Can he make a check to see how recent the attack was?
Not long a day or two at most. This place is crawling with scavengers detritavores and fungus thriving in the warm humid air. Dead things don't hang around long here.

You note, as you walk, 3 menga bushes. You are able to harvest 15 ounces of leaves.
MENGA LEAVES
The dried leaves of a menga bush can be ground, dis- solved in a liquid, heated, and ingested. A creature that ingests 1 ounce of menga leaves in this fashion regains 1 hit point. A creature that ingests more than 5 ounc.es of menga leaves in a 24-hour period gains no additional benefit and must succeed on a DC 11 Constitution saving throw or fall unconscious for 1 hour. The uncon- scious creature awakens if it takes at least 5 damage on one turn.
Leaves must be dried for at least 1 day before they can confer any benefit.
Huarache has been mentioned to be knowledgeable of the flora of southwestern Faerûn, so I will assume that he recognizes the thing as dangerous and not something to electrocute, as Coyote mentioned in the PMs. Has it noticed us, and if so, is it immediately hostile?

I'm saying since someone passed the roll, which I think is more appropriate than a perception check, since everyone can see it, just not recognize it. I reason survival since you found it while actively scrutinizing plants. At any rate, you all know it's there.
It is predatory and not very bright, so more hungry than hostile. It hasn't moved yet, so it's hard to tell if it noticed you, but it is actively hunting for things like you, so the safe bet is to assume it has.
Dorian's going to prep a Acid Splash and back away, quietly pointing it out to the others to see if we can't stay out of its reach and move away without engaging.
As you slowly move away from the shambler, you notice movement in the trees all around you. You hear a faint crackling sound produced in short bursts. Emerging from the leaves, you see these little guys.
You spot 3 of them. They're arranged in a semicircle around you.

I decided to show you all 4 lizards. Hiding 1 would have been too confusing.
Initiative: Monsters: 19 Heroes: 3
monsters go first. (Just noticed I forgot to add Echo. Its geting late... she's 1 square right of Huarache) //If anyone has a problem with this manner of setting up maps, let me know in the comments thread.

Round 1, monster initiative.
Shambling mound: advances 20ft toward Leann.
Shocker lizard 1 (North) moves to the square above Dorian.
Shocker lizard 2 (East) moves 1 square to zap Tel
Shocker lizard 3 (South) moves up one square and bites Shutorn
Shocker Lizard 4 (SouthWest) moves to the square left of Dorian and combines his electric field with SL1, creating an Lethal shock (20ft radius, affecting Dorian, Leann and Samogri) centered on SL4.
SL1+SL4v.D,Sa,L: 10 lightning damage, half on DC 12 DEX save
SL2v.T: 12 lightning damage, half damage on DC12 Con save
SL3v.Sh: 5 for 4 piercing damage
Players turn (and saving throws. take your time; I'd like to fix the map with grid coordinates, add number labels on the surviving lizards, and place Echo on the map.

Shutorn draws his dagger and politely asks his familiar, Miss Lovelyshine, to fly around and distract the little shocker lizard as he gives it a good stabbing.
Dorian will use his reaction to cast Absorb Elements and halve the damage regardless, and gain resistance to lightning damage until the start of his next turn.
For his action he'll cast Pulse Wave - the 30 foot cone should hit not only the lizard to his left, but also the shambling mound. Both need to make a DC 15 CON save or take 31 force damage and be pushed back 15 feet. On a save, half damage and no push.
The owl will help anyone attacking the lizard to the north of him.

While gathering the useful leaves, Dorian and Leann become aware of the presence of a shambling mound 30ft West of the menga bushes.

"Let us keep moving." Leann says in a soft voice, waving the others along, not wishing to fight the thing if they do not have to.

Huarache sighs and pulls out his blunderbuss, knowing that there's no quiet way to resolve this.
Attack (on S1): 26 Damage: 8
Attack (on S1 if it's alive, on S4 if S1 is dead): 17 Damage: 18

Echo will try to take care of the lizard on Tel.
Attack: 25 Damage: 14

Attack: 18 Damage: 4
All FOUR attacks hit. But the lizards do not fall, though S1 does look worse for wear.
DEX save: 2
