, and then sees you enter and walks over to you with a friendly smile.
"Greetings, friends of Oghma. How may I be of assistance on this beautiful day? Have you come for some meditation and reflection? Or perhaps some healing?"
((Gotur will go where the others ask him to, he doesn't feel like he's a good choice to ask the priests for help solo though. So if anyone wants a big druid tagging along, he'll join you!))
((haha! Venovar, confirm if you're cool with the half-orc tagging along to go see your mom... or if this is something you feel is too personal to bring anyone. Alton and Thorvin are in the temple, and can respond to the priestess))
Alton would groggily sit down at the table as they’re talking and just kinda sit there rubbing his eyes for a little bit.

(It's no problem at all! I appreciate all of you sticking with this - I'm enjoying it a lot)
You're right about bless, but you get the 1 from the guidance.
Venovar, given she is your mother, I think you'd have advantage on that insight roll. Here's the other one just to save time: 18 so that's 18+1=19.
Yup... it's her handwriting. Seems she hired someone to go recover her ring before you arrived in town. Which she didn't tell you about.
Also, while you haven't seen your mother wear this particular ring, you can tell that it is a Ring of Protection.
(did anyone buy that map?)
Thorvin will purchase the map and ask Venovar: "Do we need to go check on your mother first or try to find a Priest? Which Temple do you want to try?"
Looking at the map....which is the closest to Venovar's Moms?
(OOC: I too am enjoying this campaign & I think your doing great running it....We have threw you a few curve-balls during it!)
Also, will you go to check on Ven's mother first, or seek out the temple now? Or return to the sewers first?
(Great! Thanks!)

(for simplicity, we will assume the Temple of Oghma will suffice)
(so, is Gotur with Venovar, and Alton and Thorvin are at the temple?)

Gotur can tag along. I have a feeling of what that dice roll could imply, and that scares me, so yes, please come. Venovar also has the ring with him.
